Donald “Don” E. Hendrix

Feb. 28, 1946 - Dec. 14, 2004

Donald “Don” E. Hendrix, 59, died on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at his home in Plymouth.

Mr. Hendrix was born on Feb. 28, 1946 to Bill and Sarah (Little) Owens in Salinas. His family moved to Ione in 1954 and that is where he grew up.

Donald was a veteran serving in the U. S. Navy from 1963 until 1972. He worked 32 years as an electrician for Owens Illinois/Unimin in Ione. He loved spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and teaching his grandson Brett to ride the four-wheeler. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and being with numerous friends, no matter what the occasion.

Donald made Amador County his home for 51 years and the last 27 of those years were spent in the Plymouth area.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Etta Hendrix of Plymouth; daughter and son-in-law, Kate and Shawn Moody of Plymouth; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lane Hendrix of Ione; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Marie Hendrix of Plymouth; sisters, Sandi Bassett of Stockton, Doris Buell of Sutter Creek; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and Mark Cornell of Jackson, Debbie and Neil Swann of Plymouth; grandchildren, Bree, Rase and Brett all of Ione; aunt, Ruby Cox of Fall River Mills, George Harris of Pasco, Wash., Jenny Franklin and uncle Tim Meiers of Eagle Point, Ore.; uncles, Jesse David Little of Anderson, Jim Owens of Vacaville; uncle and aunt, Lester and Luella Owens of Anderson; niece, Rebecca Gruenwald and her husband, Eric of Pioneer; numerous nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah O. Hendrix-Buell in June 2004, father, Bill Owens on Nov. 11, 2003, step-fathers, James A. Hendrix on Dec. 27, 1972 and Albert Buell on Nov. 6, 2002.

Visitation will take place on Friday, Dec. 17 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in Jackson. Interment will be in the Garden of Golden Memories at Sunset View Cemetery in Martell. Arrangements have been entrusted to Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

Herman Leroy Hartwig

Herman Leroy Hartwig, 66, died on Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 at Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch.

Mr. Hartwig was born on Feb. 28, 1938 in Martinez.

There will be a private family burial held in the Tranquility Garden at Sunset View Cemetery in Martell at a future date. Arrangements have been entrusted Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

Betty Lee Burke

Betty Lee Burke, 79, of Pioneer, died at her home on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004. She was born on Nov. 8, 1925 in San Francisco.

Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, Dec. 20 at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Pioneer. Arrangements were entrusted to McCrory’s Funeral Home in Pine Grove.

Memorial contributions may be made to the A-PAL Humane Society, P.O. Box 190,  Jackson 95642.

Theodore “Ted” Croghan

Theodore “Ted” Croghan, 79, died on Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 at his home in Rancho Murieta.

Mr. Croghan was born on Aug. 4, 1925 in Orland.

At the family’s request, there will be no service. Inurnment will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

Hoffman H. Siebe

Dec. 28, 1912 - Dec. 18, 2004

Hoffman H. Siebe, 91, died on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson.

Mr. Siebe was born on Dec. 28, 1912 to Henry and Lena Siebe in Sacramento and later graduated from Sutter Creek High School. Hoffman, a registered pharmacist, owned and operated  Jackson Drug Store for four decades until his retirement in 1998. He hired high school students to work with him in the pharmacy and was very influential in their lives, many of them continuing on to obtain degrees in pharmacy and medicine. His true legacy will be the support and direction he gave those young people. The California Pharmacists Association awarded him an honorary lifetime membership for his 50 years of service.

He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Rotarian, a member of the Angels Gun Club and the Truesportsmans Gun Club.

With a zest for life, Hoffman always had time for conversation and a huge circle of friends. He loved going to Hawaii and playing Keno in the casinos. He also enjoyed trap shooting, salmon fishing, Pall Mall cigarettes and Cutty Sark with soda. His warm smile and friendly demeanor will be missed. Hoffman’s many friends would like to thank Dr. Robert Hartmann and the staff of  Jackson Gardens for their care and kindness in his final years.

He is survived by his nieces, Susan McKittrich of Alamo, Peggy Grant of Oakley; sister-in-law, Bette Daft of Sacramento. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Elinor Siebe in September of 1984 and his sister, Augusta Day.

The funeral service will take place on Thursday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in Jackson. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Jackson. Arrangements are being entrusted to Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Amador Senior Foundation, 229 New York Ranch Road,  Jackson 95642. Condolences may be offered to the family at danerimortuary@sbcglobal.net.

Marie “Nonnie” Malnburg

Oct. 17, 1923 - Nov. 15, 2004

Marie “Nonnie” Malnburg, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 15, 2004 at Elysium in Amador Pines.

Mrs. Malnburg was born on Oct. 17, 1923 in Utah, the daughter of Elsa and William Darcy. She was the youngest of 21 children.

She and her husband, Edward, moved to Pioneer in 1974 where together they built their dream home “Elysium” in Amador Pines.

In 1975, she started her own successful Real Estate business, “Mother Nature’s Estates” and retired from there in 1990. She also took on the task as secretary for the Amador Pines Homeowner’s Association for 10 years.

She leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Edward Malnburg, Sr., of Amador Pines; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Kathy Malnburg, Jr., of Pioneer; daughters, Cheri Carter of Pioneer, Melody Acherman of River Bank; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Marie was a beautiful wife, loving mother and grandmother, who filled our lives with love and joy. She will live in our hearts forever.

At her request, there was no service. Arrangements were entrusted to Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

William McKirdy Copland

Jan. 31, 1916 - Dec. 20, 2004

William McKirdy Copland, 88, returned to his Heavenly Father and to join his wife, on Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 in St. George, Utah.

Mr. Copland was born on Jan. 31, 1916, in San Francisco, a son of William and Sarah Ferguson Copland. He grew up there and married Emily May Cull on Sept. 27, 1939.

William worked as a dairyman in San Francisco until he retired and moved to Ione in 1970.

After the loss of his wife, he then moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho and later to St. George, Utah where he was living at the time of his passing.

He is survived by his son, Walter (Jeanne) Copland of Tumwater, Wash.; daughter, Gloria (David) Lively of St. George, Utah; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years; a brother; sister; and one grandchild.

Memorial service will be held at a later date in Bodega Bay. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah.
