Richard “Dick” Mumbower
Sept. 17, 1931 - March 29, 2005
Born Howard Richard “Dick” Mumbower, 73, died of cancer on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Palo Alto.
Mr. Mumbower was born on Sept. 17, 1931 in Illinois.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Prior to moving to Amador County, he lived in the Bay Area where he sold real estate and cars.
For the last three years, he was a resident at Rollingwood Estates. He suffered from macular degeneration for many years and spoke very fondly of the friendly atmosphere and how helpful all his neighbors were. They were always willing to go out of their way to help him.
Dick was a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 16 years. He will be missed.
He is survived by daughters, Lisa Gibbs of Pioneer and Kimberly Harris and her husband Richard of Salida; five grandchildren, Amanda and Joseph Gibbs; and Amy, Kyle and Tyler Harris; brother, Ronald Mumbower and his wife Dorie of Oregon.
At his request, no service will be held. The family would like to thank all the caring staff at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto where he passed away peacefully.
Arrangements are being handled by Bay Area Cremation and Funeral Services in Redwood City.
William Robert Dunn
Nov. 7, 1925 - April 3, 2005
William Robert Dunn, 79, of Pioneer, died on Sunday, April 3, 2005 in Sacramento.
Mr. Dunn was born on Nov. 7, 1925 in Forsythe, Mont.
He was an adventurous soul with a colorful life, which included riding the rails across country, traveling on the Al-Can Highway when it was still a dirt road and serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked in the home maintenance business in Southern California then moved to the Sacramento area with his wife, Elizabeth, after the birth of their grandson Rusty in 1983. He was fondly referred to as “Rusty’s favorite toy.”
In 1989, he and Elizabeth made their home in Pioneer. He was a voracious reader and will be remembered for his love of animals and children. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. His father was born in Belfast Ireland, and was an “Orangeman” per himself.
He is survived by wife, Elizabeth Dunn of Pioneer; children, Janet Callaway and her husband Glenn of Pioneer, David Edwards and long time companion Milly Burnett of Sacramento; grandchildren, Amy Doyle of New York City, N.Y., Sarah Edwards, Rusty Callaway and his wife Amanda of Ridgecrest, sisters, Barbara Ingram and husband Ivan of Woodland, Arlene Campbell of Des Moines, Wash., Virginia Dunn of Manchester, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Loretta Dunn, Dorothy “Dot” Martin, Donna Christensen and brother, Jack Dunn, all of Washington.
Graveside service will take place on Friday, April 8 at 10 a.m. at Amador Memorial Cemetery
in Pioneer. Interment will follow. Arrangements are being handled by McCrory’s Funeral Home in Pine Grove.

Julie (Vasilovich) Vukajlovich
May 2, 1919 - March 31, 2005
Julie (Vasilovich) Vukajlovich, 85, entered into rest on Thursday, March 31, 2005 in Sacramento.
Mrs. Vukajlovich was born on May 2, 1919 in Jackson. She attended grammar school and high school in Jackson.
After graduation, she lived her entire life in Sacramento and worked in the finance department for the State of California at the capitol and retired from there.
She was an outstanding tennis player in high school and an avid golfer throughout her life. She was also a member of the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Assumption which she attended religiously.
She is survived her husband Bill Vukajlovich; her loving son, Stan; granddaughters, Claire and Dana; sister, Sophie Ratkovich; brothers, Stan and his wife Shirley and Evo and his wife Josie; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7 from 3 to 7 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park in Rancho Cordova Mortuary.
A Trisagian/Pomen service will take place on Thursday, April 7, at 6 p.m. at the same location.
Funeral will be held on Friday, April 8 at 1 p.m. at the Chapel at East Lawn Memorial Park, 43rd and Folsom Blvd. in Rancho Cordova. Arrangements are being handled by East Lawn Mortuary in Rancho Cordova.

Harry “Glenn” Smith Jr.
March 12, 1922 - April 20, 2005
Harry “Glenn” Smith Jr., 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Jackson Gardens in Jackson.
Mr. Smith was born on March 12, 1922 in Monmouth, Ill., to Harry and Hazel Smith. He moved to Long Beach in 1936.
He joined the Navy in 1942, serving as a qualified salvage diver on the USS Cable in the Asiatic Pacific area. He participated in three invasions and was awarded two letters of commendation and one naval unit commendation.
On Jan. 17, 1943, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Glenn married the love of his life, Edith Dietze. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945, the couple moved to Los Angeles and Glenn began working for Edy Manufacturing as a cabinet maker. In 1952, he moved to Volcano and established a partnership with Jim and Janice Welch in the ownership of Volcano Telephone Company. He served as vice president of that company until 1989.
He served on the Pine Grove Community Service District Board of Directors, the Amador County Planning Commissioner from 1966 to 1970; District 3 Amador Board of Supervisor from 1970 to 1978; one of the founding fathers of the Bank of Amador established in November 1983 and served as a director until 1999.
He enjoyed boating and RVing with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith Smith of Pine Grove; daughter, Susan and husband Jay Lucke of Sutter Creek; son, Richard and wife Leslie Smith of Pine Grove; six grandchildren, Jeff and Kathi Lucke of Rocklin, Deborah Peterson of Hayden, Idaho, Chris Lucke of Jackson, Tim and Natasha Lucke of Rancho Murieta, Lindsay Smith of Sacramento and Kimberly Smith of Folsom; 10 great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Mitchell and Michelle Peterson; Brian, Kyle, Keely, Jayce, Julianna and Rebecca Lucke. He was preceded in death by his brother John Smith and sister Janice Welch and baby sister, Lucille Smith.
Visitation took place on Monday, April 25 at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.
The funeral was held on Tuesday, April 26 at the same location. Interment was at Sunset View Cemetery
in Martell. Arrangements were handled by Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.
