Paula M. Ortner Vollmer died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005 at her daughter’s home in Ione at the age of 80 years.

She was born May 28, 1925 in Belgium.

A private graveside service will be held. Interment will be in the Garden of Golden Memories at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson.

Condolences may be offered to the family at danerimortuary@sbcglobal.net.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

Mildred D. Hughes

Mildred D. Hughes died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005 in  Jackson at the age of 85 years. She was born Oct. 11, 1920 in Indian Springs.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005 at Marysville First Christian Church in Marysville.

Interment was in the Penn Valley Cemetery in Penn Valley.

Condolences may be offered to the family via e-mail at danerimortuary@sbcglobal.net.

Arrangements were entrusted to Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

Margaret Kathryn Halleran

Margaret Kathryn Halleran died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, in  Jackson at the age of 66 years. She was born Sept. 10, 1939 in San Mateo.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be offered to the family via e-mail at danerimortuary@sbcglobal.net. Arrangements are being entrusted to Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

Bernadette L. Templeton

July 17, 1935 - Oct. 24, 2005

Bernadette L. Templeton died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 at her home in Pioneer at the age of 70 years. She was born July 17, 1935 to Joseph and Lillian (Bartin) Lopes in San Leandro. She worked 21 years as a security officer for Mervyn?s warehouses. Bernadette was an avid bingo player, enjoyed crocheting, making crafts and Jose?s Mexican dinners. She enjoyed water skiing, boating and camping. Bernadette loved people and was always helping others and giving gifts. She loved the Christmas holiday and family gatherings. She treated her children?s dogs, Buster Brown, Astro and Miss Rosie, as if they were her grandchildren, making sure they received gifts as well. Bernadette made Amador County her home for the past four years.ÿ

She is survived by her children, Robin Emmett and husband Steven of Pioneer and Robert Templeton of San Lorenzo; grandson, Robbie Templeton, Jr. of Georgetown, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the people at Hospice of Amador County and St. Theresa Cancer Center in Stockton.ÿÿÿ

At the family?s request there will be no public services. Inurnment will be in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hayward. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amador County, P.O. Box 595, Jackson, 95642.ÿ

Jessie E. Gillum

June 29, 1914 - Oct. 23, 2005

Jessie E. Gillum, ?Grandma Mimi,? 91, of Arroyo Grande, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005.

Jessie was born in Rhonerville on June 29, 1914. A 22-year resident of Arroyo Grande, she resided in the Sunrise Terrace Mobile Home Park. She was a member of Grace Bible Church in Arroyo Grande, where she taught Sunday school and attended Bible study. She had previously lived in Carmel for 20 years where she attended the Methodist Church. Prior to that, Jessie attended the Methodist Church in Ione, where she had been co-owner with her husband, Lester Gillum, of a local market and dry goods store. She was a member of Native Daughters of California.

A caregiver of many, Jessie was a wonderful homemaker, expert cook and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Jessie is survived by her children, Michael Sullivan and wife, Norma Jean, of Ione and Patricia Yarrington and husband, Halsey Joel Yarrington Jr., of Arroyo Grande; brothers, Milton Walker of Cloverdale and James Walker of Grass Valley; grandchildren, Katie Steinberger, Kelly Hines, Jessie Turner, Jennifer Griffith and Michael Eric Sullivan; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Gillum; brother, Wesley Walker; and sister, Helene Walker-Bradreau.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Oct. 27, at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast, 277 South Street; Ste. R, San Luis Obispo, 93401; or to St. Joseph?s Indian School, Chamberlain, SD, 57326.

Arrangements were under the direction of Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach.

Roger Mark Manzo

Nov. 7, 1940 - Oct. 11, 2005

Roger Mark Manzo, 64, died Oct. 11, 2005 at his home. He died from complications of being a quadriplegic.

Roger was born Nov. 7, 1940 at  White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles. He was in the Army, 82nd Airborne, stationed in Germany.

He is survived by his wife, Janice, of 27 years of marriage. He has a daughter, Megan, her husband Chanin. Roger also has a brother and a sister-in-law, Charlie and Lesa Manzo of West Hills. Two kids, Stephanie and Chris Manzo of Wildomar and five grandchildren.

Roger has been cremated. He requested no services, but on Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. there will be a ?Celebration of Life.?

Thelma Odina Stephens

April 9, 1916 - Oct. 7, 2005

Thelma Odina Stevens, 89, died Oct. 7, 2005 at Kit Carson Nursing Home in Jackson.

Thelma was born to Odin and Thea (Knutson) Oliason on the family farm southwest of Guelph, N.D., on April 9, 1916. She attended rural schools there and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1932. She entered the St. John's School of Nursing in Fargo, N.D., and became a registered nurse in 1937.

Thelma worked as a private nurse in Fargo for a few years and then moved to California where Ray worked as a millwright in the steel industry.

Ray died on July 17, 1995 while they were on their way back to North Dakota. Ray and Thelma had been married for 54 years.

Thelma continued to make her home in Plymouth for the past 33 years, until she entered the Kit Carson Nursing Home in  Jackson this past Spring.

She was an active member of the Sutter Creek United Methodist Church and also of the United Methodist Women's group. She was active in school activities while her daughters were being educated.

Thelma was a devoted wife and mother, loving sister and missionary to anyone needing help. She loved to garden, raise flowers, crochet, knit and sew. She always looked forward to the annual visit of ?back home? to the Guelph community and never lost track of a single old friend from her childhood days.

Grateful to have shared her life are two daughters, Thea Blackwood of Vacaville and Venita (Joel) Porter of Allen Park, Mich.; four grandsons; three great-grandsons; sister, Bernice Rollo of Frederick, S.D.; sister in law Jean Bernsten of Guelph, N.D.; five nephews, four nieces and best friend, Fern Niles of Fargo, N.D.

A memorial service will be held Nov. 6, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Sutter Creek United Methodist Church in Sutter Creek. Dessert and coffee will follow the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sutter Creek United Methodist Church or to the mission of the contributor's choosing.
