Larry Ring
Funeral services will take place today (Friday) for Larry Gordon Ring, a lifelong resident of the Sacramento area who died Dec. 4, 2005 at the age of 66.
Mr. Ring was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, two sons, Mark and Eric Ring and grandson Andrew.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Ring; children Ricky Ring and wife Carol, Vicki Bellrichard and husband Steve, David Ring and wife Cathy, Susan Brommer, Jamie Callies and husband Mark; daughter-in-law Melanie Ring; grandchildren Michele, Mary, Joseph, Corey, Kayla, Ryan, Brandon and Holly; and great-grandchild Kiersten.
Mr. Ring was the brother of James Ring and wife Virginia and Robert Ring and wife Evelyn.
Today’s services begin at 10 a.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd., followed by interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, P.O. Box 21-4477, Sacramento, CA 95821-0477.

Leland J. Spivia
Funeral services will take place today (Wednesday) for Leland J. Spivia, a native and lifelong resident of Wilton who died May 31, 2006 at the age of 84.
Mr. Spivia was born June 12, 1921 to Steve and Stella Spivia in Wilton where he grew up, stayed and raised his own family. He was employed by the Elk Grove Unified School District for 20 years.
He raised a variety of crops through the years, and his most recent venture was growing giant pumpkins which he showed at Elk Grove’s Harvest Festival. In retirement, he also enjoyed visiting the auction yards and reminiscing with friends.
Mr. Spivia was preceded in death by his sister Gladys Spiva, brother Leonard Spivia and son Dwight Spivia.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie; sons Howard, Wayne and Steven; daughter Diane; daughters-in-law Jackie and Chris; grandchildren Alicia, Jolene, Wayne, John and Weston; and great-grandchild Casha.
Today’s services will begin at 11 a.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Home, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. at the Ione Public Cemetery, followed by a celebration of his life at his home in Wilton about 3 p.m.

Mary Lee Murray
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8 for Mary Lee Murray who died June 1, 2006 at her home in Herald. She was 87.
Ms. Murray was born July 22, 1918 in Callahan County,  Texas to Otis and Carrie (Cook) Johnson, and worked as a waitress for 30 years, retiring from the Restaurant Workers Union No.2 in San Francisco. She lived for many years in Sonoma before moving to Herald 10 years ago.
Interests included playing dominoes, board games of all kinds, cards, and going to the movies.
Ms. Murray was preceded in death by her sister Rozell Gary and brothers Russell, Marshall and Bruce Johnson.
She is survived by her sister Bonnie Mulherin; niece Patricia Mulherin; nephew Bob Mulherin and family all of Herald; and several nieces and nephews in  Texas.
Thursday’s services begin at 1 p.m. at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in  Jackson followed by interment in Sunset View Cemetery, Jackson. A reception will be in Herald.
Remembrances may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin County, 2609 E. Hammon Lane, Stockton, CA 95210.

Mirla Carlos
Mirla Alcantara Carlos, a six-year resident of Elk Grove, died Sept. 23, 2003, at the age of 58. She was born in the Philippines.
Mrs. Carlos is survived by her husband of 17 years Bill Carlos and her daughter Anna Carlos, both of Elk Grove. She was the sister of Erlinda Gabriel of Pacifica, Elvira Garcia, Benjamin Alcantara and Luisito Lijauco all of the Philippines.
A Mass of Christian burial took place Sept. 26 in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church followed by interment in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.

Alyce Hawse
Alyce L. Hawse, a longtime resident of Hood, died Jan. 1, 2006 at the age of 81.
Mrs. Hawse was born Jan. 16, 1924 in San Jose, where she grew up. She moved to the Sacramento area in the late 1940s, and in 1965 married Edward Hawse. The couple settled in Hood.
Mrs. Hawse worked at both Libby Cannery and Ben Franklin Department Store in Sacramento. She was a member of the Churchill Downs congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“We will miss her big smile,” said her family.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Marilyn  Jones and brother Lyle Wagner.
Mrs. Hawse is survived by her husband Edward, a resident of Elk Grove Care & Rehabilitation Center; sister Catherine Hammersley of south Sacramento; brother Dale Wagner of Stockton; and several nieces and nephews.
Services took place Jan. 7 at Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witness in Elk Grove. Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Aid Society, 2641 Cottage Way, Suite 4, Sacramento, CA 95825.

Nick Kockinis
Nick George Kockinis, longtime resident of Elk Grove, passed on Sept. 27, 2003, after a long battle with cancer. He was 77.
Mr. Kockinis graduated from Sacramento High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving from 1944-46 as Yeoman 2nd Class in the 14th Naval District Legal Office in Pearl Harbor.
Upon his discharge he attended Sacramento City College and worked as an independent car dealer for many years. Following retirement from that career he took up real estate in Elk Grove, Sacramento and Lake Tahoe.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, reading, his family, and spending time at Lake Tahoe.
Mr. Kockinis was preceded in death by his brothers, Peter G. and Angelo G. Kockinis.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ethel; his children, Vicki McDermott and husband Mark and Denise Budmark and husband Jack of Elk Grove, and Eric Kockinis of Wilton; and his grandchildren, Chanel, Devin and Heather McDermott and Vincent and Adriana Budmark.
He was the brother of Bettie Athans of Danville, Va. and Chris G. Kockinis of Sacramento. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Oct. 2 at South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove. Remembrances may be made to the Cancer Research Institute, 681 Fifth Ave., New York, NY 10022-4209.

Teofilo Corpuz
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, Oct. 6 for Teofilo R. Corpuz, a 21-year resident of Elk Grove who died Sept. 28, 2003, at the age of 84.
Mr. Corpuz was born in the Philippines. During World War II he was a member of the USAFFE and survived the Bataan death march.
Following the war he worked for 25 years in the traffic control department, comparable to our California Highway Patrol.
In Elk Grove, Mr. Corpuz worked for several years for the Department of Fish and Game at the local fish hatchery. He was active in St. Joseph's Catholic Church here, serving as eucharistic minister.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Ignacia Corpuz of Elk Grove and his children, Rosalinda Delacruz and husband Pete, and Jesus Corpuz and wife Gina all of Elk Grove, Avelina Alarcio and husband Eng, Teofilo Corpuz Jr. and wife Nancy and Emelda Gonzalo and husband Tomas all of the Philippines, and Lolita de la Cruz and husband Marcial of  Texas.
Mr. Corpuz is also survived by 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation begins Friday from noon to 8 p.m. and continues Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd.
Recitation of the rosary is Sunday at 6 p.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road, and Monday's Mass begins at 10 a.m. in the church. Interment will follow in Elk Grove District Cemetery.

Violet Ehrhardt
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 17 for Violet Elaine Ehrhardt, member of the pioneer Elk Grove Ehrhardt family, who died Jan. 3, 2006 in Santa Cruz at the age of 103.
She was one of the grandchildren of prominent early pioneers John and Caroline Ehrhardt who settled in the Elk Grove-Franklin area, and for whom John Ehrhardt Elementary School is named.
John Ehrhardt, at age 15, along with his father, drove 7,000 head of sheep herding them on foot from Missouri to California to seek their fortune. They arrived with about 300 sheep, sold them for gold, and invested in land which they farmed and mined. Ehrhardt Estates on Elk Grove Boulevard near Franklin Boulevard are situated on the home place, and Violet Ehrhardt’s parents’ original home is being restored, preserved and dedicated as a historic landmark in Elk Grove.
She was born Nov. 16, 1902 in Sacramento, the eldest child of William Gardner and Annie O’Neal Ferguson Ehrhardt. She attended Franklin Grammar School and Elk Grove High School, but did not graduate due to health problems.
On her 100th birthday she was awarded an honorary certificate of high school graduation from the Elk Grove Unified School District. She also received congratulatory letters from President and Mrs. George Bush, Gov. Gray Davis and NBC’s Willard Scott of the Today Show.
Ms. Ehrhardt lived and worked at the former Hale’s Department Store in San Francisco. She attended business school and then worked for the state of California as an IBM keypunch operator until retirement when she moved to Santa Cruz to be with her parents and brother Wilbur Earl Ehrhardt.
She was preceded in death by her brother and a sister, Dorothy Jane McCurdy. She is survived by her sister Mildred Blake of Sacramento and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
“Her legacy of love, family devotion and kindness to all is legendary,” said her family. “Her patience, independence, wit and sense of humor blessed all who knew her.”
Visitation is today, Friday at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga Street in Santa Cruz from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday’s services begin at 1 p.m. at East Lawn Cemetery on Folsom Boulevard in Sacramento.
