Donald Meyer
Donald M. Meyer, 47, of Elk Grove, died April 11, 2003, in a car accident.
Mr. Meyer was born Jan. 26, 1956 in Alberta, Canada. In 1964 he moved to California, where he graduated from El Camino High School and California State University, Sacramento, with a degree in accounting. He also attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs,  Colo.
An avid bowler and sportsman, he also enjoyed a good cigar. He owned numerous business ventures, his last as a certified public accountant.
He is survived by his mother, Emily Meyer; brother and sister-in-law Ted and Gail Meyer; sister and brother-in-law Gloria and Dan Johnson; three nephews: Brent, Brad and Brian Meyer; his fiancée, Dori Swart; numerous relatives in Canada and Germany; and friends and neighbors in Elk Grove.
He was pre-deceased by his father, Warner Meyer, who passed away in March 2002.
Friends are welcome to a visitation from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 and to services at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Mr. Meyer's name to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ethel Rutherford
Ethel M. Rutherford, a 35-year resident of Georgetown, died Nov. 26, 2003, at the age of 89.
Mrs. Rutherford was born Ethel Margaret Scott on Jan. 30, 1914 in Mound Valley, Kan. As a child, her family moved often due to her father's job as a section foreman on the railroad. They eventually came to California where she met and married Jacob "Jack" Rutherford of St. Helena on Oct. 9, 1934.
Mrs. Rutherford was a homemaker and also worked for a time at McClellan Air Force Base in radio repair. She and her husband liked to travel, garden and read.
Her husband survives her as do her daughter, Theresa Pulcifer and husband Charles of Wilton, and her grandchildren, Kathleen "Kitty" Olschowka of Hollister, Donna Broyles and husband Richard of Sacramento and Charles Pulcifer Jr. of Galt.
Mrs. Rutherford was the great-grandmother of Bethany Olschowka, Nathan Olschowka and wife Heather and Jason Olschowka and wife Andrea all of Hollister, Emma Pulcifer-Sahebekhtiari, Hannah and Wesley Broyles all of Sacramento. Great-great-grandchildren include Justin, Jacklyn, Alora, Gabrielle and David Olschowka all of Hollister.
No services were held.

Leticia Alves
Leticia "Letty" Alves, a 31-year resident of this area, died Nov. 25, 2003 in Elk Grove.
Mrs. Alves was born in 1939 to Gorgonia and David Alger in Manila, Philippines, and came to this country during the 1960s.
A former dietician, she was a care home administrator from 1986 until retiring in 1997. She served as president of the Legion of Mary, was a member of Couples for Christ/Handmaids of the Lord and active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church of Elk Grove. She was also a past president of the Sacramento Rizal Lions Club and a Sacramento Kings fan.
Mrs. Alves is survived by her children, Anna, Michelle and Lisa; her son-in-law Armando "Jun" Buenaventura; and her grandchildren, Christian, Jonathan and Brendan.
She was the sister of Flor Fernando, Emily Fernandez, Berting and Fronnie Alger, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Services took place Dec. 2 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church followed by interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.

Marcelline Germany
A Mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday, Dec. 6 for Marcelline G. Germany who died Nov. 29, 2003 in Sacramento.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Ezra B. Germany in 1997.
Mrs. Germany is survived by her children, Gary Germany and wife Antonia and Jeff Germany and wife Kathy; and her grandchildren, Kelly and Garrett Germany.
Visitation is today (Friday) from noon to 8 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. at South East Lawn Mortuary, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove. Saturday's Mass begins at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road.

Thomas Aus
Thomas H. Aus, a resident of Wilton, died Feb. 29, 2004 in an auto-bicycle accident.
He was born in Sacramento on June 24, 1956.
Mr. Aus was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Aus and his parents, Bertha and Noel Aus.
He is survived by his daughter, Angel Marie Katz and husband Jeff and granddaughter Mariah all of Fortuna; his son, Bronson Aus of Elk Grove; his brothers, Stephen Aus and wife Vicky and Luke Spoler all of Wilton; and his sister, Donna Aus of Placerville.
Private services were held March 7 at Edwards Crossing, Yuba City.

Harold (Hal) Knight
Harold (Hal) B. Knight, born July 2, 1924, passed away April 2 of this year.
A well known Elk Grove resident, Harold grew up in Stockton. After high school gradation he served in Germany during World War II, helping to build pontoon bridges across strategic rivers, with the Army Corp of Engineers.
After the War, Hal went to work for the California state Department of Water Resources.
In his over 47 years with DWP, his contributions helped form the basis of the California Water Plan, which lead to the construction of the State Water Project.
Hal is survived by his wife Shirley Pickens-Knight, sons Jim Knight of Tahoe City, Mark, Dave and Jim Pickens, three grandchildren, Jordan, Austin and Jamie, brother and sister-in law, Johnny and Thelma Knight of Santa Rosa, CA.
Hal shared his love of the outdoors with his family and enjoyed hiking the John Muir Trail, camping and backpacking in the mountains. He will be remembered and missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly for his sense of humor and enjoyment of life.
Donations in Hal's name can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arlyne Bassett
Arlyne Bassett, a resident of Elk Grove and then Galt since 1982, died Sept.6, 2004, her 65th wedding anniversary, at the age of 84. She would have celebrated her 85th birthday on Sept. 10.
In both towns she was known for her enjoyment of the game of bridge. She also possessed a great sense of history and belonged to both the Elk Grove and Galt Historical societies, as well as the Elk Grove Newcomers. In Galt she volunteered with CAPS (Citizens Assisting in Police Services) and served on an advisory committee for transportation for seniors.
Mrs. Bassett was born in Wisconsin and grew up in Madison where she met her future husband, Jerry Bassett at high school graduation in 1936. The two attended neighboring schools. They were married in 1939, and lived in Wisconsin until World War II when he became a civilian flight instructor and they were stationed throughout the United States, including New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and  Texas.
In 1959 the family moved to Contra Costa County in California where Mr. Bassett managed radio station KKIS and started Channel 42. His career was spent in radio and television, and the family lived in southern California, Las Vegas,  Texas and Stone Mountain, Ga. before retiring in Elk Grove. He died in 1991 after which Mrs. Bassett moved to Galt.
During the pre-retirement years Mrs. Bassett became involved in property management, including a stint in the Hollywood area where she met several movie stars, "all with lots of problems," she said.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robin Charles.
Mrs. Bassett is survived by her children, Jerry Bassett and wife Andrea of Montgomery, Ala., and Lynn Holly of Plattsburg, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Anna Holly Bassett of Portland, Ore., Christian Jerry Bassett of Sacramento and Tracy Guzzio and husband Tom of New York; and a great-grandchild, Mirren Ena Guzzio.
No services were held at her request. Remembrances may be made to Sutter Hospice, 2800 L St., Suite 400, Sacramento, CA 95816.
Arrangements were by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.

Harold Cox
Harold Douglas (Pete) Cox of Elk Grove died Sept. 5, 2004 at the age of 74. He was born July 9, 1930 and lived in Stockton until 1982.
Mr. Cox was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked in the oil and gas industry and was a retired real estate broker.
He is survived by his wife Billie Cox of Elk Grove; his children, Theresa Cox, Ed Cox and wife Joan and Kellie Grischott and husband Fred; and his grandchildren, Lacey Cox-Boyd, Freddie and Nathan Grischott and Eddie Cox, all of Stockton.
Memorial services will take place at a later date. Arrangements are by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.
