Elizabeth Worcester
Elizabeth Miriam (Beth) Worcester, a former longtime resident of Elk Grove, died July 15, 2002, in Bellingham, Wash.
A memorial service for Mrs. Worcester will take place Thursday at 2 p.m. at Harry A. Nauman & Son Funeral Home, 4041 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento.
Mrs. Worcester was born Oct. 30, 1917, in Los Angeles to Edith and Uriah Davies. She grew up and graduated from high school there and worked in various jobs including sales, purchasing, modeling and later being a homemaker. Hobbies were traveling, club activities, shopping for a bargain and spending time with friends.
She was a resident of Elk Grove for 40 years.
Mrs. Worcester was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Dr. William W. Worcester, and her son, Gar Warren Worcester.
She is survived by her children, Jan Knutson and husband Gene of Bellingham and Douglas Worcester and wife Donna of Sacramento; and her grandchildren, Ken Falen of Seattle, Karen Falen of Palm Springs and Lindsey and Kevin Worcester of Sacramento.
Remembrances may be made to Shriners Hospital, 911 W. 5th Ave., Spokane, WA 99204; Hospice of Whatcom County, 600 Birchwood Ave., Bellingham, WA 98225; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Worcester was buried at Sierra Hills Memorial Park, Sacramento. Arrangements were by Jones/Moles Funeral Home, Bellingham.
Marv Putnam
Marv Putnam, founder of Putnam’s Rainbow Fountains in Sacramento, died Dec. 24, 2002, at the age of 90.
Mr. Putnam was born in Breckenridge, Minn., May 27, 1912, and went to work at age 11. He joined the U.S. Navy at age 16, and completed high school when he was 21.
He then took over Lodi Tent & Awning in 1935, calling himself a “canvas engineer.” He worked for fairs and expositions in this country and Canada, and was the tent maker for the Sacramento Music Circus from the beginning.
In 1971 he established Putnam’s Rainbow Fountains and designed many different sizes of fountains and displays for state fairs, including the water fountains at the California State Fair on Stockton Boulevard and later at Cal Expo.
Mr. Putnam was a member of the Woodbridge Masons, Lodi Eastern Star and Ben Ali Shriners. He was a member of the Ben Ali Shrine Band for more than 60 years.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Laura; his daughters, Marlene Figone of Manteca, Nancy Lammle of Lodi, Barbara Putnam of Plymouth and Toni Linde of Sutter Creek; his stepson, Claude Weldin of Salem, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services took place Sunday at South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove. Remembrances may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95827.
Ernest Gray
Memorial services were held Sunday for Ernest J. Gray, who died Dec. 24, 2002, at the age of 59.
Mr. Gray was born and raised in Berkeley and had lived in Elk Grove the past four years. He was a member of the Gideons.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline Gray of Elk Grove; his children, Jeffrey Gray, Michele Gray-Samuel, Amanda, Jacob, Aaron and Judee Gray; his grandchildren, William and Jonathan Gray and Alexander Samuel; and his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Lu.
Services took place in Vintage Park Community Church. Remembrances may be made to the church, 8220 Elk Grove-Florin Road, Sacramento, CA 95829.
Arrangements were by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.
Douglas Parry
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2003 for Douglas Fred Parry, a longtime resident of Wilton, who died April 17, 2003 at his daughter's home in Yuba City.
Mr. Parry was born Feb. 25, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army, and was a longtime employee of Proctor and Gamble.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Loree Parry; sons Brad Parry and wife Philomena of Jacksonville, Fla. and Gregory Parry of Sonoma; daughters Cynthia Parry of Wilton and Melody Bell and husband Steve of Yuba City; and grandchildren Stephanie, Greg and Shane Bell and Amanda Parry.
Mr. Parry was the brother of Shirley Pawlowski of Centerville, Utah, Joan Olson of West Valley, Utah and Chris Saville of Magna, Utah.
Bishop Jeff Hogge will officiate at services which begin at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Elk Grove, 2nd Ward, to which Mr. Parry belonged. Interment is in South East Lawn Memorial Park, Elk Grove.

Jean Berner
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19 for Jean Ann Berner who died July 14, 2003 after a long struggle with cancer. Mrs. Berner was born May 29, 1942 and was a resident of Elk Grove for 37 years.
She was one of the founders of the Recycling Adult Workshop which evolved into the Elk Grove Adult Community Training Center. EGACT provides a place for continuing education of the developmentally disabled, and Mrs. Berner was the director of the program for many years.
She and her ex-husband opened the Pizza Barn in 1974 and Mrs. Berner owned and operated it for 25 years.
She is survived by her sons, Cecil and David; her grandchildren, Avanlea, P.J. and Manton; her mother, Thelma; and her twin sister, Joan.
Saturday's services will begin at 11 a.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Interment in Elk Grove District Cemetery
will be private.

Val Newbold
Val Jackman Newbold of Elk Grove died July 12, 2003 after a brief struggle with cancer. He was 46.
Mr. Newbold was born July 20, 1956 in Salt Lake City. After serving in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the military police, he graduated from the University of the Pacific Pharmacy School in Stockton. For the past several years he worked at pharmacies throughout the valley as a relief pharmacist for Cameron and Company.
He was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and hobbies included fishing, boating and shooting with his bow.
Mr. Newbold was preceded in death by his infant son, Scot Val Newbold.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lisa Ellen Voigt; his children, Kristene Wheeler and husband Jeramie, Timothy Newbold and wife Cozann, Stephanie Almendariz and husband Cameron, Daniel and Emily Newbold; his parents, Dale and Frances Newbold; and grandchildren, Brianna Wheeler, Beverly Harris, Sharlet and Valerie Newbold and Makiah Almendariz.
Mr. Newbold was the brother of Dale Newbold and wife Kathy, Chris Newbold and wife Melanie, d'Artagnan Newbold and wife Kay, Troy Newbold and wife Ashleee, Brenda Newbold, Lauralyne Chord and husband Chris and Nancy Twomey and husband Patrick.
Services took place Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Seasons Drive. Arrangements were by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.
Gordon Froehlich
Memorial services will take place today (Friday) for Gordon Froehlich, a lifelong resident of Elk Grove, who died Aug. 18, 2003, after a battle with cancer.
Mr. Froehlich was born April 26, 1940. He attended Franklin Elementary School and graduated from Elk Grove High School, and then worked as a driver and transportation supervisor at Crystal Cream and Butter Co. in Sacramento, retiring after 43 years of service.
He was a golfer, trap shooter and deer hunter, and was also known as the "Franklin Flash."
Mr. Froehlich was preceded in death by his mother Lovina, and his brother Lyle.
He is survived by his wife Marie; his daughters, Jill Froehlich, Heidi Arellano and Kristy Froehlich, all of Elk Grove; and Heidi Bates, of Santa Barbara; his father John Froehlich, of Elk Grove; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Froehlich was the brother of Marianne Eldridge, Linda Allen and Geraldine Prater, all of Elk Grove.
Today's services begin at 10 a.m. at Point Pleasant United Methodist Church, 3329 Point Pleasant Road. Remembrances may be made to the Lymphoma Society, the American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, Suite 115, Sacramento, CA 95815 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Marianne Eldridge
Memorial services will take place Saturday, June 19 for Marianne Emma Eldridge of Elk Grove who died June 13, 2004 at the age of 61.
Mrs. Eldridge was a lifelong resident of the Point Pleasant area, graduating from Elk Grove High School in 1961. She worked for the Elk Grove Unified School District for 28 years as secretary, first for William Daylor High School, then 18 years at James Rutter Middle School.
She was an active member of Point Pleasant United Methodist Church, singing in the choir and serving as church historian. And every year since 1991, she and her husband vacationed on Catalina Island.
"She was a seamstress, a beautician, she could do anything," said her son. "Family meant everything to her."
Mrs. Eldridge was preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Froehlich.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ernest Eldridge of Point Pleasant; her children, John Eldridge and wife Sheri of Herald and Lori Spivey and husband Chad of Point Pleasant; her father, John Froehlich of Point Pleasant; and her grandchildren, Ashley, Kelsey, Emma and Haskell.
She was the sister of Linda Allen of Point Pleasant and Geraldine Prater of Elk Grove.
Saturday's services will begin at 2 p.m. in Point Pleasant United Methodist Church with Pastor Neal Harrell officiating. Private interment will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery.
