Mamie Kemp
Funeral services will take place today (Wednesday) for Mamie Ann Kemp, a 40-year resident of Elk Grove who died Nov. 20, 2005 at the age of 95.
Mrs. Kemp was born Jan. 6, 1910 in Oaklahoma. She was a life member of the Senior Center of Elk Grove, and assisted in fundraising for that organization. Hobbies included playing cards with her many friends, and writing poetry.
She retired from AeroJet General.
Mrs. Kemp was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Edward Kemp Sr., son Edward Kemp Jr., and four brothers.
She is survived by sons Bruce Kemp and wife Linda of Placerville and Richard Kemp and wife Sherry of Elk Grove; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of Clara Slaven of Tuscon, Ariz.
Today’s services will begin at noon at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane in Fair Oaks.
John Bozich
John Bozich, a 67-year resident of the Sacramento/Elk Grove area, died June 3, 2006 at the age of 81.
Mr. Bozich was born on June 18, 1925 in Jerome, Ariz. and grew up there, learning to farm on his godparents’ ranch. In 1939 his mother moved him and his sisters to this area, and he graduated from Elk Grove Union High School in 1944.
He then entered the plywood business for many years before establishing Capitol Plywood Inc.
Mr. Bozich was involved in many charities, including Project R.I.D.E. in Elk Grove, the therapeutic horseback riding program for children and adults with special needs. He donated wood to various high schools in the area as well as Boy Scouts of America, and set up a Bozich family scholarship fund at Christian Brothers High School.
His many interests included ranching, 4-H, polka dancing and playing his accordian.
Mr. Bozich is survived by his wife of 55 years, Regina; children Michael and wife Bonnie, Cheryl and David; and granddaughters Nicole and Danielle.
He was the brother of Helen, Mary Ann and Jenny, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn E. Gwinn
Evelyn E. Gwinn (80) passed away unexpectedly on May 24, 2006 at Lodi Memorial Hospital.
Evelyn was a longtime resident of Galt and Elk Grove, moving to the area in 1976 to open Old Town Liquor with her husband, Glenn Gwinn.
A homemaker, Evelyn will always be remembered for her kind heart and her love of cooking, which she displayed by feeding anyone and everyone who stepped through her door. Evelyn was a very supportive wife and mother, and her children were her life.
Surviving her are her three sons, Daniel Meyers of Galt, Rodney (Tiffany) Gwinn of Salem, Ore., and Randall Gwinn of Elk Grove; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years. She will be deeply missed by her family and those close to her.

Mary Lee Murray
Mary Lee Murray (87) died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at her home in Herald. She was born July 22, 1918 to Otis and Carrie (Cook) Johnson in Callahan County, Texas.
Mary worked as a waitress for 30 years and retired from the Restaurant Workers Union #2 in San Francisco. She lived many years in Sonoma and made her home for the past 10 years in Herald. Mary enjoyed playing dominoes, board games of all kinds, cards, and going to the casino.
Surviving are her sister, Bonnie Mulherin of Herald; niece, Patricia Mulherin of Herald; nephew, Bob Mulherin and family of Herald; and several nieces and nephews in Texas.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Rozell Gary; brothers, Russell Johnson, Marshall Johnson and Bruce Johnson.
Friends are invited to attend a funeral service Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in Jackson. Interment will be in Sunset View Cemetery
in Jackson. A reception will follow in Herald.

Shirley Ann Price
Shirley Ann Price (68) of Galt died June 2, 2006 in a local hospital of acute leukemia. She was born Jan. 30, 1938 in Roscoe, Texas, moving to California as a child and growing up in the Bay Area.
Shirley worked as a cocktail waitress, where she met her husband, Bill Price. They were married in 1971 and settled in Oxnard. She attended the Assembly of God church in Galt, rededicated her life to the Lord in 2001 and was baptized in 2003. She loved to golf, bowl and fish. At one time, she held the state record for the largest halibut caught in California.
Surviving her are three sons, Jon, Josh and Jeremy; mother-in-law, Dorothy Price of Galt; sisters, Gloria (Pete) Johnson of Bakersfield, Glenda May Luce of Redding, Sharon Andersen of Provo, Utah; and brother, Stephen Barrett of Ceres.
Her beloved husband, William Leroy Price, preceded her in death.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, June 6, at Galt Cemetery, arranged by Ben Salas Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the leukemia and lymphoma society or the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Lois Toquero
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 16 for Lois Marion Toquero, a native of Elk Grove who died June 9, 2006 at the age of 91.
Mrs. Toquero was well-known for her china and porcelain art and was a member of the Camellia City Porcelain Artists, the Camellia City China Painters, the International Porcelain Artists and the California China Painting Teachers Association.
She was born Sept. 16, 1914, eldest child of Vernon and Laura Thompson Coons. During her adult years she lived in Modesto and Los Angeles, returning to Elk Grove in 1973.
Besides the art organizations, Mrs. Toquero was a member of Liberty Parlor No. 213, Native Daughters of the Golden West where she served as president, and the Elk Grove Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years Daniel W. Toquero, and brothers Vernon R. and Jack N. Coons.
Mrs. Toquero is survived by her children James Greathouse and wife Vivian of Medford, Ore. and Richard Greathouse and wife Carole of Roseburg, Ore.; and stepchildren Robert Toquero of San Francisco and Janis Pane of Budapest, Hungary.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 15 after 4 p.m. at Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd., with the Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. Friday’s Mass begins at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road. Interment will follow in Elk Grove District Cemetery.
Frank Veninga
Frank Veninga, a longtime resident of Elk Grove, died Nov. 26, 2005 at the age of 96. He was born May 31, 1909 in Germany.
For 52 years the family residence was on a dairy farm on Elk Grove Boulevard, across from the present location of Valley Hi Country Club. In addition to operating his farm, Mr. Veninga was employed in construction for many years.
He served several terms as a director on the board of the Franklin Elementary School District, and was a 47-year member of Gideons International.
He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Elk Grove for 77 years, and served that church in several capacities, including deacon, moderator, trustee and Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Veninga was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Mabel, and his daughter Virginia.
He is survived by sons Frank L. and Donald J. Veninga; grandchildren Kristin Tollenaar, Stephen Veninga, Jennifer Veninga, Catherine Veninga, Andrea Clark and Byron Clark; and great-grandchildren Katharine Tollenaar, Conner Tollenaar, Drew Tollenaar, Chase Tollenaar, Christian Veninga, Kaylee Veninga, Eli Thomas and Sylvie Thomas.
He was the brother of Sini Rauser.
Services took place Nov. 30 at First Baptist Church with interment at South East Lawn Memorial Park. Remembrances may be made to The Gideons International, 550 Century Blvd., Nashville, TN 37214-0800.
Stephen Bishop
Stephen Douglas Bishop, a longtime resident of Elk Grove, died Nov. 14, 2005 after a long struggle with heart disease. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and had worked at McClellan Air Force Base for more than 25 years.
Mr. Bishop is survived by his wife Sherie; son Jason; daughter Jennifer; and brother Sid and his family.
No services were held.
