LAURETTA AUGUSTINE – (obituary)
Private graveside services will take place for Lauretta Ann Augustine, 62, of Marysville at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette, CA. She died Monday March 29, 2004 at a Marysville hospital. Lauretta was born July 9, 1941 to Clarence and Mabelle Augustine. She was a seamstress and lived in Marysville for the past 12-years. Survivors include 3 sons, Manuel, Arthur and Alex Marquez; 2 daughters, Leza Marquez and Miya Schwall; her mother, Mabelle Augustine; 2 brothers, Cary and Brian Augustine; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, 680 Camellia Way, Chico, CA 95926.

Mark Kosterman

A funeral mass for Mark W. Kosterman will be held 2p.m. Saturday, April 3rd at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Chico. A rosary will be said for Mark on Friday, April 2nd at 7 p.m. at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
Mark, 78, was born in Racine, Wisconsin on January 17, 1926. After serving in the Air Force, he moved to Southern California where he met his wife Mary Woodill. They moved to Chico in 1957. He was active in the community for many years. Mark served on the board of Chico Area Recreation District and was a member of the Lions Club as well as the Elks Lodge. He volunteered for the Catholic Church Homebound Ministry and the Jesus Center.
Mark enjoyed golf, tennis, traveling and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and his many friends. His family will remember him for his kind, gentle nature, his strong faith in God and his playful sense of humor.
Mark is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary, and their five children: Kathy Alexander of Albany, Oregon, Therese Kosterman Lee of Los Angeles, John Kosterman of Auburn, California, David Kosterman of Sacramento, and Annette Ewanich of Los Altos, California, 11 grandchildren, a brother Norbert and a sister Bernadine Miller of Racine. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer Kosterman Hughes.
Donations may be made to Enloe Hospice or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

Helen Regina Crane
August 09, 1910 - April 01, 2004

A memorial mass for Helen Regina Crane will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday, April 7th at St. Thomas Aquinas, Newman Catholic Center, Third and Cherry in Chico, reception to follow. Helen passed away peacefully Thursday, April 1st at her home in Forest Ranch.
Helen was born in Noonan, North Dakota on August 9, 1910 to Katherine and Patrick Noonan. She graduated from St. Joseph hospital School Nursing, Minot, North Dakota in 1931. She immediately started her nursing career at Burlington Hospital, Burlington, Wisconsin.
In 1935 She married Ralph Crane, a farmer, and started her second career as a devoted mother and homemaker. In 1955 the family moved to California. In Brawly, California the family owned and operated a Travel Lodge Motel. In 1961 she returned to her nursing career and retired in 1972 as Orthopedic Floor Supervisor at Hoag Hospital in Newport, California. At the age of 70, she became a licensed Real Estate Agent and worked in her son’s office until the age of 90.
Helen loved visiting with her many friends who stopped by the office frequently. She enjoyed road trips, including visits to Reno and Oregon. She was an avid reader and card player. She will be remembered fro her warm and caring heart, insightfully wit, generosity, and positive outlook on life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, daughter Roberta Huff, sister Patricia Noonan, brother Daniel Noonan and brother-in-law Edward Feldmeyer. She is survived by sons Jim Crane of Forest Ranch and Albert Crane of North Hollywood; grandchildren Elizabeth Huff, Kiersten Crane Morgan, Brian Crane, Samantha Crane and Mary Helen Huff; great-granddaughter Annika Crane; sisters Irma Feldmeyer and Eloise Walker; sister-in-law Gretchen Noonan; brother –in-law Bill Walker; and many extended family members and close friends.
Remembrances may be made to The Forest Ranch Community Association, Butte County Humane Society, or Charity of your choice in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

C. Ruth English
November 09, 1917 - April 01, 2004

C. Ruth English, age 86, passed away on April 1, 2004. Ruth was born in Thorpe,  West Virginia on November 9, 1917 to Riley and Lucinda South. She was married to Harley E. English who predeceased her in 1998. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Bob French of Magalia, her son and daughter-in-law Dick and Diane English, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Her urn will be placed next to her husband’s at Chico Memorial Mausoleum in Chico.

Harriet Mattiazzi
August 17, 1911 - April 02, 2004

HARRIET MATTIAZZI
A memorial service will be held for, Harriet Mellie Mattiazzi, 92, at the Chico Eagles Lodge, 1940 Mulberry, (corner of Mulberry & 20th) on Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. Harriet was born in Stirling City, California on, August 17, 1911 to Harry Barnett Scott and Jessie Pauline Geiger.
She attended school in Chico and graduated from Chico High in 1930. She met Victor Mattiazzi soon after they were married in 1932. They had one son, Robert. Both husband and son preceded her in death…
Harriet was accomplished in many areas of her life, but truly excelled in two areas. She loved to crochet. In 1954 she entered a crocheted table cloth at the California State Fair that won her a first place ribbon. She then entered it in National Competition and received an Honorable Mention.
Her second great love and accomplishment was that of giving service. In 1989 she was selected as the “Senior Woman of the Year” by the Chico Area Recreation and Park Association for her extraordinary caliber of civic leadership and responsibility. She was actively involved in the Eagles Lodge for 50 years. She served as docent at the Stanisbury Historical House. She was involved in many state projects as a member of Native Daughters of the Golden West. She interacted with many agencies in the Chico Community. She annually donated countless hours of volunteer service to numerous public and private causes and worthwhile organizations.
She is survived by Mildred Mattiazzi, her life long best friend and cousin, nephew and nieces, Gene Scott of Chico, Marilyn Thomas of Orland, George Scott of Chico, Helen Robertson of Sacramento, Marge Sasges of Chico, Jim Mattiazzi of Eugene, Oregon, and Judy Langford of Visalia, California, Elaine Scott of Bend, Oregon and Donna Eubanks.
There will be a private Internment. In Lieu of flowers please send donations to the Eagles Lodge in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

Kelly Fitzpatrick
August 14, 1994 - April 03, 2004

KELLY FITZPATRICK
A celebration of life service will be held for KELLY CHRISTINE FITZPATRICK, 9, of Chico at 2p.m. Monday April 12th at the Neighborhood Church on Notre Dame Blvd in Chico. Kelly was born August 14, 1994 and entered eternal life on Saturday April 3, 2004 as a result of an auto accident near Willows, CA. She attended 4th grade at King’s Christian School. Kelly was a member of Grace Brethren Church where she was active in the AWANA program. She had a strong desire to be a missionary and loved Jesus with her whole heart. Survivors include her beloved parents, Mark and Megan Fitzpatrick; 2 brothers, Mark Jr. and Maxwell; grandparents, Jim & Sandra Leary of Rio Vista and Julie Heinz of St. Helena. There will be a private burial with her family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kelly Fitzpatrick Memorial Fund in care of the Chico CHP office or any Tri Counties Bank.

Albert Swartout
December 25, 1923 - April 06, 2004

Albert Floyd Swartout, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 in Magalia, California. He was born on December 25, 1923 in San Fernando, California to Ivan and Lyle Swartout. He married his wife, Mary Lasiter, in 1945. The couple moved to Magalia in 1985.
He was a kind-hearted outdoorsman who loved to share his knowledge and respect of nature with others. He was a wonderful leader and mentor for anyone that embraced the many gifts that he loved to share.
He is survived by is his wife, Mary Swartout of Magalia, his daughter, Pam Daniel of Camarillo, CA, his grandchildren, April Stumbaugh and her husband, Ian Stumbaugh, of Camarillo, CA, Ginger Daniel of  Washington, DC, Brian Daniel of Fort Sill, OK, great grandson, Cody Stumbaugh of Camarillo, CA and his brother, Gordon Swartout of Paradise, CA,
He had a deep love for his family. He will be truly missed by family and friends. Memorial service is to be performed by the officers of the Paradise Elks Lodge at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday the 10th day of April 2004.
