Herbert Tschoepe
Funeral services will be held today for Herbert P. Tschoepe, an 85-year resident of Elk Grove who died April 24, 2005 at the age of 97.
Mr. Tschoepe was born in Germany and spent part of his childhood there until 1920, after World War I, when his aunt and uncle, Lena and Peter Jacobsen sent for him. He came to the Point Pleasant area of Elk Grove and has lived there ever since.
On Feb. 17, 1935 he and Pauline Froehlich were married in the Point Pleasant church where he has been a member for 72 years, holding just about every church office there was. His wife said he really enjoyed working on the grounds of the cemetery next to the church.
Mr. Tschoepe worked for the Sacramento Unified School District, and he and his wife were both active with the Salvation Army.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers and one sister.
Mr. Tschoepe is survived by his wife of 70 years, Pauline Tschoepe of Point Pleasant; daughter Loretta Stormont and husband Theodore of Sacramento; and grandchildren Christopher and Annette Stormont.
Today’s services will begin at 3 p.m. in Point Pleasant United Methodist Church, 3329 Point Pleasant Road, Elk Grove, CA 95758. Interment will follow in Point Pleasant Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to the church building fund. Arrangements are by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.

Galen Whitney
Galen Millard Whitney, a longtime Hood rancher and founding member of Stone Lake Environmental District, died June 1, 2005 after a battle with cancer.
In keeping with the district’s goal of researching and battling flooding in the southern Sacramento County area, Mr. Whitney was also a member of the Water Hyacinth Control Group and the Florin Resource Conservation District.
Other community activities included 50-plus years with the Franklin Masonic Lodge, 40-plus years with the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department, 20-plus years with the Rotary Club of Walnut Grove, five years with the midtown Sacramento Kiwanis Club, and founder and second president of the Sacramento County Taxpayers League.
Mr. Whitney was born in Lodi Feb. 25, 1929 to Ruth Boyd and Harry Whitney. He grew up in the Thornton/Lockeford/Acampo/Lodi area, and after high school moved to the family ranch in Hood where he lived for the rest of his life.
In March 1949 he married Maryn Wilson, whom he described as his soulmate and best friend.
Besides managing the family farming and ranching business, Mr. Whitney also worked on a date canning production project for Food Machinery Cooperation in Oman, and on an irrigation project on the Euphrates River in Syria.
He and Maryn enjoyed traveling, in particular the many trips they took on the Delta Queen on the Mississippi River, a craft he had ridden as a child when it ran between Sacramento and San Francisco.
“(My father) met few people that he didn’t like and his warm grin and gentle teasing assured multitudes that they had found their way into his circle,” his daughter said. “He also had a love of and an intuitive way with animals.”
Mr. Whitney is survived by his wife of 56 years Maryn Whitney of Hood; children Barbara Kent and husband Kevin of Mill Valley, Gail King of Grass Valley and Brian Whitney of Hood; grandchildren Erika Kent Bradbury and husband Bill, Jason Kent, Mark King and wife Jessie, and Brad and Luke Whitney.
He was the great-grandfather of Darren and Lindsey Bradbury and  Taylor King.
Services are private. Remembrances may be made to the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department, Courtland, CA 95615, or Sutter Hospice, 2800 L St., Suite 400, Sacramento, CA 95816.

Ronald Green
Ronald P. (Ron) Green died in Elk Grove April 23, 2005 following a long illness. He was 62.
Mr. Green was born on March 11, 1943 in Salinas, and served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966. In 1978 he received his master’s degree in mathematics from California Polytechnic Institute in San Luis Obispo and worked for several years as a software engineer.
He preferred teaching, and was a mathematics professor at College of the Desert in Joshua Tree and most recently at Cerro Coso Community College, Lake Isabella.
Mr. Green was an avid outdoorsman and photographer, and combined these two loves to produce images of the California desert.
He was preceded in death by his father Gothie Howard Green, and his son Gothie Jason Green.
Mr. Green is survived by his mother Iva L. Green of Elk Grove; daughters Sandra Evon of Citrus Heights, Destiny N. Green of Uxbridge, Mass. and Marisa D. Green of Boston; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held April 27 in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel. Interment was in South East Lawn Memorial Park, Elk Grove.

Bill Carter
No services were held at his request for Bill J. Carter of Galt who died May 23, 2005 at the age of 74.
Mr. Carter was born in  Oklahoma and had lived in Galt for 35 years. He retired in 1985 after 20 years as a house mover.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years Geraldine (Gerri) Carter; his son Jeffrey Duane Carter and his grandchildren Ashley Elizabeth and Alicia Joleen Carter.
Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, 2007 O Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
Arrangements were by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.

John Farmer
John Peter Farmer of Elk Grove died March 30, 2006 at the age of 88, just a few days shy of his 89th birthday.
Mr. Farmer was born April 8, 1917 in Rockford, Ill., to John and Marie Farmer. He grew up there, and served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Farmer was a teacher by profession and taught at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa for 22 years. The family resided in Costa Mesa for 34 years before moving to Elk Grove four-and-a-half years ago.
In Elk Grove he was a member of the Senior Center of Elk Grove, and the Sacramento Philatelic Society.
Mr. Farmer was preceded in death by his brother Paul Farmer, and sister Madeline Brenneman.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Farmer of Elk Grove; daughters Mary Williams of Mission Viejo, Jean Davis and husband Jerry of Elk Grove and Beth Farmer Greene and husband Andy of Draper, Utah; sons John Farmer of Yucaipa and Mark Farmer of Chico; grandchildren Soren, Colin and Karen Williams, Ashley, Erika, Trevor, Jake, Hanah and Brady Greene and Austin and Nathaniel Davis; and great-grandchild Davy Renee Williams.
Mr. Farmer donated his body to the U.C. Davis Medical School. A memorial mass and celebration of his life will take place in August.

James Carbine
Funeral services will take place today (Wednesday) for James Edward Carbine IV of Elk Grove who died April 21, 2006 at the age of 21.
Mr. Carbine was a native of Wisconsin who had lived in the Sacramento/Elk Grove area for 16 years.
He is survived by his parents Julie Carbine of Elk Grove and James Carbine III and wife Andrea of New Jersey; sister Mary Carbine of Elk Grove; grandparents William and Mary Neal of Michigan and Carolyn Carbine of Illinois; and special friend Rachel Flores.
Today’s services begin at 1 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Interment is private.

Patrick Gonigan
Patrick Michael Gonigan, a resident of Sacramento County for 25 years and a disabled Vietnam veteran, died Aug. 18, 2003, at the age of 46.
He was preceded in death by his father, Luis; his sister, Susie; and children Denise and Garrett.
Mr. Gonigan is survived by his mother, Viviane Gonigan; his brother, Kenneth Gonigan; his fiancee, Sherry Stephenson; his children, Nicole, Patrick Jr., Sara, Tyler and Curtis; and grandchild, Chase.
Services were held Monday at the First Baptist Church of Elk Grove.

Robert Younger
Funeral services will take place Thursday, Aug. 28, for Robert Lewis Younger, a 25-year resident of Elk Grove who died Aug. 23, 2003, at the age of 60.
Mr. Younger was born in New York but came to California as a child, growing up in Manteca. He graduated from Manteca High School.
Mr. Younger was very active with Boy Scout Troop No. 290 in Elk Grove for more than 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, and was a truck driver for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sharon Younger of Elk Grove; his children, Trevis Younger and wife Shelley and Trent Younger and wife Julie all of Elk Grove, and Troy Younger of Las Vegas; and his grandchildren, Samantha, Alexander, Haley and Blake.
Mr. Younger was the son of Alvena Younger of Manteca and the brother of Donald Younger of Santa Paula, David Younger of Sausalito and Connie Markowitz of Modesto.
Visitation is today (Wednesday) from 5 to 8 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd.
Thursday's services begin at 10 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8697 Elk Grove Blvd. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
