Todd Arthur Wells, age 45, passed away Sunday April 30, 2006. He was born to Arthur and Dolores Wells of Chico, May 9, 1960, the youngest of four. Survived by wife Madi; daughter Nicole; brother & sister-in-law Jeff & Jacque of Durham; brother & sister-in-law Lonny & Shellie of Paradise; brother Tim of Dayton; step-daughters Autumn & Christie; five nieces, two nephews and two step-grandsons.
He graduated from Chico High School class of 1978. Choosing concrete work as his profession and after many years of perfecting his craft, he formed Todd Wells Concrete, TWC.
His favorite sports were snow- and water-skiing and fishing. With his love for Lake Oroville and his many talents he built his own 56’ houseboat. A line in the water, enjoying the beautiful day with his wife, his life came to a sudden end. He had endured a double lung transplant due to a rare immune disorder December 2005 and was believed to be progressing nicely.
Todd believed in a handshake, his word was his bond, and his friendship was everlasting.
Services will be 10:00am Saturday May 6, 2006 at Butte Bible Fellowship Church on Pillsbury Rd. in Chico. A Celebration of Life will follow the church service 1:00pm at his home, 3362 Dry Creek Rd, Butte Valley.
In lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to Stanford Medical Center Research Fund in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, 680 Camellia Way, Chico, CA 95926.

Frances Elizabeth Hammond

Frances Elizabeth Hammond, age 85, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006 in Paradise, CA. Frances was born August 9, 1920 in South Dakota to Gustave and Marie Haase. She loved flowers and her Myer Lemon Tree and love to be in her yard. She loved to collect dolls. Frances and William Hammond her husband lived in Paradise, CA. They had 5 children and 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Frances was loved and will be missed by her family and friends. She was a member of the Paradise Alliance Church. A Memorial Service will be on Tuesday May 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Paradise Alliance Church. Arrangements were handled by Newton-Bracewell Cremation & Funeral Service of Magalia.

Lance Darrell Utterback
December 09, 1969 - May 04, 2006

Lance was born to Terry and Dean Utterback on December 9, 1969. After a courageous battle with cancer, he finally succumbed to the disease on Thursday, May 4, 2006. Lance was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He loved life and loved to serve others.
Lance served as a Chico Police Officer for the last 11 years. Prior to that, he served his country as a United States Marine and was in Desert Storm. During his time with the Chico Police Department, Lance was on the SWAT Team, Neighborhood Enforcement Team, and was a Detective. He loved his work and in March of 2003, he was awarded Police Officer of the Year. Lance loved the brotherhood he shared with his fellow police officers. He was a great friend to many.
Lance will be greatly missed by his wife, Lori, and his two children, Amber and Brian. He is also survived by his parents, Terry and Dean Utterback and his sister Molly Thomas.
A viewing will be held at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, 680 Camellia Way, Chico, from 4:30 p.m., to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2006. Services for Lance will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2430 Mariposa Avenue, Chico. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Corning, CA. Memorial Donations may be made to the Lance Utterback Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.

Pete Corado Ielati

Funeral services for Pete Ielati will be held at 11am, Friday, May 12, 2006 at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. Pete passed away, Saturday, May 6, 2006 in Chico,  Calif., at the age of 75.
Pete Attillio Corado Ielati was born on November 21, 1930 in Scido, Italy to Anthony and Giusippina Ielati. At the age of six he and his family came to America through Ellis Island. He settled in Oroville,  Calif., in 1944 where he met his wife, Donna.
Pete was a man of many trades. He was the author of, Old Mining Towns and Old Bottles. He spent time as a contractor and was a GREAT inventor and husband. He designed and built the Ielati Family Fun Park in Oroville, which he ran with his wife and family for many years.
Pete leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Donna Ielati; three sons, Anthony, Gene and Tio Ielati; four daughters, Angela Ielati, Roxan Ramick, Julianna Ielati and Jonna Smith; sister, Carmella Del Carlo of Granite Bay, Cailf.; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Darlene "Joan" Ortega
August 16, 1942 - May 07, 2006

Darlene “Joan” Ortega, 63, of Chico, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2006. She was born August 16, 1942 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Frances and Philip Hess. Joan is survived by her four children, daughter, Donielle “Raquel” Ross and husband, Rick of San Jose, CA; son, Dominic Ortega and wife, Tina of Chico, CA; sons, Darren and Damon Ortega of Fresno, CA; five grandchildren, Barry, Sari, Joshua, Ethan, and Brianne; her mother, Frances German of Chico, sister, Donna Bryan and husband, Jim of Spokane, WA; brother, Bryce Newcomb and wife, Yosh of Moses Lake, WA; sister, Jeri Cain and husband, Farell of Paradise, CA; sister, Frances Crowley and husband, Don of North Carolina; brother, Jason German of Chico; and many nieces and nephews.
After her children were born, Joan returned to college and obtained her BA, Masters Degree and LCSW license. She retired from Butte County Behavioral Health Department in 2004 after 25 years of county service. Joan traveled throughout Europe, Australia and lived in China for a year through a church sponsorship program. She loved her family, friends, and life, and enjoyed them to the fullest.
Joan was more than a wonderful mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. She was a great friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church of Chico.
Contributions in Joan’s memory may be made to Dominic Ortega for her grandchildren’s trust fund, in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home who are handling the arrangements.

Lloyd Elmer Kemplin

Lloyd E. Kemplin age 77, passed away Monday, May 8, 2006 in Paradise, CA. Lloyd was born August 4, 1928 in North Hollywood, CA to Elmer and Emma Kemplin. Lloyd love to go fishing. He loved to watch TV. He will truly be missed by family and friends. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Karen Pombo, Sharon Schweihard, Ronda Galbraith, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Service will be on Saturday May 13, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Old Magalia Historical Church in Magalia. Internment to follow service at Skyway Memorial Park in Magalia. Arrangements were handled by Newton-Bracewell Cremation and Funeral Service of Magalia.

Larry Lee Porter, Sr.

Larry Lee Porter Sr. died unexpectedly, Thursday, May 11, 2006 at his home in Durham.
He was born January 11, 1940 in Orange,  Calif. to Arthur & Beatrice Porter. Larry was also raised and educated in Orange. August 5, 1961 he married Sharon Meier and they moved to Durham,  Calif. in 1967. Larry worked for Rexnord for 19 years and then for the Durham Unified School District for 14 years.
Most important in Larry’s life was his family, spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, gardening and riding his new HARLEY.
Remembering and missing him are his wife Sharon of Durham, daughter and son-in-law, Teri Cosper-Henderson and Gary of Durham, daughter and son-in-law, Kelli Loper and Brian of Phoenix, Oregon, son and daughter-in-law, Larry Porter Jr. and Nancy of Chico, sister, Linda Taillon of Phoenix, Arizona, grandchildren, Courtney, Marki, Ariel, Lexy, Brian, Daryll, Jared, Calvin, Lindsay & Jamie.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2006 at Durham Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Durham Volunteer Fire Department in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
