Geno Kammerer
Geno Kammerer, member of a pioneer Elk Grove family and lifelong resident of the area, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the age of 66.
He was born to Fred and Lucy Kammerer, and Kammerer Road, west of Highway 99, was named for his family.
Mr. Kammerer was a custodian for the Elk Grove Unified School District and worked there for many years before retiring. His interests included fishing, gold mining and “collecting a bit of everything,” said his friends.
His family said he was a fun-loving, outgoing and caring person.
Mr. Kammerer is survived by his brothers, Dennis and wife Katt of Sacramento, Fred and wife Linda of Loomis and Lanney of Grass Valley; one niece and several nephews.
A wake was held Saturday.
Dwaine Lehr
Memorial services will take place Thursday, June 22 for Dwaine E. Lehr, 73, who died June 16, 2006 following a battle with cancer.
Mr. Lehr was a native of South Dakota who lived in the Elk Grove and Wilton areas for 28 years. His family described him as an avid “ Texas Hold’em” poker fan who also loved NASCAR and listening to Chet Atkins.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Judy Lehr; daughter Tami Holderby and husband Shayne; grandchildren Timothy and Jordan Ares; and sisters La Vonne Cardoza and husband Robert, Eloise Richardson and Jeannette Dubyak.
Mr. Lehr was the brother-in-law of Iris Lehr and Jack and Diane Bidwell, and uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Thursday’s services will begin at 2 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Inurnment will be private in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Lorraine Phillips
A celebration of the life of Lorraine Geneva Phillips, a former resident of Elk Grove, will take place Oct. 12. Mrs. Phillips, 79, died Sept. 27, 2003, at the age of 79.
She was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Pueblo, Colo. to Myra and Elmer Woodruff, and grew up in southern California. In 1941 she married William Allison Phillips and the couple moved to the Hayward-San Lorenzo area where Mrs. Phillips was a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader.
Following retirement, the couple moved to Ponderosa Basin, and then to Elk Grove in 1995. Following William's death in 2001, Mrs. Phillips moved to the Villa San Ramon where she was living at the time of her death.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her children, Jeri Stark of Eugene, Ore., Jacque Thomas and husband Clyde of Pleasanton, Bill Phillips and wife Sharon of Elk Grove, Randy Phillips and Nancy DeMarco of Castro Valley, and Darryl Phillips and wife Carla of Hayward; her former daughter-in-law, Carol Phillips Simms of Castro Valley; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The celebration will begin at 1 p.m. at 3241 Omega Circle in Pleasanton. Remembrances may be made to Shriners Hospital, the local American Cancer Society or a local education fund.
Arrangements are by Graham-Hitch Mortuary, Pleasanton.
Frances Marie Pickford
Graveside services will be held today (Wednesday) for Frances Marie Pickford of Elk Grove who died Oct. 3, 2003.
Mrs. Pickford was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Colbert, Ala. She taught kindergarten and first grade in Willits, Talmage, Redwood Valley and Calpella for 28 years before retiring in 1981. She then earned a master's degree from the University of San Francisco in marriage and family counseling, and interned at Lake County Mental Health.
Mrs. Pickford was a founding board member of the Ukiah Boys and Girls Club, a volunteer at the Ukiah Senior Center and a longtime member of the Redwood Valley Church.
She also served in the Women's Army Corps (WACS) during World War II.
About three years ago she moved to Elk Grove to be near family. In Elk Grove, she joined the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Pickford was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Jack, and her infant daughter Peggy.
She is survived by her children, Anna Lia Bright of Copenhagen, Denmark, Yvette Sack and husband Gary and Maxine Pickford all of Elk Grove; her grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan Sack and Barry Stacey; her stepmother Mary Clingan; her granddaughter-in-law Christina Sack; and friend Carmen Redding.
Mrs. Pickford was the sister of Michael and William Clingan of Alabama.
Services will begin a 2:30 p.m. today at Potter Valley Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to the Ukiah Boys and Girls Club, or First Baptist Church of Elk Grove.

Dean Bergmann
Leland Dean Bergmann, a longtime resident of Wilton, died Sept. 15, 2005 after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was 77.
Mr. Bergmann was born in Byron, Neb. where his father had a machine shop and sold Minneapolis Moline tractors. Growing up and in the shop every day bred a passion for cars and how fast they could run, which never left him.
In 1945 at age 18 Mr. Bergmann joined the U.S. Navy to see the world. He retired as a lieutenant following 22 years of service, and at age 39 started a new career as a civilian and went to work at the Campbell Soup plant in Sacramento. He became area manager of the power plant, which position he held until retirement in 1967.
He was then able to pursue his passion, and became an avid racecar fan. His goal was to see the Indy 500 just one time, and this dream came true. For the next 20 years he traveled with his RV all over the country to see Nascar, Midget, Indy and Sprint races.
He also enjoyed attending Navy reunions with his former shipmates and usually arranged his trips so that he could attend at least one weekend of racing along the way.
Mr. Bergmann was a life member of the VFW in both Sacramento and Speedway, Ind., and a charter member of the Elk Grove Elks Lodge. One of his most cherished interests was his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Kass Bergmann of Wilton; children Dawn Snyder and husband Jim, Larry Bergmann and wife Leticia and Kevin Bergmann and wife Peg; grandchildren Ryan, Kyle, Kristin, Daniel, Marc and Eric; and great-grandchildren Brandon and Madeline Mach.
Mr. Bergmann was the brother of JoAnn Gladden and husband Russ and Carole Hinkel and husband Norm both of Oregon.
Services took place Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Elk Grove, with interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Northern California Unit, P.O. Box 21-4477, Sacramento, CA 95821-0477.
Arrangements were by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.
Amy Bartholomew
A memorial service for Amy Lorine Bartholomew will take place Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Elk Grove United Methodist Church, 8986 Elk Grove Blvd.
Mrs. Bartholomew, longtime resident and community supporter of Elk Grove, died Dec. 7, 2005 at the age of 94.
She and husband Alvin, who preceded her in death, were significantly involved in the Elk Grove business community and were avid supporters of cityhood for Elk Grove.
Mrs. Bartholomew was active in many organizations in town, as was her husband, causing the Elk Grove Community Services District to dedicate the Alvin and Amy Bartholomew Park to the couple in 1997.
Surviving her are children Nancy Douglass and husband Gordon of Orinda, Wayne Bartholomew and wife Jacque of Davis and Hal Bartholomew and wife Beverly Brautigam of Elk Grove; grandchildren Marla, Blake and Bret Bartholomew, Sheryl Tolson and great-grandchildren Kendall, Tommy and James all of Elk Grove, and Lori Cianfichi and great-grandson Domenic of Walnut Creek.
Private graveside services were held at South East Lawn Memorial Park, Elk Grove. Remembrances may be made to the Elk Grove United Methodist Church, 8986 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95624, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Dorothy Doerr

Dorothy May Doerr, went to be with the Lord on September 14, 2003. Born on July 7, 1915, in Willimantic, Connecticut, the only child of Arthur & Marceline Goodwin. While in Connecticut she attended business college and later worked for Hartford Insurance Company. On June 7, 1941, she married Melvin B. Doerr, of Bartlesville, OK. In 1947, along with their two daughters, they moved to Wichita, KS. While in Wichita, she gave birth to a son, her third and last child. In five short years she and Mel moved again, this time to Bellflower, CA. It would be home until 1992, when they made their last move together, to Banning, CA. Her husband Mel passed away in March of 1998. In January of 1999, she moved to Chico to be near her son and his family. While living in Bellflower, May worked as an escrow officer in Long Beach and Compton. Her interests included knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, china painting and gardening. She was an avid book reader. She devoted her life to serving her family and the Lord. She was a member of the Fellowship in the Pass, Southern Baptist Church in Beaumont and in Chico she attended the Evangelical Free Church. May is survived by her two daughters Elaine Leabman of Cherry Valley, CA and her husband Leon, and Donna Jeanne Eichele of Lincoln City, OR and her husband Art and a son Bryan Doerr of Chico, CA and his wife “Cookie.” Additionally, she has four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at the San Gorgonio Memorial Park, in Banning 11:00a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2003. Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Free Church missions or to Butte Home Health Hospice in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
