William Dumas
Visitation is today and funeral services are Saturday, June 21 for William H. (Goody) Dumas of Elk Grove, who died June 15, 2003 at the age of 97.
Mr. Dumas was an electrician by trade and worked on heavy motors and equipment during World War II and later at General Motors in Norwood, Ohio. During the war he was responsible for large electrical equipment and motors at Wrights Aeronautical Plant in Ohio.
He was the first to build a crystal radio in northern Kentucky in the 1920s.
Following the Great Depression, he went to barber college in Cincinnati, and later owned and ran the college. After the war he and his wife, Val, bought a road house in northern Kentucky, the Log Cabin Inn, which they ran until they moved to Van Nuys in the early 1950s. He then worked as superintendent of maintenance and new construction at the Marquardt Corporation for 16 years.
Following retirement, the couple moved to Elk Grove to be closer to their family.
Mr. Dumas enjoyed fishing and hunting, and repairing anything mechanical.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Valanda, on Jan. 2, 2002.
Mr. Dumas is survived by his children, Roger Dumas and Thomas Dumas; his grandchildren, Peggy Riffle, Valerie Keppinger, Rebecca Vasquez, Jennifer Jacobs, John W. and C. Trent Dumas; his great-grandchildren, Kim and Richard Fox, Billy and Jeff Keppinger, Nick and Ashlee Baltzell, Daniel, Mark and Luke Jacobs, Riley and Megan Dumas; and great-great-grandchildren Emily and Molly Fox.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at South East Lawn Mortuary, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove. Saturday's services, also at South East Lawn, begin at 10 a.m.

Francisco Jacobo
Funeral services will be held Thursday for Francisco Mois Jacobo of Elk Grove who died Jan. 16, 2003, at the age of 45.
Mr. Jacobo was a native of Mexico who had lived in the Sacramento-Elk Grove area for 14 years.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years Sandra Jacobo; his children, Adrian, Yesenia and Andrew Jacobo all of Elk Grove; and his father Francisco Jacobo of Redwood City.
Mr. Jacobo was the brother of Norberto and Saul of Mexico, Fausto of Vacaville, Irene of Sunnyvale, Mercedes of Redwood City and Beatrice of Foster City.
Visitation is today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Services will begin Thursday at 11 a.m. also at the chapel, followed by interment in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Ernest Boone
Ernest L. Boone, a longtime resident of the Elk Grove area, died Jan. 13, 2003, at the age of 82.
Mr. Boone was born on Feb. 10, 1920, in Portland, Ore. In this area, he lived in Florin, Wilton and Elk Grove, and owned and operated Boone Realty in Wilton in the 1960s.
He spent many years in the cooperage business with his brother-in-law, Chris Maggy, and they built redwood wine tanks throughout the Napa-Sonoma area.
Mr. Boone was very patriotic and showed his love for his country and community through the many letters he wrote which were published in the Elk Grove Citizen.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Chris Maggy, and another sister, Elsie Snurerle.
Mr. Boone is survived by his wife of 62 years Evelyn of Elk Grove; his sons, Chris Boone of Bishop and Ernie Boone of Sacramento; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
At his request no services were held.

Frank Kovacs
Frank Anton Kovacs, a resident of Elk Grove for the past 16 years, died Jan. 9, 2003, at the age of 81.
Mr. Kovacs was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Cranford, N.J., where he grew up. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Coast Guard on the USS Joseph Dickman and USS Hunter Liggett in the Pacific and North African theaters.
He lived in Sacramento for 40 years before moving to Elk Grove, and retired from SMUD as a senior engineering estimator after 33 years.
Mr. Kovacs was a 52-year member of Elk Grove Lodge No. 173, F&AM, and a member of Emerald Lakes Golf Club and SIRS Camellia City Branch No. 3. He volunteered with Little Linkers, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed watch repair, leather work, beekeeping, fishing, tinkering and taking cruises.
Mr. Kovacs is survived by his wife of 58 years Ruby; and his daughter, Christine Banks and husband Tom all of Elk Grove.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements were by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.

Paul Pinard
Paul Pinard, a resident of Galt for 47 years, died June 5, 2003 at the age of 75.
Mr. Pinard was born March 2, 1928 in Vale, S.D. He was a disabled veteran of the Korean War.
"He'll always be 'Uncle Pee-wee' to us," said his niece, Penny Pinard of Elk Grove. "And we'll remember his fondness for doing crossword puzzles. He will be greatly missed."
Mr. Pinard is survived by his brothers, Loy Pinard of Elk Grove and Alex Pinard of Galt; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Thursday afternoon at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sacramento. A reception followed at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, Galt.

Aaron Horst
Funeral services will take place Monday, June 16 for Aaron E. Horst who died June 9, 2003 at the age of 79.
Mr. Horst was the husband of Loretta Horst for 56 years; the father of David, Darrell and Mike Horst; the grandfather of six and great-grandfather of four. He was the brother of Leonard, Ken and Leon Horst.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at South East Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, also at South East Lawn.
Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, CA 94010 or American Diabetes Association, 8912 Volunteer Way, Sacramento, CA 95826.

James Carver
Memorial services will take place Thursday, June 17 for James Dean Carver, a former longtime resident of Rancho Murieta, who died June 11, 2004 as a result of an accidental drowning. He resided on his boat, the Delta Princess, on the Sacramento River.
Mr. Carver was born an identical twin in Lamar,  Colo. on April 7, 1945. At age 9, his family moved to Woonsocket, S.D. where he graduated from high school and later graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in business. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Carver was president of Sierra Asphalt in Rancho Cordova, and lived for many years at Rancho Murieta.
He is survived by his father, Russell Carver of Belle Fourche, S.D.; his brothers, Tom Carver of Rancho Murieta and Kit Carver of Woonsocket; his sister, Carolyn Jenkins of Minneapolis; his stepsons, John Myers of San Francisco and Jeremy Myers of Rancho Murieta; and his granddaughter, Brenna Myers.
Thursday's services begin at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Elk Grove, 8939 East Stockton Blvd. Remembrances may be made to the James Carver Memorial Fund to benefit the Sacto Diving and Response Team, c/o of the First Baptist Church.

Sweetie W. Morton
Sweetie W. Morton, a two-year resident of Elk Grove, died in Sacramento on March 4, 2007. She was 78.
Morton was preceded in death by her husband Jack B. Morton; her son, Robert S. Morton, and daughter Jacqueline S. Vosney.
She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Lackman and husband Vernon, of Santa Clarita; Nanci Harper and husband Robert Harper, of Sacramento; and various grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were scheduled for March 10 in Lancaster,  Texas, at the Byrum Funeral Home. Ms. Morton will be interred at the Edgewood Cemetery in Lancaster.

Leroy J. Howard
Leroy J. Howard, a 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force and a 20-year employee of the U.S. Postal Service, died on March 3, 2007. He was 74.
Howard is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Howard, of Sacramento; daughters, Cheryl Pavelchik and husband Terry of Wilton, and Sharon Sunquist, of Sacramento; and eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A native of Minneapolis, Minn., Howard was a resident of Sacramento County since 1969.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, March 12, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of South East Lawn Mortuary, 9189 E. Stockton Blvd. Military honors will be provided by the Travis Air Force Base Honor Squad.
