Rev. Merle Brenner
A memorial service will take place Sunday for Rev. Merle E. Brenner, retired pastor of the First Baptist Church of Elk Grove, who died March 10, 2003, succumbing to cancer.
Rev. Brenner was born in Woodbine, Kan. on April 5, 1921, and was raised in a farming family. He graduated from Ottawa University in eastern Kansas and earned a Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, where he also met his wife, Miriam.
Over the next 45 years, the couple served four churches in South Dakota, Kansas and California. His pastorate at the Elk Grove church was from 1966 to 1986.
His family said that throughout his life, Rev. Brenner's hallmark was that he knew and loved the Lord and sought to encourage his children and those whom he served to know and follow him.
Rev. Brenner is survived by his wife of 51 years, Miriam of Elk Grove; his children, Carl Brenner and wife Barby of Farmington, N.M., Barbara Buder and husband Alan of Kensington, David Brenner and wife Madeleine of Seattle and Marilyn Brenner of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.
He was the brother of Gladys Seibel and husband Roy of Minnesota and Kenneth Brenner and wife Irene of Kansas.
Services will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Elk Grove, 8939 East Stockton Blvd. Remembrances may be made to the Brenner Memorial Fund at the church to be disbursed equally between the North American Baptist missionary work in Cameroon, West Africa, and the building projects of the First Baptist churches of Elk Grove and Lodi.
Kyle Glantz
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 5 for Kyle Ryan Glantz, who died April 27, 2003 at the age of 12.
Kyle was a lifelong resident of the Sacramento/Elk Grove area. He attended Bradshaw Christian School for kindergarten and first grade, then transferred to Pleasant Grove Elementary School, where he was in the sixth grade at the time of his death.
"He was a good student, a caring, giving kid who liked to help others," said his mother.
Kyle loved sports and the outdoors. He had played baseball since age 6, as catcher, first baseman, pitcher and batter. He also played soccer for two seasons and was on two All Star teams.
Kyle also liked to ride his dirt bike and his quad. He drove the fishing boat for his dad, and enjoyed camping.
He is survived by his parents, Derek and Erin Glantz; his brother, Trevor Michael, and sister, Lauren Adele, all of Sacramento; his grandparents, Orlan and Carol Glantz of Elk Grove and Michael and Carole Beals of Sacramento; and his great-grandparents, Orlan and Helen Glantz of Elk Grove and Iris Mello of Sacramento.
Kyle was the nephew of Dennis and Michaele Devlin, Scott and Myra Beals, Kristen Beals, Chadd Beals and Dane Glantz. He is also survived by numerous cousins.
Pastor Rich Eddy will officiate at the services which begin at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 8701 Elk Grove-Florin Road. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Visitation is Saturday, May 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 4 from 3 to 8 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd.

Lloyd Seiler
Lloyd Owen Seiler, a former resident of Elk Grove, died April 28, 2003 in Stockton at the age of 88.
Mr. Seiler was born in Chico, where he grew up, graduating from Chico State University. He was a past superintendent for the Whisman Elementary School District in Mountain View before moving to Elk Grove in 1954, where he was a sixth grade teacher in the Sacramento Unified School District. His children are all graduates of Elk Grove High School.
Mr. Seiler retired in 1971 and moved to Stockton in 1974. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and camping.
His first wife, Florence, Seiler was an elementary school teacher for the Elk Grove Unified School District. She preceded him in death, as did his second wife, Marian Haworth Seiler, and his son, David Seiler.
Mr. Seiler is survived by his children, Sharon Allen of Spreckels, Jim Seiler of Fortuna and Tom Seiler of Orem, Utah; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of Ivan Seiler of Chico and Berniece Canavan of Carmichael.
A service of remembrance will take place Saturday, May 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace-Martin Funeral Home, 520 North Sutter Street in Stockton.

Lovell Bradford
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 29 for Lovell O. Bradford of Elk Grove who died July 18, 2003 at the age of 81.
Mr. Bradford was born in Alabama and grew up in Baltimore, Md. He served his country in three wars: World War II, Korea and Vietnam, receiving a Bronze Star among other awards. He was with the Marine Corps at first, then joined the Army, retiring as a Sergeant 1st Class.
Through much of his service he was a medical assistant, and following retirement he worked as an LVN for Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco.
The family moved to Elk Grove 18 years ago and Mr. Bradford became active in Capital Christian Center, serving as an usher among other duties.
"He was a very patriotic American," his wife, Dorothy, said. "He really regretted he wasn't young enough to go to Iraq." She also commented that among family and friends he was famous for his barbecue sauce.
Mr. Bradford is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Elk Grove; his children, Carolyn Bradford of San Francisco, Linda Williams of Monterey and Lovell Williams of Baltimore; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Sunday, July 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd.
Tuesday's services begin at 2 p.m. in Capital Christian Center, 9470 Micron Ave., Sacramento. Interment will be Wednesday, July 30 at 11 a.m. in San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
Charles Herder
Charles R. Herder of Elk Grove was killed in a construction accident July 17, 2003. He was born July 31, 1972.
Mr. Herder attended Stockton schools and graduated from Tokay High School, Lodi. He then attended Delta College and California State University, Sacramento.
He resided in Stockton for 20 years before moving to Elk Grove.
Mr. Herder is survived by his wife Brandi; his children, Zachery and Maci; his parents, Mark and Genny Herder and Charles R. Stoffel; and many other relatives.
Services took place July 22 at De Young Shoreline Chapel, Stockton. Interment was in Cherokee Memorial Cemetery, Lodi.
Milton Hibbs
Milton M. (Pete) Hibbs died at his home in Elk Grove Nov. 14, 2003, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 65.
Mr. Hibbs was born July 16, 1938, in Orofino, Idaho. He spent over 40 years in commercial construction, working his way from carpenter to management. During that time he oversaw the building of schools, hospitals and high-rises.
His most recent job was with the California State Parks, managing historical renovation and construction.
Mr. Hibbs enjoyed water skiing and bull riding, but his greatest job was fishing, according to his family. He fished lakes, rivers and the Pacific Ocean from Alaska to Mexico.
Mr. Hibbs is survived by his wife, Patti of Elk Grove; his son, James of Sacramento; his brother, Glen and wife Gail of Kamiah, Idaho; his brother-in-law, Lowell Rugg of Winchester, Idaho; and four nieces.
No services are planned. His ashes will be scattered over the Pacific Ocean outside the Golden Gate Bridge.
Arrangements are by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.
Geraldine Young
Memorial services will be Saturday, April 3 for Geraldine Annette Blumhardt Young who died March 13, 2004 in St. George, Utah following a battle with cancer. She was 78.
Mrs. Young was born July 16, 1925 in Bowdle, S.D., and married Jonathan Dee Young on Feb. 1, 1943 in Murray, Utah. He preceded her in death in June 2000.
The family lived in Lodi, Sacramento, Montreal, Livermore, St. George and Elk Grove.
Mrs. Young's career was in real estate. Hobbies included quilting, camping with her husband, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Susan Simmons of Sacramento, Wendie Waldman of Silver City, N.M., Phil Young of Murietta, Ga. and Eric Young of St. George; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Young was the sister of Erna, Martha and Evelyn.
Saturday's services will begin at 1 p.m. in South East Lawn Mortuary, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove.
