Elsie Mae Carpenter
April 01, 1927 - April 15, 2006
Birthplace: Alva,  Oklahoma
Resided In: Chico, California
Funeral Services for Elsie Mae Carpenter will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Neighborhood Church.
She went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at her home surrounded by her family.
Elsie was born April 1, 1927 to Earl & Rachel Bartlow in Alva,  Oklahoma.
While in the sixth grade her family moved to Missouri, and then in the eighth grade they moved to Kansas, where she graduated from high school.
She moved back to Missouri and then in 1950 she moved to  Oklahoma.
In 1957 she moved to Chico, California. September 6, 1959 she married Hal Carpenter in Chico.
Along with her husband they owned and operated numerous rental properties.
Elsie spent her time helping others. She was active for many years as a greeter and in women’s ministries at First Assembly of God Church.
In the last few years she has been a Greeter and involved at Neighborhood Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed.
Those that will miss her include her husband Hal, sons and daughters-in-law, Bob Carpenter, Eddie & Lois Leavell, Ernie & Jo Carpenter and Jimmie & Irene Leavell, daughters and sons-in-law, Lois & Robbin Edwards and Pat & Ralph Maupen, brothers, Warren “Bart” Bartlow, Duane Bartlow, Wayne Bartlow, Rex Bartlow, Victor “Vic” Bartlow and Mel Dean “Mel” Bartlow, a sister, Leta Wilson, 15 grandchilden, 26 great grandchildren and many friends.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. Memorial Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
Elsie's recipe for homemade ice cream:
6 eggs - beat until light and fluffy
2 2/3 cups sugar - add slowly to eggs
Beat 10 minutes. Add pinch of salt.
Add 1 pint heavy cream and beat 3 minutes. Add 2 quarts half & half or until the top of the paddle, and 2 tablespoons of vanilla.
Makes 1 gallon of ice cream.

Ellen Mae Swanson
June 26, 1921 - April 15, 2006

Ellen Swanson
A memorial service for Ellen Mae Swanson, 84, of Chico, will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Ellen passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Enloe Medical Center. She was born on June 26, 1921 in Montevideo, Minnesota to Floyd and Ella Baumhofer.
After graduating from St. Cloud State Teachers College in 1942, Ellen taught in Zimmerman, MN, where she met Maynard Swanson. After Maynard returned from serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, they were married, on April 20, 1946 in Montevideo.
Christ and the Church were the center of Ellen’s life. Since moving to California she was involved with and active in the leadership of women’s groups in McCloud, Mt. Shasta, Corning, and Chico. She was active in both Bidwell Presbyterian Church and Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
After Ellen moved to Sycamore Glen she actively welcomed new residents and helped them to become acclimated in the retirement community.
Survivors include her son, Roger Swanson (Linda) of Chico; daughters, Nancy Shaw of Myrtle Creek, OR, and Janella Swanson of Seattle, WA; sister, Ada Young; brother, Stan Baumhofer; granddaughters, Alyssa Reeve (Dan), Erica Swanson, Carolyn Yoder (Scott), and Beverly Shaw-Ritter (Bret); grandson, David Shaw; great granddaughter, Alexandra Swanson; and another great grandchild on the way, due on Ellen’s birthday. Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 1999.
Ellen’s inurnment service will be held at a later date, in Mt. Shasta, CA.
Memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home who are handling the arrangements.

Dianne Wylie Shook
February 19, 1943 - April 16, 2006

Resided In: Butte Valley, California
Services will be held for Dianne Wylie Shook at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2006 at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. Dianne passed away as the sun was rising on Easter Sunday after a two-year battle with ALS.
She was born on February 19, 1943 to John and Lucille Cooper in Danville, Kentucky where she grew up and met her husband Ray Shook. The couple married on April 20,1963 and settled in Morgan Hill, CA in 1984. Dianne was an aerobics dance instructor before she and her husband started Voyager Technologies, Inc, a successful business that she was office manager of for 10 years. Their life long dream of living on their own ranch was fulfilled when the couple moved to Butte Valley in 2001 and bought the Circle S Ranch. Dianne loved and spent a lot of time antiquing with her family and was known at many of the local antique stores. She enjoyed gardening on her ranch and charting her family genealogy.
Her husband Ray of Butte Valley survives her along with her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Ted Krishisky of Colbert, WA, daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Gary Darling, DVM, of Chico, 2 grandsons, Theodore Krishisky IV, Clayton Darling, and granddaughter Abigail Darling, her mother Lucille Cooper of Danville, Kentucky and her sister Kathaleen Noe of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
Memorial contributions may be made to The A.L.S. Center, UC San Francisco in care of Newton-Bracewell. Entombment will take place at Chico Memorial Mausoleum.

Evelyn Lou Morony
February 06, 1910 - April 17, 2006

Resided In: Chico, California
Evelyn Lou Morony, 96, died in Chico on April 17, 2006. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, April 29th, at the First Baptist Church, 850 Palmetto Avenue, Chico. Private burial will be in Chico Cemetery.
She was born February 6, 1910 in Sacramento to Victor and Lydia Hart. She attended school in Gerber, CA., from the first through eighth grades, and graduated from Red Bluff High School in 1926 as editor of the yearbook and class valedictorian. Her family returned to Sacramento and she attended Sacramento City College for two years, transferring to the University of California, Berkeley, where she graduated in 1930 with honors in Spanish. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Following her university education, Evelyn entered the Berkeley Baptist Divinity School (currently the American Baptist Seminary of the West) where she earned a Master of Arts degree in New Testament studies in 1933.
On March 23, 1935, she married Rev. Gregory S. Morony in Sacramento. For the next 45 years, they shared a ministry in American Baptist churches in Sacramento, Eureka, Selma and San Joaquin, California; in Bremerton,  Washington; and during World War II, in Kodiak, Alaska.
Evelyn was always active in church life, teaching Sunday School, leading youth groups, directing drama presentations, participating in women's work, arranging social and recreational church gatherings. She was a camp counselor and a camp director for American Baptist summer camping programs in  Washington State and in California. She served on the American Baptist Women's regional board in Northern California and provided leadership at the annual women's conference at Mt. Herman, CA.
In 1980, Evelyn and Gregory moved to Chico. They had developed slide shows from their U.S. and world travels which they showed to churches and local civic groups. Following her husband's death in 1984, Evelyn continued to present these shows to local groups. She also served meals at the Jesus Center, recorded cassette tapes for the blind, and volunteered at Chico Community Hospital where she was a member of the Executive Board. She served on the Board of Directors at her mobile home park.
She was very active at First Baptist Church, Chico. She was Church Historian, served on church committees and in leadership positions, and taught a Sunday morning Bible class for many years. As Social Concerns Committee chairperson at First Baptist, she led the church in collecting goods and materials for the Esplanade House when it first opened.
Evelyn's many interests included reading, writing, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, growing flowers, travel, and her family. She responded to the beauty in the natural world and drew strength and inspiration from it. She was a bright, adventurous, resourceful woman, positive and undaunted. She was always forward looking. Her faith, humor and wisdom carried her through a long, vital, and memorable life. She is remembered with gratitude and the knowledge that her influence lives on in many lives.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-Iaw, Mary Lou and Gayle Reynolds of Chico; her sons and their wives, Dr. Michael and Louise Morony of Los Angeles, and Rev. Carroll and Janet Morony of Garden City, Kansas; six grandchildren and spouses, Karen Sele, Linda Garrison, and Marcia Reynolds, all of Portland, Oregon; Sean and Kelly Morony of Newbury Park, CA., Eric and Elizabeth Morony of Los Angeles, CA, and Joy (Morony) and Collin Freeman of Shawnee, KS; six great-grandchildren, Kyla and Sean Sele, Jaron and Stefan Garrison, all of Portland, OR; and Cade and Shane Morony of Newbury Park, CA. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and his wife, Judge Jean and Phyllis Morony of Chico; their daughters, husbands and grandsons, Sally and James Potts, and Wendy and Jack Fine and their sons, Andrew and Nicholas of San Diego; and by her great-niece, Linda Hart Osgood, of Modesto.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Chico, The Esplanade House or the Jesus Center in care of Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Ellen Roney
March 21, 1917 - April 17, 2006
Birthplace: Iola, Kansas
Resided In: Chico, California
Mildred died April 17, 2006, in Chico, California.
She was born March 21, 1917 to Garfield and Dicey Heldebrant, in Iola, Kansas.
After a three-week courtship she eloped with Kerr Lester Roney.
Following her husband's jobs through several states caused them to move many, many times; and she made each one an adventure.
They finally retired in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
They were married 61 years until Kerr's death in a car crash in 2000.
She was also predeceased by her brother, Arthur; her granddaughter Kristy; her granddaughter-in-law Priscilla Schneider; and her great-granddaughter Suzanna Schneider.
She leaves her daughter, Brenda Schneider and her husband David of Chico, California; her son, John Roney and wife Shirley of Hugo,  Oklahoma; her son Larry Roney of Hesperia, California; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Mildred was a good mother, full of mischief, fun and adventure.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday April 21st at Eternal Hills Cemetery in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
