Ann McAllister
Ann Brown McAllister, a former resident of Elk Grove, died in Sacramento on Nov. 6, 2006 at the age of 81.
Mrs. McAllister was born in San Francisco to Wilson J. and Helen O. Brown, and had resided in Sacramento County for 76 years. She attended Sacramento city schools through junior college, then studied at the University of Oregon as an art major.
Her career covered employment with the state of California, stewardess with Pan American Airlines, and secretary with the Elk Grove Unified School District. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish and Sacramento Junior League.
Mrs. McAllister was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy K. Chapman and sister-in-law Mary Jane McAllister.
She is survived by her husband of 57 ½ years, Neil McAllister Jr.; children Mary Ann McAllister, Neil R. McAllister III and Katherine McAllister; grandchildren Heidi Ann Scharrenberg and husband Matthew, Brien Charles Noonan Schmuck, Brigetta Ann Regina Schmuck and Kelly Anne McAllister; and great-grandchild Thomas Matthew Scharrenberg.
Mrs. McAllister was the sister-in-law of Wilson M. Chapman and aunt of Richard Chapman and Sally Ann Dillon, and also leaves behind Lory and Katie Chapman, Jeffery Peterson and Glen Dillon.
Funeral services took place Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by interment in East Lawn Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Sacred Heart School Foundation, c/o 1040 39th St., Sacramento, CA 95816.
Arrangements were by W.F. Gormley & Sons.

Cmdr. Kenton Bradley
Retired Navy Commander Kenton Tyler Bradley, a 19-year resident of Elk Grove, died Oct. 31, 2006 at the age of 87.
Cmdr. Bradley was born Dec. 30, 1918 in McCoy, Ore. and grew up in Albany, graduating from high school there in 1937. He graduated from Oregon State University in 1941 with a pre-med degree in preparation for dental school, then served in the Navy during World War II as a pharmacist mate 2nd class, at Dutch Harbor, Alaska.
After the war he returned to Oregon State, receiving his doctor’s degree in dentistry in 1948. Following a brief period in private practice, he rejoined the Navy as a dentist, retiring in 1980 with the rank of commander.
Cmdr. Bradley and his second wife Florence moved to Elk Grove from San Diego in May 1988. The two became reacquainted at their 50th high school class reunion in 1987.
Florence Bradley survives him, as do his daughters, Shyla Crowson of San Diego, Cheryl Aguilar of Valley Center and Patsy Shreve of Pensacola, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
No services were held at his request.

Joe Green
Funeral services will take place Friday, Nov. 17 for Joe Green, a native and lifelong resident of Courtland, who died Nov. 9, 2006 at the age of 88.
Mr. Green spent most of his life as a pear grower in the Delta. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and was a flight instructor in the Army Air Corps prior to duty as a P-38 pilot stationed in the Aleutians. After the war he returned to Courtland and resumed farming.
He was born Oct. 7, 1918 in Courtland. Besides farming, he was active in the community, serving as past president of the Rotary Club of Walnut Grove where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow, and past president of the Native Sons of the Golden West and the Denverton Duck Club.
Mr. Green was a member of Franklin Lodge No.134 F&AM since 1949, the board of directors of Merchants National Bank for 15 years, Reclamation District No. 551, Lincoln Club and U.C. Davis Alumni and Chancellors Club since 1981.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie; son Barry Green and wife Kathy, daughter Debbie Green; sister Roberta Gentner and husband Reuben; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 16 from noon to 7 p.m. at South East Lawn Mortuary, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove. Friday’s services begin at 10 a.m. in the chapel at the mortuary. Cremation is private.
Remembrances may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA; to Sutter VNA Hospice, 2800 L St., Sacramento, CA 95816; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Phyllis Krull
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 17 for Phyllis C. Krull, a “farmerette” as she described herself and member of the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps, who died Nov. 9, 2006 at the age of 91.
She was born Oct. 18, 1915 in Florin to Ben and Jennie Thomas and grew up on the family dairy farm where grapes were also grown. She then rented her own dairy on land where the Florin Fire Department now is.
When World War II broke out, Mrs. Krull was working for the Franchise Tax Board in Sacramento. She heard about the government forming the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps, took the test, passed and enlisted. Her first station was Ft. Des Moines near Ames, Iowa.
Pfc. Krull was scheduled to go to Normandy with her unit for D-Day, but was ill with pneumonia and forced to stay behind. She then became a “90-day wonder,” graduating from Officers Candidate School in three months with the rank of second lieutenant.
By the time of her discharge at Beale Air Force Base in 1946, she had risen to the rank of captain and had been the company commander of 250 women.
She returned to Florin to discover her family had sold the animals on her dairy. She rented a new dairy and sold milk to Sego Milk Co.
The driver who picked up the milk was a young man by the name of Robert Krull who had gone to Elk Grove High School with her (a year ahead). The couple married Sept. 21, 1947 in the Thomas family home on the corner of Elder Creek and Florin-Perkins roads.
They settled on the Krull dairy ranch on Poppy Ridge Road in Elk Grove, where they sold milk to Crystal Creamery and raised their family. He died in 1981.
Mrs. Krull was president of the Elk Grove Elementary School Mothers Club, a member of the Parents Club at Franklin Elementary School, and president of Elk Grove High School PTA where she was made a life member.
She was a longtime member of the Elk Grove Book Club and the Native Daughters of the Golden West.
Mrs. Krull is survived by her sons, Robert E. Krull II and Thomas A. Krull; grandchildren Lori, Kathleen, Aleta, Ben, Jonathan and Bretlynn; and great-grandchildren Joseph and Katherine.
Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Sacramento Memorial Lawn, 6100 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento. Friday’s services will begin at 10 a.m. at Sacramento Memorial Lawn.

Elmer Dennis
Memorial services will take place Saturday, April 23 for Elmer H. Dennis, coach and physical education teacher for the Elk Grove Unified School District for 38 years, who died April 12, 2005 at the age of 78.
Mr. Dennis taught PE and coached football, basketball, baseball and track and field at various levels at Elk Grove High School from 1952 to 1969, and then taught PE and coached several sports at James Rutter Middle School until 1990.
While at Elk Grove High School, he coached the boys’ varsity basketball team from 1952 to 1966, winning three league championships with the last championship coming in his final season.
Mr. Dennis was born Dec. 29, 1926 in Topeka, Kan. to Gevena and Elmer Dennis. A graduate of Sacramento High School, he competed in football, basketball, baseball and the pole vault. He then served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II, in 1945-46 as a paratrooper, and military policeman in Japan.
He continued with football, basketball and the pole vault at Sacramento City College, and following graduation, went to Sacramento State College where he played on the first basketball team in 1949, also graduating from that institution. He received his master’s degree in physical education in 1957.
Before coming to Elk Grove, Mr. Dennis taught PE and coached varsity baseball and JV basketball at Folsom High School from 1950-52.
He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Masonic Lodge No. 40.
Mr. Dennis was preceded in death by his son Elmer Harold (Hal) Dennis and his sisters, Helen Hays and Margaret Gaddy.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy-Jane; children Robert V. Dennis and Pamela Andrews and husband Gary all of Sacramento and Paul S. Dennis and wife Connie of Elk Grove; grandsons Michael Andrews and Riley and Christian Dennis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Saturday’s services begin at 2 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4910 Lemon Hill Ave., Sacramento. Remembrances may be made to Hospice, 3400 Data Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 or Gloria Dei Lutheran School, Athletics, 4910 Lemon Hill Ave., Sacramento, CA 95824.

Maude Haston
Maude Jane Haston, oldest resident of Elk Grove Care and Rehabilitation, a title she held for the past six years, died April 8, 2005 at the age of 106.
Mrs. Haston was born Jan. 12, 1899 to Thomas R. Kendrick and Molly  Johnson in Grove Springs, Mo. She was one of 13 children, one of which was her twin brother.
She grew up in Missouri, coming to California with her husband during the Great Depression. The couple worked in the agricultural fields up and down the state until they bought property in Carmichael.
They then worked at McClellan Air Force Base from 1946 to 1981 and owned a small dairy on Hedge Avenue and  Jackson Road.
The couple were members of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, and donated part of their land to the church where it is still located.
Benjamin Haston preceded his wife in death. She stayed on at their home until she was 95, at which time she moved to Elk Grove Care and Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Haston was also preceded in death by her daughter Jeanne Jacobson and 11 of her siblings.
She is survived by her children Elsie Hall of Elk Grove and Bud and Ernest Haston, both of Sacramento; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Ethel May of Indian Springs, Kan.
Services took place April 15 at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park, Carmichael.
