Jean Kincheloe
December 18, 1921 - September 16, 2003
Birthplace: Atlanta, Georgia
Resided In: Magalia, California
Jean Margharita Kincheloe
Jean M. Kincheloe, age 81, died on September 16, 2003 at Twin Oaks SNF, the results of diabetes. The Youngest of three children of Major Walter Harold and Ethel Maud Sutherland, Jean was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 18, 1921. In 1050 after the closure of many defense operations, Jean migrated to Consolidated Western Steel Corporation in South San Francisco where she met Bill Kincheloe. They married on April 1, 1951 and formed an indomitable duo that has lasted ever since. Starting with a mutual appreciation of music, they developed many joint pleasures; model airplanes, sports car competition, amateur radio and, ultimately, computer application. Until prevented by the onset of arthritis, Jean was skilled in knitting, needlepoint and tatting. As amateur operator K6OQD, Jean joined the American Radio Relay League and became involved with traffic nets, particularly those involving remote military bases. She joined the Los Angeles Young Ladies Radio Club, rising to President and with the international Young Ladies Radio League where she served in a variety of posts, culminating in two terms as President. She undertook the publication of the YLRL magazine, Harmonics, which, under her guidance, won two awards for excellence. She is a member of the Golden Empire Amateur Radio Society in Chico (GEARS). A member of the Paradise Rod and Gun Club, she supported their quest for a new and safer shooting range. Her hope was both to enjoy shooting as a sport and to provide a place for youth to learn the skills, discipline and techniques of safe hunting and competitive firearm use. Always an “activist,” she supported animal welfare, medical and law enforcement organizations and local schools. To friends and family alike, Jean was an honest, forthright influence that could be counted on for appropriate help when needed. She will be missed.
Jean is survived by her husband William of 52 years, her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Glen Nakamoto of Magalia and two grandsons, Andrew and Christopher. Service will be Saturday Sept. 20, 2003 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Augustine Episcopal Church. 228 Salem Chico, CA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Paradise Animal Shelter Helpers or the American Diabetes Association in care of Newton-Bracewell Cremation and Funeral service of Magalia, which handled the arrangements.
