Gerald Woltring
Gerald Benjamin (Jerry) Woltring III died June 11, 2003 at the age of 38.
He was a native of Tacoma, Wash., and a resident of Citrus Heights and the Sacramento area for 25 years.
Mr. Woltring's hobbies included fishing and baseball.
He is survived by his daughters, Morgan and Reagan Woltring of Citrus Heights; his father, Gerald Woltring Jr. and wife Delinda of Elk Grove; his mother, Mary Ann Moreno and husband Robert of Sacramento; his sister Terrie Golden and grandmother Ruth Millar, also of Sacramento; and his grandmother Helen Olsen of North Highlands.
Funeral services were held June 16 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Citrus Heights. Inurnment was at Sylvan Cemetery, also in Citrus Heights.
Remembrances may be made to the LDS Church/Rusch Park Ward Fast Offering Fund, 7324 Tartanilla Circle, Citrus Heights, CA 95621.
Arrangments were by Harry A. Nauman & Son.

Robert Koetitz
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 26 for Robert Alvin (Bob) Koetitz, rancher, author and ranch real estate broker. Mr. Koetitz, 83, died June 20, 2003.
He was born Aug. 1, 1919 in Modesto where he grew up and, according to Mr. Koetitz himself, "barely" graduated from Modesto High School.
During World War II he served as a junior engineer with the U.S. Merchant Marines on tankers carrying fuel to the bombers. After the war he settled in Sacramento and went to work for Luppen & Hawley Inc., managing the plumbing department.
At the height of his career Mr. Koetitz gave it all up, first buying a ranch in the Lodi area and then changing careers to become a ranch real estate broker. About 33 years ago he purchased a ranch in Wilton, later settling on smaller acreage in Elk Grove.
He never regretted his career change and subsequently wrote a book, Rewarding Changes as to your Lifestyle, Livelihood and Location.
Mr. Koetitz was preceded in death by his son, James.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Esther; his brother Fred Koetitz of Logan, Utah; his sisters, Winifred Hudson of Buellton and Jeanette Talkington of Red Cloud, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is today (Wednesday) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elk Grove Funeral Home, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road.
Thursday's services begin at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Elk Grove District Cemetery.

Kaye Sutherland
Memorial services will take place Thursday, June 26 for Kaye Sutherland of Elk Grove who died suddenly June 21, 2003 at the age of 60.
Mrs. Sutherland was a waitress at Vince's Ristorante in Elk Grove and "a favorite with her regular customers," said her daughter, Donna. She was also a member of a dart league and enjoyed the game on Sunday afternoons at Murphy's Saloon. Cribbage was another favorite game as well.
Mrs. Sutherland was born in  Oklahoma and grew up in Huntington Beach. She moved to Elk Grove five years ago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Col. Kenneth Dawson and Ila Lee Adelman.
Mrs. Sutherland is survived by her children, David Peterson of Fresno, Donna Heggi and husband Dan of Elk Grove, DeeDee Jimenez and husband Don of Clovis and Darren Peterson and wife Kim of Antelope; and her grandchildren, Morgan, Dalton, Breanna, Timothy, Damon and Michael.
She was the stepdaughter of Averill Dawson of  Texas and David Adelman of Santa Barbara, and the sister of Michael (Skip) Dawson of  Texas.
She is also survived by friends Rose, Nyla, Sam, Rita and Brenda.
Thursday's services will begin at 3 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Interment is private.

Kenneth Tinker
Kenneth J. (Ken) Tinker, a resident of Elk Grove for 35 years, died suddenly July 25, 2003 at the age of 74.
Mr. Tinker's career spanned 42 years in the railroad business, starting with servicing steam locomotives for Northern Pacific.
Following telegrapher's school he joined Western Pacific and became an agent at their Pleasanton and Niles stations. He continued his education in traffic management through correspondence courses and attended UC Extension in San Francisco, taking specialized auditing courses.
In 1956 he was promoted to traveling auditor, often auditing the California Zephyr passenger train. In 1968 he transferred back to management at Western Pacific in Sacramento and a few years later became general manager of the Central California Traction Railroad that ran freight between Stockton and Sacramento.
He made many improvements on the CCT before retiring in 1985.
Mr. Tinker was born Oct. 4, 1928 in Superior, Wisc. to Glen Tinker Sr. and Rachel Levens Carroll.
He grew up there, sailing on ore boats on the Great Lakes as a teenager.
In 1945 he joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Iowa and USS Saratoga.
He was at Bikini Atoll in 1946 for Joint Task Force One atomic bomb tests "Abel" and "Baker," after which he was sent to radio school in San Diego.
This started a love of California and, following his marriage to Nancy Blank in 1951, he and his wife moved to the Golden State in 1953. Elk Grove became home in 1968.
Mr. Tinker was a genealogist for his family, tracing his ancestors back to 1620 and the Mayflower. He published a book, "The Ancestors and Descendants of Kenneth J. Tinker in America 1620-1966."
He was a 35-year member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. He was also a Mason, and a member of Provident-Three Pillars Masonic Lodge 609 and Elk Grove Masonic Lodge 173, York Rite, Scottish Rite and Shriners. VFW Post 2073 also numbered him among its members.
Mr. Tinker loved to travel, said his wife, whether by RV, train, airplane or cruise ship.
The couple recently returned from a two-week cruise in Tahiti.
He enjoyed cooking and was fondly called by the family "Our Gourmet Cook."
Mr. Tinker was preceded in death by his brother Glen Tinker Jr., sister-in-law Vivian Rockafellow Tinker and niece Linda Tinker Welter.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Nancy J. Tinker; his children, Elizabeth Rae Gage and husband Paul of Flower Mound,  Texas, Nancy Jenkins and husband Robert, and Jay Tinker and wife Dorene all of Elk Grove; and his grandchildren, Jennifer Gage Imburgia and husband Anthony of Chicago, Paul Gage and wife Susan of Bedford,  Texas, Heather Sareeram and Kenneth Jenkins of Elk Grove; and Loren, Jayna and Ronnie Tinker also of Elk Grove.
Mr. Tinker is also survived by his sister-in-law Linda Blank McShane of Sacramento; brothers-in-law Richard Blank and wife Margie of Vienna, Wash., Ronald Blank and wife Cherie of Spokane, Gerald Blank and wife Jeri of Lodi and Bruce Blank and wife Joyce of Phoenix; his nephews, Greg Tinker and wife Wynn and daughters Kelly and Sara of Rice Lake, Wisc. and Joel Welter of Minnesota; and his niece Karen Tinker Orleskie and husband Jim, daughter Amy and son Adam of Superior.
Private services were held July 31 with Pastor Richard Eddy of St. Peter's Lutheran Church officiating. Remembrances may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 8701 Elk Grove-Florin Rd., Elk Grove, CA 95624; or Shriners' Children's Hospital of Northern California, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.
Arrangements were by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.

Estella Brenner
A celebration of the life of Estella (Stella) Verdell Braun Brenner will take place Saturday, Aug. 16. Mrs. Brenner, a 42-year resident of Elk Grove, died July 24, 2003 at the age of 67.
She was born Oct. 5, 1935 in Ashley, N.D., where she grew up. In 1956 she married Larry Brenner, and the couple lived in Germany for a brief time while he was in the service.
They moved to Elk Grove in 1961, and Mrs. Brenner worked as a bookkeeper for Cal Worthington Chevrolet for many years.
"Her true joys in life were her family, friends and the ocean," said her family.
Mrs. Brenner is survived by her sons, Dennis and Mark both of Elk Grove; her granddaughters, Nicole and Jennifer of Sacramento, and Patrisha, Michelle and Robyn of Elk Grove; and five great-granddaughters.
She was the sister of Janice Braun and Carol Rhoades of Bismarck, N.D.
The Aug. 16 celebration begins at 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 9240 Survey Road in Elk Grove. It is a potluck and guests are asked to bring side dishes.

Roger Phillips
Memorial services will take place Saturday, Aug. 9 for Roger A. Phillips who died Aug. 4, 2003 at the age of 62. Mr. Phillips was a native of Iowa who had lived in Shingle Springs for the past 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharon of Shingle Springs; his father William Phillips of Elk Grove; and his siblings, Sandra Kohaya, Mary Griess, Bill, Ron, Jerry and Bob Phillips.
He was the uncle of Sheila, Gary, Mike, Patrick, Kathy and Cindy.
Saturday's services will begin at 1 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Interment is private.
