LAILA KHALIL
Services for Laila Khalil, 18, of Durham will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2003, 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church on the corner of Filbert and Bryant streets in Chico. Laila was born in Chico on May 26, 1985 and passed away on October 31, 2003.
Laila was a 2003 graduate of Durham High School and had attended the Durham schools since kindergarten. She played the flute for eight years, was active in band, and took stats for the basketball team her junior year and the wrestling team her senior year. She also wrestled on a non-school team for a season. She worked for the family business, Chico Christian Center, when younger. Laila went to Mexico two different years, during Spring break, as part of the Young Life mission team. She was a student at Butte College and was considering a nursing career; she was employed by Holiday Market in Durham.
A visitation service will be held on Monday, November 10, 2003 from 7 – 9 p.m. at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. Interment will be at Glen Oaks Memorial Park.
Laila is survived by her mother, Lucinda Khalil of Durham; her father, Bassam Khalil of Live Oak; her older brother, Chafic of Chico; two younger brothers, Nader and Samer and a younger sister, Saara all of Durham; her grandparents, Mervin and Dorothy Parsons of Chico; her aunt and uncle, Andrea and Jim Miller of Chico; her uncle, Joel Parsons of Sparks, Nevada; and cousins, Derek and Avery Parsons, Ariana Stafford and Chaz Miller.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Laila Khalil memorial fund at Tri-Counties bank in Durham, in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home who are handling the arrangements.
Bill Luckinbill

BILL LUCKINBILL
Private Family Interment is planned for Billy Eugene Luckinbill. He died Sunday, January 18, at home surrounded by his family. He was born January 7, 1927 to Benjamin & Melvina Luckinbill in Picher, Oklahoma. As a small child his family moved to Chico where he attended local schools. Bill served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1944 to 1946. June 18, 1950 he married Shirley Browne. In 1955 he started his own business, LUCKINBILL’S CUSTOM AUTO UPHOLSTRY for which he became known worldwide. Bill is member and Past President of the 20-30 Club and a life member of the Chico Elk’s Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, two daughters, Gail Cunha and Carol Burns, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, a brother, James Luckinbill, a sister, Junella Leach, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Donations may be made to the Schriners Children’s Hospital in care of Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home.

A private family service will be held for Jackie Anne Hansen, 38, who died in Chico on January 19, 2004. She was born on June 22, 1965,to Janice Stagner and Fred Hansen in South St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1979 she moved from Duluth, MN to Medford, Oregon where she attended high school. She moved to Oroville in 1995. She will be remembered for her natural artistic talent and fun-loving, delightful personality. She was a homemaker and loving mother.
She is survived by her three children Jason Williams, Bryan Williams, and Sarah Williams all of Chico; mother and stepfather Jan and Mike Stagner of Longview, WA; sister Julie Hansen of Vancouver, WA; and brother Eric Hansen of Medford, OR. Memorial donations may be made to California Pacific Medical Center Liver Transplant Program in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

A Vigil service will be held for Miguel “Mike” Hernandez, 81, of Biggs, on Thursday, January 22, 2004, 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 5:00 p.m. at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. A Mass will be held on Friday, January 23, 2004, 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gridley, burial will follow at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery. Mike passed away on Monday, January 19, 2004 at his residence, with his loved ones at his side. He was born on January 7, 1923 in Corpus Christie, Texas to Lorenzo and Saturnina Hernandez. Mike liked fishing and gardening and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was very active with Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gridley and was a member of Knights of Columbus. Mike is survived by his wife of 60 years, Victoria L. Hernandez; eight daughters, Mary Lopez, Janie Valdez, Rita Rivera, Gloria Mize, Rosie Alvarado, Lucy Hernandez, Diana Hernandez and Norma Martinez; three sons, Carlos, Roy and Arthur Hernandez; three sisters, Lupe Ledezma, Rita Aguila and Veta Alvarez; 48 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. His daughter, Dora Hernandez Ortiz preceded him in death in 1993. Virginia Andrews

Virginia E. Andrews
Virginia Andrews, age 70, passed away on January 24, 2004 She was born on May 12, 1933 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada to Hugh and Eleanore Brechin. She was a resident of Southern California most of her life, she enjoyed a long career in musical comedy and was a soloist with churches and renowned choral groups, having toured with Roger Wagner Chorale on both national and international tours. Critics said she looked like an angel and sang with a crystalline voice. Following a successful singing career, she became administrative assistant of the Pasadena Symphony until her retirement. After moving to Magalia in 1998, she remained active in the performing arts. She and her husband were co-founders of the Alliance of Music and Theatre Arts, and she was active in theater where she wanted to be remembered as the Jessica Tandy of the Pines Players. Perhaps her greatest talent was as a writer. She completed an historical romance novel set in the Wild West, a tale of her favorite cat Tammy, and a children’s story about sea creatures. Virginia is a survived by her husband Garland Andrews of Magalia and three step-sons: Ben-James Tippey of Nevada City, and Jarrel Andrews and Darren Andrews both of Huston, Texas. Service will be Friday January 30, 2004 at 2:00p.m., at Old Magalia Historical Church at 13700 Old Skyway. This is the same church where she and her husband were married in 1999. Burial will follow at Skyway Memorial Park in Magalia. Pastor Dave Hayes will be officiating. Arrangements were handle by Newton-Bracewell Cremation and Funeral Service of Magalia.

A Memorial Service is planned for 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 29, 2004 at the Corning First Baptist Church, 506 Colusa Street, Corning, CA.
David John Stubbs was born as God’s fourth miracle boy to Ron and Sharon Stubbs on July 14, 1988 in Fortuna, CA. His early years were spent as a pastor’s kid in Loleta, CA. He lived his school years in Corning, CA until January 24, 2004. He went home to be with his Lord Jesus that day after working at his grandmother’s house with his brother Chris. He loved to have projects and help people of all ages. He enjoyed woodworking – like his grandpa, his uncle and his dad. He was slowly working on rebuilding the 1966 Baja VW he had bought from his brother Tim. He loved working in the yard, on sound systems and the computer. He overcame a reading difficulty with the same hard work and perseverance that colored his whole life. He was a visionary, anticipating and meeting peoples needs. When he was impatient with others, it was usually when they didn’t care about other people or didn’t get serious about following God.
He loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart and wished everyone he knew would “get it together” in their relationship to God and in their willingness to love other people. He confessed his faith in Jesus at an early age and was baptized along with his brothers Daniel and Chris, at First Baptist Church in Corning where he also participated in Awana. He enjoyed serving at the Manton Church for a year while his dad preached and taught on Sundays. He ran the sound system at the Orchard Church in Chico where he and his parents now attend. He helped people where it was needed. He packed Christmas love gifts for soldiers in Iraq. He was very proud of his brother Daniel who had just recently left for Marine Corps boot camp. He loved his brothers Tim, Daniel and Chris very much had fun doing things together with them.
As a Boy Scout, he was Assistant Senior Patrol leader, loved going to Summer Camp where he had served on staff last summer, was a member of the Order of the Arrow, and was on last step away from earning his Eagle Scout rank. His anticipated project was to build a stage to be used by his church for their worship services.
He loved to run. His dream was to compete in the ¼ mile at the college level, on a track scholarship. During his freshman year he lettered in Freshman football and as a sprinter on the JV track team. During his sophomore year he ran cross country to “keep in shape as a sprinter” and to everyone’s surprise consistently came in first. He was awarded track’s “most improved” JV boy runner and cross-country’s “most valuable” JV boy runner. In band he played trumpet and baritone. He was an encouragement to his teacher and band members in many ways.
David was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lloyd Stubbs, who taught him about hard work and about being creative with his hands. He is greatly missed and loved by his father Ronald, his mother Sharon, his brothers Tim, Daniel and Chris, his grandmother Dorothea, his Uncles and Aunts, Rick and Linda Mitter, and Janice and Larry Borges, Del and Mary Stubbs, and Paul and LaDeane Stubbs, his cousins Michelle, Adam, Ted, Ken, Michael, Megan, Jeremy, Matthew and Amberle, his “great Uncle and Aunt” Lauren and Ginger Stubbs and his many friends and acquaintances near and far.
Private Family Burial took place at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Corning, CA. In Lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be made to the David Stubbs Scholarship Fund, c/o Mid Valley Bank in Corning or Newton-Bracewell Funeral Services in Chico.
Livia Root

Memorial services will be held for NORA LIVIA ROOT, 92, formerly of Chico 11:00a.m. Friday January 30th at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. She died Monday January 26, 2004 in Citrus Heights. Livia was born November 23, 1911 in Lost Cabin, Wyoming to Jessie and Benjamin Cunningham. She graduated from Colorado Women’s College, and on February 5, 1934 married Lloyd Root. In 1944 the family moved to Chico. Livia enjoyed growing irises, crocheting, playing the piano, and being with her friends and family. She was a very giving person. Survivors include 2 daughters, Virginia Rose of Sacramento and Harriett Chermak of Woodland; 3 grandchildren, Ron and Roger McGlothin and Wendy Cruickshank; 3 great grandchildren Amber, Courtney and Carter; and 1 great-great grandchild, Andrew. Private burial will take place next to her husband at Chico Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.
Donald Donner
August 19, 1937 - January 30, 2004

DONALD LOYD DONNER
Donald Loyd Donner was born in Chico, Calif. on August 19, 1937. He died January 30, 2004, at home peacefully. He is the son of Harvey and Lela Donner.
After graduating from Chico High School, he served in the United States Navy for five years. He worked as a telephone technician and other things. Donald was an avid outdoorsman who loved a great adventure. He loved to tell stories and party with his many friends, here and afar, and he loved his dogs.
Survivors include his daughter Karen Jean Kegg of Chico, and her three children; son David Wayne Sharp of Japan; ex-wife Jeanie of Wash; brother and his wife Mark and Charlene Donner of Bellevue , Wash; and there children, Marcus,Cindy and Christy; nephew Mark; and nieces, Laurie and Lisa. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kathleen Hanks.
His funeral service will be held at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home on Wed, Feb 4, 2004 at 11:30.
