Violet May Archibald
May 09, 1916 - April 10, 2007
Birthplace: Goldfield, Nevada
Resided In: Chico, California
Violet May Archibald
Violet May Archibald died peacefully of old age early on the morning of April 10, 2007, at nearly 91 years of age. Born the elder of two daughters on May 9, 1916, to Earl and Celeste Wood in Goldfield, Nevada, she spent her childhood years in Southern California and Redding where she finished high school in the brutal years of the Great Depression, and met and married her husband of nearly 66 years, John R. Archibald, who pre-deceased her in 2002 at the age of 89. Violet was a homemaker and farm wife who found pleasure and fulfillment in the life of the small family farm in Butte Valley, Siskiyou County, California. There she created a successful and nurturing home life for her husband and their only child, Clinton of Seattle,  Washington. She and John enjoyed good years of retirement, making new friends while wintering in their travel trailer at their favorite campground on the Arizona Desert and spending their summers fishing and enjoying the backcountry of Northern Nevada and Eastern Oregon. They settled in Chico in 1995 where Violet resided the last four years of her life at The Country House Senior Assisted Living Center. She grew up with a deep appreciation of books and reading, loving the classics of English literature and poetry. Her other interests centered on the necessary folk arts and skills of rural America. She canned fruit, and her family always enjoyed homemade jams and jellies. She could roll out the most perfectly round, evenly uniform piecrust. She enjoyed sewing, dabbled at watercolor painting, executed perfect cross-stitch embroidery and did exquisite huck toweling embroidery that she gave as wedding and shower presents for years. In later years, until her eyesight failed and magnification became inadequate, she was an avid stalwart of a quilting group, entertainingly called "Hens and Chicks," reflecting the wide age range of its members; she pieced quilt tops and did fastidiously perfect quilting with needle and thread, by hand. She was loved and will be intensely missed by family and friends. Interment will be on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Lawncrest Memorial Park in Redding, California, at a private graveside service for family and close friends.

Birthplace: Bakersfield, California
Resided In: Chico, California
“I am a Foreigner In My Native Land. My Strengths Paralyze Me. Winning Leaves Me Feeling Loss. I Go to Bed as the Sun Rises. When I Lie Down, I Have an Odd Fear of Falling.” From Tim Carroll’s webpage www.myspace.com/waterbro
Tim Carroll passed peacefully into the Light at home at the age of 52 on July 20, 2007.
A larger than life character, Tim was a person of many passions. He loved sailing, whitewater rafting, chess, scuba diving, public policy debate and politics, his community, and, above all, his friends and family. Mentor, guide, philosopher, healer, student and teacher, writer, seeker of adventure, truth and lover of complexity, Tim loved to create memories for others.
As Tim wrote, “I'm deeply interested in the current state of humanity, from politics to popular culture. We're on the cutting edge of evolution and are collectively responsible for everything. That which we do unto the least of us, we do unto ourselves.”
