Margaret Jones
Margaret Adeline (Maggie) Jones, last of her generation of the  Jones family of Elk Grove Water Works, died May 10, 2007 at the age of 87.
Miss  Jones was born April 10, 1920 to Ira and Selma  Jones in the family home on School Street. She was developmentally disabled and was unable to speak, but was cared for at home by her parents throughout their lives.
For part of her adult life she lived in Terra Bella and Porterville at the Home of the Good Shepherd, with much help from her sister-in-law Betty  Jones who was an R.N. and Jessie Baker for whom the Elk Grove school is named, recognized author and expert in the field of developmental disabilities.
At the home Miss  Jones won first prize more than once at the County fair for her hooked rugs and yarn creations. Her family said her hands were her greatest way of expressing herself, and she kept them busy.
She returned to Elk Grove and lived at Elk Grove Care and Rehab, just a few blocks from the home she was born in.
Miss  Jones was preceded in death by her brother Marvin (Bud)  Jones and wife Elizabeth (Betty), and her sister Helen  Jones Roccaforte.
She is survived by nieces Kathryn (Katy)  Jones and husband Ed Adams, Marietta Bondi Hudson and husband Ron; nephew J.B. Jones; great-niece and nephew Jamie Porter and husband Brian and Andrew Hudson; and great-great-nieces and nephew Taryn, Kyndel and Garret Norton.
Services are private. She will be interred in the family plot in the Elk Grove District Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Jessie Baker School, 8850 Southside Ave., Elk Grove, CA 95624.
Arrangements are by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.

Richard Walton
Richard Allen Walton Sr. of south Sacramento died Oct. 10, 2001 at the age of 82. He was born Jan. 20, 1919 in San Francisco.
Mr. Walton was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Air Force, receiving his discharge in 1946. He re-enlisted in 1952 and was called to active duty in 1968, later retiring as a chief master sergeant.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Air Force Sergeants Association, and enjoyed the sport of bowling.
Mr. Walton was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis.
He is survived by his former wife, Margaret Rusk of Oroville; his children, Roberta Kenner of  Washington, Thomasine Shepard of Arizona, Richard Walton Jr. of  Louisiana and Ronald Walton of Oroville;12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Jane Morris of Port Ludlow, Wash.; and five brothers.
Services will take place at a later date at San Joaquin National Cemetery. Arrangements were by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.

Orval Hayse
Orval Floyd Hayse, a longtime resident of the Elk Grove area, died Oct. 15, 2001. Mr. Hayse was born Dec. 14, 1919 in Wewoka, Okla.
The family moved to California in 1929 and he grew up in Watsonville. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of Carpenters’ Local No. 586 for 50 years.
Following retirement, he farmed with his sons in this area. He was an active member of both the Elk Grove Grange No. 86 and Florin Historical Society, and was the volunteer caretaker of Matthew Kilgore Cemetery.
Mr. Hayse was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Hayse, and his brothers, Leonard Hayse and Claude Mulaney.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Hayse; his sons, Floyd Richard Hayse and wife Tracy of Dallas and John Hayse of Florin; and his grandchildren, Seth and wife Heather of Rancho Santa Margarita, Aaron and Logan of Dallas.
Mr. Hayse was the brother of Faye Vickers of Payette, Idaho, and uncle to several nieces and nephews.
Remembrances may be made to Kaiser Hospice, 2025 Morse Ave., Sacramento, CA 95825; Florin Historical Society, P.O. Box 292155, Sacramento, CA 95829; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Private interment was at South East Lawn Memorial Park, Elk Grove.

William Oliver
William D. Oliver, a resident of Elk Grove for the past 25 years, died Feb. 22, 2003, at the age of 78.
He was a native of Kentucky and a truck driver before retirement.
A special hobby was fishing with his son-in-law.
Mr. Oliver is survived by his wife, Maria Oliver of Elk Grove; his children, Michael David Oliver and wife Judy of New Mexico, Patricia Diane Oliver and husband Greg Parker of Stockton, and Kevin Dale Oliver of Sacramento; and his grandchildren, Joel Oliver, Ryan Oliver, Scott Parker, Aubrianne Parker, Nickolas Oliver and Matthew Oliver.
At his request no services were held. Arrangements were by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.

Francis Haydock
Francis B. "Frank" Haydock, co-founder of the first Toastmasters chapter in Elk Grove, died Feb. 20, 2003, at the age of 88.
Mr. Haydock was born in Mt. Kisco, N.Y. on March 16, 1914. He had a long career in aerospace engineering and technical writing, including service during World War II in North Africa, and two years in Iran with Pan Am before the Shah was deposed.
He was an artist, writer, sculptor and public speaker.
Mr. Haydock moved to Wilton in 1981 and promptly became active in the community. In addition to starting Toastmasters, he taught reflexology at the Senior Center of Elk Grove, and wrote special interest articles for various publications, including the Elk Grove Citizen.
Mr. Haydock is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Ward of Stockton; his son, Roger Haydock of Pleasanton and their families, including a grandson, Grayson Haydock; and his former wife, Kathryn Chardin.

Peter Martin
Peter Kilburn (Pete) Martin, 58, died May 12, 2003 at his home in Anacortes, Wash.
Mr. Martin owned and operated Elk Grove Ace Hardware from 1989 to 1998, in the Elk Park Village shopping center, where Bank of Lodi is now located.
He was born May 26, 1944 in San Jose and grew up in Los Gatos, graduating from Saratoga High School in Saratoga in 1963. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam as a jet engine mechanic until 1968.
Mr. Martin worked for JJ Rebar in Sacramento and Fibreboard in Rocklin. He was a general contractor and owned and operated Martin Building Service in Anacortes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Martha Martin and his brother, Michael Martin.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Bev; his children Bryan Costanza and wife Michelle, Keith and Ken Costanza, Matt Martin and Jenn Ward and husband Dave; and his grandchildren Justin, Aubrey and Renee Costanza.
He was the brother of Tim Martin.
Funeral services took place Thursday at Anacortes Christian Church where he was a member. Remembrances may be made to the church's building fund, Att: Pastor John Douglas, 1211 M Ave., Anacortes, WA 98221.
Arrangements were by Evans Funeral Chapel, Anacortes.

William Grenz
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17 for William John (Bill) Grenz, who died Thursday, May 8, 2003 at the age of 81.
Mr. Grenz came to Elk Grove at the age of 3 where he was raised on a dairy farm and attended Elk Grove schools.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander. Upon his discharge he went to work for Campbell Soup Co. for 34 years, retiring as area manager.
His hobby was horse racing and he bred, raised and owned race horses for 27 years.
Mr. Grenz was preceded in death by sisters Emma Goodier, Louise Rivas, Bertha Flemmer and Lydia Averill, and brothers Arthur and Albert Grenz.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years Nadia Kronlund-Grenz; his children Roxanna Ray of Sacramento, Steven Grenz and wife Diane of Somerset and Michael Kronlund and wife Barbara of Stockton; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at South East Lawn Mortuary, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove.
Saturday's services begin at 2 p.m. at the mortuary's chapel. Interment is private.
