Angela Mary Tipps

A Memorial Mass will be held for, Angela Mary Tipps, 78, of Chico, on Tuesday, November 23, 2004, 2:00 p.m. at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church. Angela passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2004, at a local care facility, with loved ones by her side. She was born on April 25, 1926 in Glendale, California to Secondo and Mary Teodo. Angela worked for many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, CA, as a volunteer. She was also a very dedicated volunteer for the Catholic Daughters Relief Society in Chico. Angela is survived by her sons, Jim Tipps and Steve Tipps; daughters, Diane Reynolds and Julie Curiale; and three granddaughters, Allie Reynolds, Michelle Reynolds, and Ashley Curiale. Memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Daughters Relief Society, Chico Chapter, in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home who are handling the arrangements.

Albert "Al" Daryl Dally

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 29, 2004 at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home for Albert “Al” Daryl Dally. He died Saturday, November 20, 2004 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Al was born September 12, 1913 to Albert & Alva Dally in San Francisco, California. He was raised and educated in the Dixon/Elmira areas. He moved to Sacramento and attended Healds Business College, graduating with a Business Degree in Accounting. Al served two years in the United States Army. May 17, 1947 he married LaMoyne Dalziell in Sacramento. In 1950 they moved to Chico. Al retired in 1982 after 35 years as Manager for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Chico, Oroville and Willows. He was a member of Chico Leland Stanford Masonic Lodge # 111 F&AM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Free Masons, Sacramento, Athens Silveyville Masonic Lodge # 201, Paradise Shrine Club, Chico Shrine Club, Past President 1966, Potentate Aide 1967 Sacramento, Knights Templer Commandery # 38, Vacaville, Black Butte Scottish Rite, Order of the Eastern Star Life Member Golden Rod Chapter # 221, Dixon, Order of the Amaranth Royal Patron 1979 & 1981, Chico High Twelve # 251, Chico Elk’s Lodge, Enloe Men’s Associates, 459th Bomb Group and SIRS # 63.
He is survived by his wife LaMoyne, sons and daughter in laws, Darrell & Terra Dally and Robert & Erica Dally, daughter and son in law, Andrea & Robert Bruce, grandson, Jacob Glidewell, and granddaughter, Alexandra Dally.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 – 5 at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Masonic Section of Chico Cemetery.
Memorial Donations may be made to either the Shrine Hospital, Enloe Foundation or Butte Home Health & Hospice.
The family would like to thank the girls at Butte Home Health & Hospice for taking such good care of Dad. We’ll miss you Dad.

Jim McCusker
January 15, 1928 - November 20, 2004

Resided In: Paradise, California
Jim was born January 15, 1928 in Turlock,  Calif. to Charles and Gladys McCusker. He passed away in his home in Paradise on November 20, 2004 at the age of 76.
Along with his siblings, Bufford and Dorothy, Jim became a professional ice skater and they formed their own ice show, Ice Ladia, which toured the U.S. Jim went on to skate in the movies and was even Cary Grant’s double in, The Bishops Wife.
Jim served in the Korean War with the first cavalry. He opened a detective agency on Hollywood Blvd. and worked for Howard Hughes as his personal investigator.
Jim and his wife Suzanne moved to Chico in 1971. They bought an orchard in Cana, and farmed for 33 years before retiring in Paradise.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Suzanne; daughters, Cris Richmond of Chico, and Kelly Fadel of Newport Beach,  Calif., two grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jim will be laid to rest at Pine Creek Cemetery. No services were requested. Memorial contributions can be made to the Paradise Animal Shelter in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

Burton Phillip Feingold
August 05, 1930 - November 20, 2004

Burton Phillip Feingold was born August 5, 1930 at the old Enloe Hospital on Flume Street and passed away quietly on November 20, 2004. He was the son of David and Sophie Feingold of Chico and brother to his baby sister, Fern who all preceded him in death. Burton attended Chico elementary schools and graduated from Chico High School in 1949. He joined the Air Force and served for 4 years, being stationed first in Nogoya, Japan, and later in St. Louis Missouri where he went to school at Central Missouri State. Following the service he returned to Chico where he attended Chico State and later met his wife, Laurene. On March 29, 1958 the couple married. Burt leaves his wife; 3 sons, Scott, Rod, wife Dana and Rick; two grandchildren, Bradley and Christa; stepbrother, Syl Lucena; stepmother, Ann Lucena; stepsister, Connie Pincus; stepbrothers, Joe and Dan Navarro. He will be missed by his family and friends. Burt worked as a young boy with his family in their western wear store in the ‘40s. He also worked at Feingolds Men’s Wear for his Uncle Jack and later Chico State University during the ‘70s and’80s. He enjoyed traveling with his family, being with his grandchildren, attending sporting events and reading. A memorial service will be held 1:00p.m. Saturday November 27th at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. A visitation will be held 5 to 7p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and entombment will take place at Chico Memorial Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Chico State Track Program or the Sports Boosters of Chico High or Pleasant Valley High School. A social celebration of Burt’s life will be held at a later date.

Laura Mae Shippen-Gruver
November 14, 1949 - November 21, 2004

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home for Laura Mae Gruver. She died Sunday, November 21, 2004 at a local hospital. She was born November 14, 1949 in Colusa, California. As an infant she moved to Sacramento with her mother. In 1956 her mother Frances married William Shippen and they moved to Chico. Laura attended Citrus Elementary, Chico Jr. and Chico High School, graduating in 1967. In August of 1968 she married Gerald Smith and they had one son, Aaron. Gerald preceded her in death in 1975. In 1976 she met Don Gruver and they married shortly thereafter. Laura owned and operated Transcription Express for ten years. She enjoyed collecting ceramic elephants and beanie babies, cooking, traveling and trips to the ocean. She was preceded in death by her father Bill Shippen in 2001. She is survived by her husband Don, a son Aaron Smith, her mother Frances Shippen, brothers and sisters-in-law Ken and Shirley Shippen, and Bill and Mary Shippen, mother-in-law Jean Smith, five nephews, one niece, and her dear friend, Linda Pastrone. Inurnment will take place at Chico Memorial Mausoleum. Memorial Donations may be made to either the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

Howard Russell Paine
April 11, 1913 - November 23, 2004

Howard Russell “Russ” Paine
Russ Paine passed away surrounded by his family on November 23, 2004, at age 91. He was born April 11, 1913, in Long Beach, California and married Winifred “Win” Thompson July 3, 1941. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage until her death in August 2003.
Education and community service were important to Russ. He earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees at Stanford University, and his EdD. at the University of Southern California. He worked as both a journalist and an educator, chairing the Journalism Department at East Los Angeles College for 26 years where, under his leadership, the campus newspaper won awards for excellence.
Russ lived with Win in Monterey Park, California, from1956 to 2002 where he was recognized for outstanding community service by the City of Monterey Park, LAMP Optimists, East Los Angeles College, the California Historical Society, the United Methodist Church, Phi Delta Kappa, and Los Angeles County. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII..
Family vacations were one of Russ’ priorities–especially time spent at the family cabin at Lake Arrowhead. He traveled with his wife to Mexico, Alaska, China, Africa, South America, and just about every warm water destination on the globe. He led an active life which included scuba diving, water skiing, hiking and fishing, gardening, and tennis. He loved cross word puzzles. Most of all, he was a teacher - interested in everyone, he wanted to make others happy.
Win and Russ moved to Chico in 2002 to be near their daughter, Bonnie Wilson, and her husband Gary. In Chico they continued their active life with the Trinity United Methodist Church, bird watching and Sierra Sunrise activities. After Win’s death in 2003, Russ lived at Windchime of Chico.
Russ is survived by his children and their families: Bonnie, Gary, Ben and David Wilson of Chico, CA; Rick Paine and Lynnaea Lumbard of Cortes Island, B.C., Canada; and Betty, Tony, Lynne and JoAnna Christopher of Los Altos, CA. He also is survived by Win’s sister and family: Iris Tautfest, Michael and Margarita Tautfest, Karyn and Mike Ehrenfeldt, and Sharyn Pohlman.
A private service will be held at his daughter’s home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church, 285 E. Fifth St., Chico, 95928, or Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 333 S. Garfield Ave., Monterey Park, 91754, or in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

Robert Jacobsen
June 28, 1936 - November 28, 2004

Robert Stanford Jacobsen
Robert (Jake) Stanford Jacobsen, 68, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away in Paradise on November 28, 2004 as a result of complications from lung cancer.
Born in San Francisco on June 28, 1936 to Stanford and Nina Jacobsen, he and his family moved to San Mateo where he was in Demolay, and graduated from San Mateo High School. Jake was a member of the National Coast Guard Reserve, and worked for the Pacific Telephone Company. He moved to Paradise in 1976 and retired in 1990 from Chico office of Pacific Bell after 35 years of service.
Jake was married to Jeanette (Jean) Rose Puchner for 48 years. They were blessed to have 13 years of retirement together in which they studied and taught the art of stained glass, and spent many summers camping and fishing at Bucks Lake with family and friends. He was also an avid 49er fan.
Jake is survived by his loving wife Jean and their two children: Linda Rice and her husband Shaun, from Yuba City; and Tom Jacobsen and his wife Sharon, from Paradise. He is also survived by two grandchildren: Kate and Andrew Rice.
A private graveside service will be held on December 3, 2004 at the Chico Memorial Mausoleum, followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00pm in the Fellowship Hall at the Paradise Seventh-day Adventist Church on Academy Drive in Paradise.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Feather River Hospital Foundation. Arrangements were handled by Newton-Bracewell Cremation and funeral service.
