Raymond Porter
Raymond O. Porter, a 50-year resident of this area, died in Sacramento Dec. 5, 2006 at the age of 77.
Mr. Porter was the owner of two Shell service stations in Sacramento County for 25 years, and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Elk Grove. He was born in La Junta,  Colo. and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary M. Ross Porter, who died April 27, 2001.
Mr. Porter is survived by his children, retired Air Force Col. William F. Porter and wife Donna of Colorado, Betty Long and husband Larry of Oroville, Holly Harkins and husband Roy of Happy Camp and Nicole Carlson and husband Michael of Indiana; grandchildren Matt and wife Rachel, Zachary, Krysti, Alexandria, Bubba, Madison and Michael Jr.; and great-grandchildren Eliza and Greer.
Services were held Tuesday in South East Lawn Mortuary Chapel, Elk Grove, followed by interment in South East Lawn Memorial Park.

Shannon Hanson
Memorial services will take place Saturday, Dec. 16 for Shannon M. Hanson who died Dec. 6, 2006 at the age of 32.
Mr. Hanson was a native and lifelong resident of Sacramento. He was a foreman in Environmental Restoration, and interests included hunting and fishing.
He was the husband of Kelly Bryan Hanson of Sacramento; son of Robert and Joyce Hanson of Pollock Pines; grandson of Gertrude Hanson and Richard Walton; and brother of Shawna Watson of Sacramento and Robby Hanson and wife Kari of Wilton.
Mr. Hanson is also survived by his in-laws Karen Bryan and David Bryan both of Elk Grove; nieces and nephews Eric, Robert, Sierra, Christopher, Amanda, Scotty and Tyler; cousin Cliff; and brother-in-law Matt Bryan and wife Tracy.
Saturday’s services begin at 2 p.m. in South East Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove. A reception will follow.

Helen Galbaugh
Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 15 for Helen M. Galbaugh who died Dec. 8, 2006 at the age of 93.
She was born Sept. 21, 1913 in Denver,  Colo. to Edwin and Grace Woolverton, and was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Galbaugh Sr.
Mrs. Galbaugh is survived by her daughters Alretta Spinden and husband Leon of Colorado and Sandra Smith of Joplin, Mo.; sons Alfred Galbaugh Jr. and wife Debi of Montrose,  Colo. and Glenn Galbaugh and wife Debbie of Elk Grove; grandchildren Michele Toboada and husband John, Michael Graybill and wife Julie, Jay Smith and wife Elvia, Jennifer Smith, Traci Galbaugh, Todd Galbaugh and wife Patricia, Glenn Galbaugh Jr. and wife Meghan and Jodi Snyder and husband Rusty; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friday’s services begin at 10 a.m. in South East Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove. She will be interred in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver with her late husband.

Sandra Sanders-Shelton
Sandra Diane Sanders-Shelton of Elk Grove died March 28, 2007 at the age of 42.
Mrs. Sanders-Shelton was born June 20, 1964 in Oakland, the youngest of seven children, to Willie Lee Sanders and Daisy Smith. She grew up there, graduating from Castlemont High School in 1982.
In 1994 she moved her family to Sacramento to pursue her dream of running her own business, and became a member of Genesis Church in Sacramento. On Feb. 14, 2004 she married Keith Shelton Sr. of Elk Grove.
Mrs. Sanders-Shelton was preceded in death by her father Willie Lee Sanders and her sister Shirley Ann Sanders. The death of her sister left a nephew, La Quell Stevens, and a niece, LaShaye Stevens-Harris that Mrs. Sanders-Shelton helped raise.
She is survived by her husband Keith Shelton Sr. of Elk Grove; sons Verease Goins Jr. of San Luis Obispo and Anterion Hood of Oakland; daughter Dyeshune Hood of Elk Grove; stepchildren Keith and Charlene Shelton both of Sacramento; grandchildren Ale’janae Goins and Jakari Dumpson both of Elk Grove; and her mother Daisy Sanders of Sacramento.
Mrs. Sanders-Shelton was the sister of Willie, Anthony and Marvin Sanders of Sacramento and Melvin and Carl Sanders of Oakland. She is also survived by several godchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held April 5 at Genesis Church. Interment was in Rolling Hills Memorial Cemetery, Richmond.
Arrangements were by Thompson’s Funeral Home, Sacramento.

William Bollig
William J. (Bill) Bollig, a former resident of Sloughhouse, died Jan. 8, 2002 in Eureka at the age of 79.
Mr. Bollig was born June 16, 1922 in Iowa to Charlie and Josephine Bollig, and came to California in 1955.
In 1970 he moved to Sloughhouse, where he enjoyed raising cattle and pigs on his five acres and participating in auctions for school and church functions. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elk Grove and was also a volunteer fireman for the Sloughhouse Fire District.
Mr. Bollig served as the head custodian at James Rutter Middle School, retiring in 1988, after which he moved to Eureka. There he attended auctions, went RV’ing and volunteered at his grandchildren’s schools.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kip Bollig; his godson, Kim Virtue; his brother, Charles Bollig; and his brother-in-law, John Virtue.
Mr. Bollig is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beryl Bollig; his children, Terry Bollig, Shelley Hill and husband John, and Craig Bollig and wife Kathy; his grandchildren, Brande Wilson and husband Steve; Mark Bollig; David Bollig and wife Tanya; and his great-grandson, Davis Bollig.
He was the brother of Bernice Virtue, and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services took place Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Elk Grove.

Donald Yarnell
Donald B. (Don) Yarnell, a former longtime resident of Elk Grove, died Nov. 27, 2006 at the home of his daughter in Antioch, two days before his 79th birthday.
Mr. Yarnell was born Nov. 29, 1927 in Brea and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1945. From 1945 to 1950 he was in the Merchant Marines, and by the age of 19 had sailed around the world. He served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War.
He and his family moved to Elk Grove in the early 1960s and Mr. Yarnell went to work for Proctor and Gamble where he stayed for 28 years until retiring in 1988. His wife of 34 years, Marie died in 1989, and Mr. Yarnell moved to the Sacramento Delta area.
He is survived by his children, Arthur (Art) Yarnell and wife Rhonda of Upland, Robert Yarnell of Sacramento and Karen  Taylor and husband Leland of Antioch; and grandchildren Stephanie, Erik, Allison and Adam.
No services were held. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, Suite 115, Sacramento, CA 95815.

Raymond Gage
Raymond L. (Ray) Gage, well-known artist in Elk Grove, died May 27, 2003 at the age of 81.
"His passion in life was his art," said his family, and those who knew him recalled that he was rarely seen without a pencil and sketchbook. Even when living at Bruceville Terrace Convalescent Hospital, he was involved with art classes.
Mr. Gage was born in Sacramento and grew up there, graduating from Sacramento High School. He served in World War II as a sergeant in the U.S. Army including the Battle of the Bulge, and was decorated for his services.
He then went to college, earning both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Sacramento State College.
Mr. Gage taught art at Elk Grove High School for 23 years, "but was always an artist first and teacher second," said his son, Steve.
Following retirement he could be seen around town at the Senior Center of Elk Grove and local coffee shops, especially Bert's Diner in Sheldon, always sketching.
Mr. Gage was preceded in death by his sister, Beth Beck.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margret of Wilton; his children, David and Glenn Gage both of Portland, Ore. and Steve Gage of Wilton; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was the brother of Rev. Kenneth Gage of Cottonwood, Ariz.
Mr. Gage was a member for 48 years of Central Baptist Church now Central International Fellowship in Sacramento. Memorial services were held there May 31. Remembrances may be made to the church's building fund and mailed to 4760-16th Ave., Sacramento, CA.
Arrangements were by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.

Charles Orloff
Charles (Charlie) Orloff, a 65-year resident of Sacramento County including Elk Grove, died May 28, 2003 on his 85th birthday.
Mr. Orloff was born May 28, 1918 in Taft to Max and Edith Orloff. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Following his discharge in 1946, he went to work for the state of California where he was most proud of being a pioneer in bringing the state into the computer age. He retired after 41 years, and in retirement enjoyed the game of golf.
Mr. Orloff was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindi Orloff and sisters Esther Romm and Brenda Cywan.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Orloff of Elk Grove; his children Marc Orloff of Rohnert Park, David Orloff of Sammamish, Wash. and Sheri Steffenhagen of Sacramento; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Home of Peace Chapel. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, Suite 115, Sacramento, CA 95815; or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 160126, Sacramento, CA 95816.
Arrangements were by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.
