Eugene "Gene" Elliott Kisling
December 25, 1924 - October 19, 2007

EUGENE E. KISLING
Eugene E. Kisling went to be with the Lord on Friday October 19, 2007 in Chico. He was born December 25, 1924 in Fresno, CA to Walter and Leona Kisling. The family moved to San Jose in 1930. At age 17, Gene joined the U.S. Navy where he served 4-years as an air mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1946. On July 31, 1948 he married Jeannie Reaney.
Gene attended San Jose State for 1-year and the San Francisco School of Fine Arts for another year. He later graduated from the Oakland College of Arts and Crafts. His first teaching job was in Dinuba, CA where he taught for 1-year, and then he taught at James Marshall High School in West Sacramento for 2-years. While at Dinuba and James Marshall, he taught arts and crafts and was the assistant football coach. In 1956 the family moved to Chico where Gene taught at Chico Jr. High School and then transferred to the new Bidwell Jr. High School where he taught until his retirement in 1983.
Gene enjoyed fishing and traveling. His great pride was in the art works he did at the Neighborhood Church. For 30-years he and a few others built and painted beautiful stage sets for all the Christmas and Easter productions under the leadership of Pastor Ken Backlund.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Robert. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie; a son, Richard; his sister, Betty Cavanagh and her family of Littleton, Colorado.
Memorial services will be held 2:00p.m. Saturday October 27th at Butte Bible Fellowship. Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

Myrna Lynn Gage
March 18, 1945 - October 21, 2007

“This lifetime has been a fabulous party! Sorry I had to leave so soon!”
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal services for Myrna Lynn Gage. She died, Oct. 21, 2007, at her home in Chico. She was born March 18, 1945 in Upland,  Calif. To Charles and Leta Gage.
Myrna attended Hooker Oak Elementary School, Bidwell Junior High, having served as its first student body secretary, and graduated from Castilleja School in Palo Alto.
One son, David Carmichael of Virginia, survives her as well, as two grandsons. Myrna loved truth, friends, music, beauty, animals, and the power of the written word. She pursued knowledge and education everyday of her life.

Mary Lucille Carloni
August 26, 1919 - October 21, 2007

Mary Carloni age, 88 passed away Sunday, October 21, 2007 in Magalia, California. Mary was born August 26, 1919 in Tulare, California to Joseph and Mary Bettencourt. Mary is survived by her husband Elio Carloni of Magalia, son Edward Carloni and daughter-in-law Mary A. Carloni of Magalia, granddaughter Monica Sue Standaert of Winnimucca, NV, grandson John Ed Carloni of Vacaville, CA., granddaughter, Mischelle Renee Shelley of Paradise, great grandchildren, Marie, Miralena, Miranda, Larry, James, Allen, Aaron, Gregg, Stephaney, Eddie, great-great grandchildren Sergio, Mikayla, Mathew, Jose, Mariaha. The funeral service will be on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 2:00p.m. at Old Magalia Historical Chapel at 13700 Old Skyway, Magalia. The burial will follow the service at Skyway Memorial Park. Arrangements were handled by Newton-Bracewell Cremation & Funeral Service of Paradise.

Beulah Scott Evans
May 10, 1915 - October 24, 2007

Beulah “Scottie” Evans, 92, died on October 24, 2007 at Chico Creek Care Center after a short illness.
She was born May 10, 1915, to James and Virgie Scott in Buffalo, Wyoming, where she attended school. In 1937 she graduated from Kahler School of Nursing, associated with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She spent several years as a nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and Red Cross Blood Donor Service in New York City, after which she moved to California. During WWII she was a volunteer nurse at Merchant Marine Center in Pacific Palisades, and also did private nursing during that time. In 1946 she met and married Edmund “Doc” Evans. Their son, Eddie, was born in 1953. Scottie was a nurse at St. John’s and Santa Monica Hospital until retiring and moving to Paradise in 1977.
Scottie was proficient in pine needle weaving and basketry, and she taught that craft to many who enjoy it today. Quilting was another favorite hobby and she enjoyed groups such as The Friday Needlers and All Thumbs Crafters. She loved to garden and had a yard full of roses. She had a special greenhouse for another special hobby: orchids!
She and her husband and son were world travelers. They enjoyed fly-fishing, especially at Henry’s Lake in Idaho, where Scottie became an expert at tying a fly!
Scottie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clifford and Bernard, and her husband. She is survived by her son Edmund “Eddie” of Chico, many loving nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors. Scottie will be sorely missed by all.
Funeral services for Scottie will be held at 1p.m., Monday, October 29, 2007 at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. Private burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica,  Calif.

Kenneth George Johnson

Captain Ken G.  Johnson passed away at Enloe Hospital. Ken was a retired Captain for Federal Express, previously flying for Flying Tiger Line. Ken enjoyed motor home trips, garden railroading, traveling, and most of all flying. He is survived by his wife Linda, daughters Melissa Maxine, Holly Kathleen, April Ann, and his son Kenny Jr. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Northern California Burn Foundation, in care of Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home. No services will be held.

Everett "Spence" Lewis
February 28, 1934 - October 27, 2007

Everett “Spence” Lewis
Everett “Spence” Lewis passed away Oct. 27, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He was 73. Born to Jacob and Carrie Nelson Lewis, Feb. 28, 1934 in Indiana. He spent much of his early years in Ohio, moving to Florida as a teenager. He enlisted in the US Air Force at 17 after the start of the Korean War. He served from 1951-1955 when he was honorably discharged. Spence met his wife of almost 50 years, Carol Jolley, in Stonyford. They were married Dec. 21, 1957 at Carol’s grandparent’s home on the Honeyrun.
He was employed by Diamond Match in, Stonyford, Red Bluff, Stirling City, Chico Molding, Butte Pump, PG&E in DeSabla and retired from Glenn Colusa Irrigation District in Glenn County after 17 years. The Lewis’ moved back to Stirling City where Spence lived until his illness. Spence enjoyed animals, friends, shooting, fishing, motorcycles, 4-wheeling in his old Land Cruiser and traveling in his R.V. Spence is survived by his wife, Carol, two sisters, Juanita Ellis and Ellen Jadrick, his father and mother in-law, Sam and Daisy Jolley, his brother and sister-in-law, Gregg and Walterina Jolley, many nieces and nephews and loving friends. A Graveside service will be on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 11:00a.m. at Stirling City Cemetery at 7687 Mica St. The next day Saturday Nov. 3, 2007 at 3:00p.m. will be a Memorial Service at the Assembly of God church at 17059 Manzanita St. in Stirling City. There will be a gathering of family and friends after the memorial services at Brown Church Meeting Hall at 17135 Manzanita St. in Stirling City In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial contributions maybe made to the Stirling City Historical Society, P.O. Box 6 Stirling City, CA to fund a logging and sawmill exhibit at the museum. Arrangements were handled by Newton-Bracewell Cremation & Funeral Service of Paradise.

Virginia Lucille Mazy
August 06, 1918 - October 28, 2007

Virginia Lucille Schellenberg was born in Los Angeles, CA. on June 6, 1918. She graduated from Oceanside High School in 1936 as Valedictorian of her class. She later attended Woodbury College of Business.
She worked at Camp Callen during WWII, where she met her husband who was a career Army/Air Force Officer. She worked as a Business Manager until she retired. After retirement she taught adults to read. She was past President of Soroptomist in San Carlos, CA, and an active member of the Chico Newcomers Club for many years.
Virginia was a breast cancer survivor. She is survived by: daughter Barbara  Jackson of Mineral, CA.; grandson Shaun O’Dell and wife Emily Prince of San Francisco, CA; and grandson Jerry Cloud and wife Lejla of New York, cousins Bob Cramer, Buzz Cramer, Karen Simmons and Chris Cramer.
A celebration of Life Service will be held on November 8, 2007 at 10 am, at Music Express Inn, 1145 El Monte Ave., Chico, CA for more information please call (530) 595-3397. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Breast Cancer in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
