Jeane Pratt
September 09, 1921 - June 21, 2004
Birthplace: Erie,  Pennsylvania
Resided In: Chico, California
Jeane Pratt
A memorial service for Jeane W. Pratt, 82, of Chico, will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2004, 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Fellowship of Chico, 1289 Filbert Avenue.
Jeane passed away very peacefully, on Monday, June 21, 2004, with Steve, her son, at her side. He watched with relief as she took her last breath. She had been dealing with symptoms of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s for four years and the Mom we knew had left us a long time ago. The simple site of her was still comforting to us but she was ready to leave her body behind.
Jeane was born on September 9, 1921 in Erie,  Pennsylvania to Lauren and Mildred Getz Wright. Jeane enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as an officer during WWII, from 1943 until 1945. On January 6, 1945 she married Henry Pratt.
Jeane was a silent, strong pillar kind of person. She was the foundation of our family and most of the time we did not realize it or credit her for it. She was always thinking of what was best for us. She wanted us to have a good time and be able to do everything and anything we wanted to do. She took special care of us and gave us wonderful homes to live in. We never doubted her love.
She was a dedicated R.N. for 40 years. She worked as a school nurse, staff nurse at a Veteran’s Hospital, and finally as a member of the Red Cross blood collecting team that traveled around Connecticut taking blood donations.
Jeane and Henry moved from Virginia to Chico in 1990. She was a member of the Unitaian Fellowship in Chico. Jeane loved driving back to New England every summer; staying in the family cottage in Gloucester, MA. Jean did things right. She stuck to her guns even in a family that didn’t want to. She took care of family business and history and we stagger along without her.
I know it is common to realize how we do not appreciate and express our love to our living loved ones while we can. May the memory of our mom and wife be that we all think to express those feelings and love while we can hear and appreciate them. When loved ones are gone, the desire to have loved them more is left.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Henry Pratt of Chico, CA; son, Steve Pratt of Boston, VA; daughter, Bobbi Tryon of Chico; sister, Ann Conrad of Houston, TX and two granddaughters, Jessica Peck of Corona, CA and Emily Mellon of Silverspring, MD.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Esplanade House or to Butte County Homeless Shelter Partnership in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home who are handling the arrangements.
