While in Oakland he joined the Canan Baptist Church, where he served as trustee and became involved in community work feeding the needy.
Upon his retirement the family moved to Elk Grove in 1988.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruby Johnson of Elk Grove; his children, Carnetta Spruill and husband George and Cynthia Bennett and husband Joseph of Sacramento, Rene McDaniel and husband Craig of Pinole and Willie Johnson III of Elk Grove; his grandchildren, Christina, Keisha, LaMar and Dimitrua; and his great-grandchildren, Jamesha and Janae.
Mr. Johnson was the brother of Patricia Ann Binns of Georgia and LeRoy Dunn of Elk Grove.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Private interment is in Elk Grove District Cemetery.
Solomon Kammerer
Solomon Fred Kammerer, a native and lifelong resident of Franklin, died July 19, 2003 at the age of 94.
Mr. Kammerer's parents came to the area from the Dakotas and purchased a wheat farm and grape vineyard on Bruceville Road. He was the first child born at the farm, Nov. 28, 1908.
He attended Franklin Elementary School and then worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and various farms in this area. While working at the Carl Johnson farm, he met Martha Rosina Adam who was cook, housekeeper and nurse for the family. The couple married March 24, 1934 and rented a farm on the corner of Elk Grove Boulevard and Waterman Road.
The Great Depression was in full swing, and Mr. Kammerer was asked to return to the family farm which he did in 1936, and remained there ever since.
In 1938 the Kammerers converted the farm into a dairy, and this was successful enough to cause the business to be named 'Dairy of the Year' in 1969, 1970 and 1971 by Crystal Milk Co.
Mr. Kammerer was a board member with the U.S. Department of Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation for 22 years. He also served for many years on the board of trustees for Franklin Elementary School, and was a 30-year member of the church council at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, as well as a member of the Share Club.
He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Kammerer is survived by his wife, Martha of Elk Grove; his children, Don Kammerer and friend Katherine Kinney, Ruth Cohen and husband Harold, Rod Kammerer and Loren Kammerer and wife Anna all of Elk Grove, Patricia Rasmussen of Sacramento and Tracey Eidsath and husband Carl of Minnesota; and one brother, Ed Kammerer of Elk Grove.
Funeral services were held July 24 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Remembrances may be made to the church's memorial fund at 8701 Elk Grove-Florin Rd., Elk Grove, CA 95624.
Arrangements were by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.
Aubrey Hoskinson
Memorial services will take place on Friday, Aug. 8 for Aubrey Lynn Hoskinson who died July 24, 2003 following a long battle with cancer. She was 19.
Miss Hoskinson was born in Sacramento April 24, 1984 and graduated from Sheldon High School in 2002, near the top of her class. She was a cheerleader, senior homecoming princess and involved in many extracurricular activities and honors programs.
With a goal of pursuing a career in medicine, Miss Hoskinson was a student at Sacramento City College when diagnosed.
She is survived by her mother, Carol DeCosta; her father, Steve Hoskinson; her sisters, Lydia Hoskinson and Haley Hatfield; her grandparents, Lynn and Albert DeCosta; her stepfather, Tom Hatfield; her stepmother, Maita Hoskinson; her stepsiblings, Megan, Melissa, Jessica, Brooke and Chris and Gary and Beverly Hatfield and Walt and Susan Lyons.
Others in the family include uncles Anthony and Michael DeCosta and Robert Bale; aunts Dorie and Ann DeCosta; cousin Joshua Maher; niece Brandy and nephew Calvin DeCosta.
Friday's services begin at 6 p.m. at St. Philomene Church on El Camino Avenue in Sacramento. Remembrances may be made to UC Davis Pediatric Hospice Care.
Michelle Mann
Michelle Catherine Mann, a native of Sacramento who lived in the area for most of her life, died Aug. 22, 2003.
Ms. Mann was born April 18, 1974, and had resided in Elk Grove for about the last three years. She was a student at Cosumnes River College.
She is survived by her sons, DeAndre, Duane, Branun and Trevell; her parents, Catherine Morgan of Elk Grove and David Mann of Sacramento; and her grandparents, LaVaughn Bishop of Elk Grove, Frances Johns of Sacramento and Jasper Mann of Kansas City.
Ms. Mann was the sister of Albert, Berry, Damon, Kevin, Anthony, David, Richard and Brian.
Memorial services took place Aug. 29. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Sacramento.

Jacob Schultz Jr.
Jacob Russell Schultz Jr., son of Jacob and Louise Schultz of Point Pleasant, died Jan. 2, 2004, in Glendale following a long battle with cancer. He was 52.
Mr. Schultz, who was known as Russell, was born Dec. 9, 1951, and grew up in Point Pleasant, the area his family helped settle in the 1860s. He attended Franklin Elementary School where he was active in the Cub Scouts, and St. Patrick's School in Sacramento.
He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1970, received his associate's degree from Sacramento City College and attended classes at California State University, Sacramento before joining the U.S. Navy in 1972.
He stayed in the Navy until 1983 where he was stationed in Japan, a country he became very fond of, working in intelligence. While there he also taught English at the University of Tokyo.
Upon his return to this country, Mr. Schultz went to work for the federal government, first in Chicago and then in Washington, D.C. He then returned to California where he was appointed Deputy Secretary of State and worked in the Los Angeles office with Secretary of State March Fong Eu until illness forced his early retirement.
"He enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. His outrageous sense of humor and his infectious laughter will forever be in our hearts," said his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Schultz is survived by his sister, Anita Peters and husband Manny and brother, William Schultz and wife Joan all of Courtland; nieces and nephews William, Michael, David and Emily Schultz and Vincent and Jacob Peters also of Courtland, Ruth Schultz and friend Rachel of Davis, Tony Peters of the U.S. Navy, Joseph Peters and wife Jeanine of Henderson, Nev.; great-nieces and nephew Joey, Katie and Jessie Peters of Henderson; partner Greg Martinez of Glendale; friends Terry Zook also of Glendale, Joe Johnson of Sacramento, Joe Hogan of Hisaghi, Japan; and godmother Grace Zgraggen of Elk Grove.
Mr. Schultz was the grandson of Jacob W. and Ruth Schmidt Schultz of Point Pleasant and Louis and Ellen Harris Arcuri of Sacramento.
Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will take place locally at a future date.

Ann Hagen
Ann E. (Annie) Hagen, a longtime resident of Elk Grove, died Jan. 7, 2004 from heart failure. She was 75.
Mrs. Hagen was born in West Barnstable, Mass., on March 29, 1929. She was a homemaker, and had lived in Elk Grove about 45 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, William Hagen in 1985; her son, Stephen Hagen in 2003; brothers Henry, Reino, Tauno, Wilho and Edward; and sisters Ebba, Elvi and Nellie.
Mrs. Hagen is survived by her sons, Patrick and Jeff Hagen of Elk Grove; her daughter, Laura DeJesus of Valley Springs; and her sisters, Irene Henderickson of Fair Oaks and Viola Johnson of Orangevale.
She was the grandmother of Hali, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services are private. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.
Ruth Flatt
Ruth C. Flatt, a longtime resident of Elk Grove, died March 28, 2004 at the age of 77.
Mrs. Flatt was born in Coal County, Oklahoma where she grew up before moving to Elk Grove in 1952.
She and her husband owned and operated Gene's Upholstery in town and she was also a nurse at the Elk Grove Convalescent Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gene Flatt, in 1967.
Mrs. Flatt is survived by her children, Claude A. Flatt of Newcastle, Ronney W. Flatt of Sacramento, Carl G. Flatt and Kathy J. Lippert of Elk Grove, and Kelvin L. Flatt of Granite Bay; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of Billie Simmons of Catheys Valley, Vivian Radanovich of Oakhurst and Homer Nicholas of Verona, Mo.
She is also survived by longtime companion Reg Peart of Elk Grove.
Memorial services took place Sunday, April 4 at South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.
