Donald "Don" Robert Cantaloupi
Donald "Don" Robert Cantaloupi, 66, of Stockton, entered into rest, June 6, 2003, after a sudden illness. He was born in Stockton on November 30, 1936, the son of Amiel Steven and Maida Cantaloupi.
Don grew up in Stockton, where he attended local schools. He was a graduate of Stockton High School, Class of 1955. After high school, he continued his studies at Delta College, where he attained an Associate in Arts degree.
In 1957, at the age of 21, Don began his career as a firefighter with the Stockton Fire Department, fulfilling his dream of a profession in public service. On February 12, 1960, Don married the love of his life, Jackie Errecalde, in Carson City, Nevada. Together, they made their home in Stockton, and where blessed with four children. Aside from his devotion to his beloved family, fire fighting was his passion through life. He quickly ascended through the ranks, gaining the respect of subordinates, peers and superiors, and attained various administrative positions, including engineer, Fire Captain, and ultimately becoming Fire Battallion Chief, a position he held until his retirement in 1991, after 34 years of service.
Don thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, doing things he liked most. He was devoted family man who enjoyed dedicating quality time to his wife, children and grandchildren. He also cherished the company of old-time friends and neighbors. Don loved to spend time in his garden, restoring automobiles, and racing Nascar cars and Enduro motorcycles.
Don is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jackie Cantaloupi of Stockton; two daughters, Vicki Schmierer and Toni Jump, both of Lodi; two sons; Donald "Donnie" Cantaloupi of Stockton and Cory Cantaloupi of West Hollywood; five granbchildren, Jeni and Melissa Schmierer, and Broc, Blake and Luke Jump, all of Lodi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amiel and Maida Cantaloupi, and his sister, Arlene Caminata, who entered into rest on February 2001.
Friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Life Service, at 1:00 P.M., on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. Deacon Donald Bo of St. Anne's Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will be private.
Helen Elizabeth Mason
Helen Elizabeth Mason, 92, of Lodi, entered into rest June 8, 2003, at a local convalescent hospital, following a long illness.
She was born Helen Elizabeth Beckman, in Lodi, on August 2, 1910, the daughter of Albert J. Beckman and Edna Jory. Helen was raised in Lodi and attended local schools. She graduated from Stockton High School, Class of 1928. After high school, Helen pursued studies in nursing at the St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1931. Following her graduation, she successfully passed the state nursing board examination and received her license as a registered nurse, fulfilling her dream of a career in health care.
On November 16, 1932, Helen married Willard T. "Mike" Mason in Reno Nevada. The young couple decided to make their home in Lodi. Their marriage was blessed with one son and one daughter, who became their joy in life. Helen worked as a registered nurse for about 35 years, including one year of service, in 1952, at Lodi Memorial Hospital. She was a Past President of Omega Nu Sorority in 1942-43, and a long time member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Helen was known for her kindness and desire to help others. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Mason is survived by her husband of 70 years, Willard T. "Mike" Mason of Lodi; her son, Willard T. "Ted" Mason, Jr. of Granite Bay, California; her daughter, Marilyn Massoni of Rio Vista; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to attend a Graveside Committal Service at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Lodi Memorial Cemetery, 5150 E. Pine Street in Lodi, followed by the interment. At her request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Emil P. Schmierer
EMIL P. SCHMIERER, 79 of Lodi, entered into rest on June 16, 2003 at a local convalescent hospital. He was born on November 23, 1923 in Tappen, North Dakota, the son of Christian Schmierer and Christina Orth.
As a youngster, Emil grew up working on the family farm. In 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he learned culinary arts and served as a cook until 1947. On October 14, 1951, he married Edith Heidinger in Jud, North Dakota. The couple made their home in Lodi. They were blessed with the birth of their son, Jimmy.
Emil was an exceptionally skilled machinist. He worked at Super Mold Co. in Lodi for over 25 years and other companies after that for about 11 years. He was known for his dedication and determination, and his resolve to be the best in whatever he did. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished the company of family and friends. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and travelling. Emil was a long-time member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Lodi, the SIRS (Sons in Retirement) Lodi Area Branch 18, the Dakota Club and the Lodi Moose Lodge (LOTM).
On May 26, 1994, his wife Edith preceded him in death. Months after, he sought the companionship of a mutual family friend, Bertha Frey, who remained his faithful companion until his death. Together, they traveled and enjoyed life to its fullest.
Emil is survived by his son, Jimmy Schmierer and his wife, Billie of Lodi; two grandsons, Andrew and Kevin Schmierer, both of Lodi; 3 brothers, Dave Schmierer and his wife Hazel of Lodi, Ed Schmierer and his wife Lena of Sheridan, Wyoming; and Gottlieb Schmierer and his wife Martha of Lemon, South Dakota; 2 sisters, Pauline Heidinger of Lodi, and Amelia Wageman and her husband Gottlieb of Spokane, Washington. He is also survived by his beloved companion of almost nine years, Mrs. Bertha Frey of Lodi and her children: Margie and Tom Holmes, Judy and Bruce Agnew, Carla and Steve Cassinelli, Kurby Frey and Bernice and Jerry Edwards.
Emil was preceded in death by his wife, Edith I. Schmierer; 4 brothers, Christ Schmierer, Art Schmierer, Joe Schmierer and John Kassman; and 6 sisters, Christine Enzinmger, Mary Hust, Alita Aipperspach, Susan Aipperspach, Anna Blumhagen and Tillie Konrad.
Friends are invited to call for visitations from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 18th at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 19th at Lodi Funeral Home, followed by a committal graveside service with Military Honors at Lodi Memorial Cemetery, 5150 E. Robert A. McMillen
Robert "Bob" McMillen, 55, of Lodi entered into rest on June 11, 2003 after a sudden illness. He was born July 9, 1947 in Stockton, CA, the son of Richard and Lucille McMillen.
Bob grew up in Salinas, CA, where he attended local schools. He was graduate of Salinas High School, Class of 1965. As a teen, he was active in Boy Scouts leadership Programs and worked at various Scout camps. He achieved the level of Eagle Scout. He worked a few summers with the summers with the City of Salinas Recreation Parks Department, in their recreation and aquatics programs. After graduation from Hartnell College in Salinas, he attended Sacramento State College (now Sacramento State University), from which he graduated in February 1970.
Bob obtained the #1 National Park Internship and went to work for Genesse County Michigan Parks and Recreation for 1 ½ years. He returned to California and worked a short time for San Bernardino County and City Parks and Recreation departments respectively. He then moved to Sacramento County where he worked for the Parks and Recreation department.
In 1974, Bob moved his family to Salinas where he worked for the City of Salinas Parks and Recreation department as the Recreation Superintendent. Bob enjoyed volunteering at Day Camps for mentally disabled children, and at various church and school functions for his children.
In January 1991, Bob accepted the position of Park Services Administrator with the San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation department. He and his family moved to Lodi, CA. Bob enjoyed volunteering his time to the organization of the annual fishing derbies held in the Lodi area, and attending bible studies through St. Anne's Catholic Church.
Bob was promoted in 1997 to Assistant Director of the Facilities Management Department, where he continued to work until March 31, 2003. Bob retired on April 1st of 2003, with 33 years of continued public service.
Bob is survived by his wife of 19 years, Priscilla McMillen of Lodi; his two daughters, Heather Sigala (Vince) of Salinas, and Bonnie McMillen of Sacramento; his stem daughter, Amy Dratz of San Francisco, his grandson Christian Sigala, his mother Lucille McMillen, and his brother Bill McMillen all of Salinas. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard McMillen of Salinas.
Friends are invited to a visitation and rosary on Wednesday, June 18th, at 7:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont in Lodi, and A Mass in Celebration of Life on Thursday, June 19th at 7:00 pm at
St. Anne's Catholic Church, 215 West Walnut Street in Lodi, CA. Both services will be officiated by Reverend Father Jesu Velichore.
To honor Bob's memory, contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of San Joaquin County or the St. Labre's Indian School Educational Association in Ashland, Montana, 59004.
Marcia Lynn Martin
Marcia Lynn Martin, 39, of Lodi, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2003, in French Camp, after a brief illness. Marcia was born on September 1, 1963 in Modesto, California, the daughter of Floyd and Mattie Martin. She came to the Lodi area 32 years ago when she was seven years old.
Marcia was homemaker who enjoyed living her life to its fullest. She was a kind and compassionate person who cherished the company of family and friends. A couple of years ago, she found peace with the Lord and started her life anew. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and caring for her Border Collie "Sarah". Most of all, she enjoyed caring for her family and others in need, and worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ at her beloved church, Harvest Worship Center in Lodi. She always had a amicable disposition and brought happiness to all who new her. She was great as a church greeter; she had no difficulty brightening others with her beautiful and most sincere smile.
Marcia is survived by her three children; Therese, Jerry and Tara Frinzelle all of Sacramento; her mother, Mattie L. Martin of Lodi; five sisters, Susie Turner of Woodbridge, Junie Bullington of Westmoorland, Tennessee, Janice Deslippe of Antioch, CA, and Patty Pigg of Lodi; and three brothers; Floyd and Jeff Martin of Lodi, and Matt Martin of Woodbridge. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Martin in 1969, her sister Debbie Martin in 1954, and her brother Allen Martin in 9161.

Ruth Evelyn Kaylor
Ruth Evelyn Kaylor, 91, entered into rest on June 18, 2003, at a Stockton nursing care facility. A native of Lebanon, Missouri, Ruth was born on July 9, 1911, the daughter of John Johnson and Daisy Burns Johnson.
Ruth grew up in Springfield, Missouri, where she attended local schools. On December 16, 1933, Ruth married Paul Kaylor, a civil engineer, at Grant Avenue Baptist Church in Springfield, where the couple made their home. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Kaye.
Mrs. Kaylor worked as a retail sales clerk for J.C. Penney's Department Store for about 20 years. She was a remarkable person, well known for her many talents, her kindness to others and her devotion to her church, where she served as pianist for the Junior Department (ages 9-12) at Grant Avenue Baptist Church.
In 1963, her husband accepted a position as a consulting engineer for the firm of Michael Baker Consulting Engineering in Jackson, Mississippi. This position required extensive travel throughout the region, and Ruth accompanied her husband everywhere he traveled
In 1975, Mr. Kaylor passed away, and Ruth chose to live near her daughter and son-in-law in Abilene, Texas. In 1986, she came to El Dorado Hills, California with her family, until 1991 when they moved to Lodi.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Kaye Reed, and her son-in-law, Rev. Michael G. Reed of Lodi; two grandchildren, Paula Kaye Davis and her husband John of Galt, and Michael Evan Reed and his wife Annette of Autryville, North Carolina; two nieces, Frances Spotswood of Springfield, MO and Carolyn Wiseman of Warner Robins, GA; two nephews, Paul Johnson of Chicago and Bill Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada; a sister-in-law, Clarice Johnson of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Kaylor, in 1975.

George E. Ferrero, Sr.
George E. Ferrero, Sr., 72, died June 24, 2003, in his Lodi home. He was born on April 2, 1931, in Lodi, where he lived all his life.
George attended Lodi schools, graduating from Lodi High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force in 1951-52, as a member of the Air Force Band. He attended San Joaquin Delta College in 1953-55. He was a partner in the family-owned business, Four Sons Grape Growers, from 1952-1958, where he partnered with his father and brothers. He also owned George's Music Center in Lodi from 1958 to 1964.
George began his real estate career in 1964, working from Katzakian & Schaffer Realtors. As a real estate broker George co-founded Aladdin Real Estate in 1969, Ferrero and Heath Realtors in 1976, and FCF Real Estate in 1987. He owned Ferrero Construction from 1976 to 1988, and was the developer of Sun West units 1, 2 and 3 in Lodi, River Meadows, Del Rio and Windwood sub-divisions in Woodbridge. He was also an antique dealer from many years, traveling to Europe 22 times with his wife for shopping trips and touring.
Always active in the community, George was a member of the Lodi Board of Realtors (serving as President in 1973); Lodi Young Farmers (President, 1953-1958); Lodi Junior Chamber of Commerce (President, 1960-1966); March of Dimes (Chairman, 1962-1963) Lodi Rotary Club (Past President); Assistant Cub Master from 1965-66; Boosters of Boys Sports; Lodi German Band; Stockton Pyramid Sciots Band; Little League Baseball Head Coach from 1961-1974; United Crusade; Woodbridge Golf and Country Club; and San Joaquin Parks and Recreation Commission (1976-1985). George was honored as Lodi's Outstanding Young Man in 1967.
George married Rosemarie Pladsen (his childhood sweetheart since she was 11 years old) on June 22, 1952,in Lodi. George loved his family and was always there to help them. He is survived by Rosemarie, his wife of 51 years; daughter Loreen Bishop, her husband Wesley, and two children Kyle and Caitlin; son, George Ferrero, Jr.; son, James Ferrero, and his son Jordan; son, Kenneth Ferrero, and his children, Shannon, Anthony and Carter; and daughter, Andrea Orosco, her husband Philip, and their children, Jennifer and Christopher. George is also survived by his brothers, Johnny Ferrero, Jr., and his wife Jen; Frank Ferrero; Fred Ferrero and his wife Elene; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his daughter, Lorissa Ann "Lori" in 1959, and his parents, John and Catherine Ferrero.
Graveside Committal Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 30, 2003 at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29, 2003 at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi.
