Grace Alcorn
Grace Smith Alcorn, 88, of Lodi, California, died June 24, 2003. Mrs. Alcorn was born in Helena, Ohio on January 23, 1915 to Benjamin Smith and Maude (Garner) Smith.
Grace attended local schools in Ohio and was a graduate of Risingsun High School, Class of 1933. After high school, Grace completed business college courses at Davis Business College in Toledo, Ohio.
On June 17, 1939, Grace married James L. Alcorn. They made their home in Ohio and had two daughters, Judith and Dolores. Grace said: "My most important job is being a mother." She was known for her devotion to her family and kindness to others. Besides her family life, Grace led a successful career as a secretary for over 20 years.
She enjoyed history and enjoyed traveling with her husband doing genealogy work. She was delighted in keeping her house, having friends over to the house for barbecues, and visiting family in Ohio and Michigan.
She loved watching baseball, playing cards, listening to her brother's honky-tonk piano music, Louis Armstrong and jazz. She enjoyed collecting antiques and beautiful famous paintings out of Life Magazine.
She danced the Charleston in the 1920's and enjoyed wearing the garb that was in fashion always. Her goal was to stay under 120 pounds to fit into fashionable clothes whether they were expensive or not.
Grace was quite the American patriot, and watched CNN news avidly. She remembered her grandfather who fought in the Civil War and told stories about him. She was very proud of her great-grandfather, who started preaching when he was 17 in the county of Lincolnshire in England. As a devout Christian, Grace had a deep admiration for Dr. Robert Schuller's teaching (from California's Crystal Cathedral) and loved his books.
Grace is survived by her two daughters, Dolores Mayfield of Lodi, California and Judith Fisher of Holly, Michigan; four grandchildren, Kimberly Fisher of Pontiac, Michigan, Dr. Louisa DeBolt of Berea, Kentucky, Christopher Mayfield of Lodi and Dotti Mayfield Bunn of Oceanside, California; two great-grandchildren, Annabelle and James Bunn, also of Oceanside, CA; and one brother, Virgil Smith of Vaughnsville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James L. Alcorn in 1987; three brothers, Paul, Herbert and Richard Smith; and her sister, Lucille Smith Holcomb.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, June 27, 2003 at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 1055 S. Lower Sacramento Road in Lodi. Rev. Father Richard Matters, officiating. Visitations will be from 8:00 AM to 8PM on Wednesday and Thursday, June 25th and 26th; and from 8 AM to 11:30 AM on Friday, June 27 at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi.

Stella Corralez
Stella Corralez, 45, of Lodi, passed away on June 28, 2003, at Lodi Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 23, 1958, in French Camp. She was raised in Lodi where attended schools.
Mrs. Corralez was homemaker who enjoyed reading books, working on crossword puzzles, and spending time with kids. She loved life as much as she loved people; and all who knew her, loved her, too.
Stella is survived by her husband, David H. Corralez of Lodi; her children, David Corralez, Jr. of Lodi and Rebecca Lorraine Corralez of Sacramento; parents, Roman and Maria Nava of Mexico; four brothers, Jose Nava of Lodi, Jesse Nava of Oakland, Roman Nava, Jr. of Lodi, and Peter Nava of Lodi; and four sisters, Margarita Borjon of Woodbridge, Mary Sanchez of Lodi, Natalie Nino of Galt, and Martha Magaña of Lodi. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Nina Marie Corralez (1987), and brother, David "Malue" Nava (2001).
Friends are invited to visit at Lodi Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 8 PM on Tuesday, July 1st, 2003, where the a Rosary will be recited at 7 PM .A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 215 W. Walnut Avenue in Lodi. Rev. Father Jairo Ramirez, officiating. Committal graveside services following at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi.

Gina Franklin
Funeral services will take place today (Friday), Dec. 10 for Gina Lee Franklin, a 24-year resident of Elk Grove, who died Dec. 4, 2004.
Mrs. Franklin was born Nov. 10, 1967 in Sacramento. She was an office manager who enjoyed gardening, drawing and writing poetry.
"Give her a tool box and she could fix just about anything," said her daughter Kristina. "She was always kind-hearted, constantly thinking of others and could make you laugh 'til you cried. A wonderful mother, loving daughter and the best friend a person could ask for."
Mrs. Franklin is survived by her daughters, Kristina, Ashley and Kasandra; and her mother and stepfather, Nancy and William Woodworker all of Elk Grove.
She was the sister of Kari Cook and husband Brian and Lori Cramer and husband Kenny, also of Elk Grove.
Today's services begin at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road. Interment is in South East Lawn Memorial Park, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove.
Ian Fountain
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ian Fountain will take place Saturday, Dec. 11. Ian, 16, died Nov. 30, 2004 following a 2 1/2-year battle with T-Cell Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL).
Ian and identical twin Ryan were born Feb. 17, 1988 to Steve and Trish Fountain and for the first six years of their lives lived in Sacramento where they attended preschool at Florin United Methodist Church and kindergarten at Isabelle Jackson Elementary School.
The family moved to Elk Grove and Ian was a student first at Elk Grove Elementary and then Joseph Kerr Middle School. At Kerr he joined both the concert and jazz bands, with drums as his favorite instrument, and also participated on the track team. Kerr also brought him his best friend Shane Bowman and first girlfriend Casey.
The twins joined the marching band in Elk Grove High School and shared an English class during their freshman year.
In January 2002 Ian was diagnosed with ALL and after severe chemotherapy treatments, the disease went into remission. Make-A-Wish Foundation presented him with a drum set in October of that year.
The leukemia returned in January, and a bone marrow transplant was performed in June of this year at Stanford with older brother Sean as the donor. Unfortunately the leukemia again returned.
"In spite of this, Ian used every second he could," said his aunt, Phyllis Donovan. He went to Fort Bragg with his family, threw a Halloween party for his friends, took a helicopter ride, flew an airplane, went fishing, took a trip to Susanville to visit his friend Shane, learned how to drive a car and got a dachshund dog named Ben. Ian taught us all a lot about courage and acceptance and embracing life."
Ian is survived by his parents, Steve and Trish Fountain and brothers Sean and Ryan all of Elk Grove; grandmothers Barbara Fountain also of Elk Grove and Edra Shire of Sacramento; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Saturday's services will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Florin United Methodist Church, 7560 Florin Road at Palmer House Drive.
Harold Schneider
Harold Randall Schneider Sr. died Nov. 19, 2004 after a short battle with brain cancer. The native of California was born Nov. 22, 1920.
Mr. Schneider served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, after which he worked as a citrus rancher and professional land surveyor before his retirement.
On March 1, 1944 he married his wife Dorothy in Ketchikan, Alaska. She survives him as do his children, MaryLynn Schneider of Elk Grove, Randy Schneider and wife Judy of Merced, Dennis Schneider and wife Debbie of Porterville, Jon Schneider of Philadelphia and "adopted" daughter Jane Morey of Elk Grove. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were four siblings and one granddaughter.
Services were held in the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery

Tillie Erickson
Memorial services for Tillie Erickson who died Nov. 27, 2004, are scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005. Mrs. Erickson, 85, died in her sleep after being diagnosed with terminal cancer a month earlier.
She was born Tillie Vietz Jan. 19, 1919 in McClusky, N.D. where she grew up, married, worked on a farm and ran a restaurant before moving to California in 1960. In California she was a sales person in clothing shops before marrying Donald Erickson in 1972. He died suddenly a year later.
In 1974 she met Nicholas Weisgarber and they were together until his death in 1991.
Mrs. Erickson was a resident of Carmichael for 32 years and at the time of her death was a resident of Campus Commons Senior Living.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Wilbur Buckmiller and Donald Erickson and longtime friend Nicholas Weisgarber. Also preceding her in death were brothers Emil and Herbert Vietz and sister Alma Barker.
Mrs. Erickson is survived by her son Donald Buckmiller and wife Irene; three grandchildren, Kurt, Melissa and Todd; and two great-grandsons all of North Dakota.
She was the sister of Ruth Fode of Elk Grove and Edwin Vietz, Lillian Krueger, Ann Buckmiller and Doris Opp. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, including Carlotta McDonald of Cambria and Rita Reis of Elk Grove with whom she enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner just a day before her death. Also present were grand-nephews Trevor Reis and Landon Eldredge and family friends.

John DaCosta
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, May 6 for John Da Costa, a resident of Elk Grove for 18 years. Mr. Da Costa died May 1, 2005 at the age of 27.
He was a native of Fontana, a 1996 graduate of Elk Grove High School and a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Da Costa is survived by his children, Alisia and Dante Da Costa; parents, Joao and Maria Da Costa; siblings Melissa Dinis, Ricky and Connie Da Costa; and grandparents Maria De Melo Silveira and Maria Brasil.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, May 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. The recitation of the rosary is Thursday, May 5 at 7 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road.
Friday’s Mass begins at 11 a.m. also at St. Joseph’s Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
