Worth Sanford

Worth Sanford, 86, died on Monday, May 26, 2003, at his home in Jackson.

Mr. Sanford was born on Sept. 12, 1916, to Lemuel and Katie Sanford in Mt. View, Okla.

He worked 62 years in the lumber industry in both El Dorado and Amador Counties and was a member of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Local 2927.

He was a sawyer for many years for both American Forest Products and the Bendix Corporation and retired from there on Aug. 1, 1980.

While at the Martell mill, he held the record for sawing the most board feet for any eight hour shift at the mill.

He enjoyed fishing and camping and being with his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Betty L. Kearns of Harrisburg, Ill., Suzi  Johnson of Lodi, Katie Pedretti of  Jackson and Jacqueline Little of Colma; grandchildren, John Kearns, Jr., Scott Kearns, Jeffrey Kearns, Raymond Iaca, Isaac Iaca, Susie Livesey, Bret Stone, Larry Forst, Laurie Ramirez, Ashley Little, Morgan Little and Justine Little; 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleta Jane Sanford in 1990 and his brother, James Adrian Sanford,

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at Mt, Zion Assembly of God in Pine Grove.

Inurnment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

John Michel Saner

John Michel Saner, 54, entered into rest May 24, 2003 in Ione, his home of 50 years.

Mr. Saner was born Sept. 19, 1948, in Sacramento.

John entered the U.S. Army in 1969, served 18 months in Germany and while there, was selected into a sharp shooters rifle team that competed against other battalions.

He was employed by Interpace Corporation in Ione for 33 years and for 25 of those years was an electrician.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren, working with machinery as well as fishing and hunting with friends.

He is survived by his daughter and son in-law, Corrina and Rob  Jackson of Galt; mother, Jessie Saner; sisters, Jan Landberg, Virginia and Frank Costa, all of Ione; grandchildren, Kelsea, Josh and Ryan as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Arnold J. Saner.

Visitation will be held on Thursday May 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

The funeral service will take place on Friday, May 30 at 10 a.m. at the same location.

Interment will be in the family plot at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 6700 21st Ave., in Sacramento.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Chester “Chet” Reid Dupree

Chester “Chet” Reid Dupree, 82, former Pioneer resident, passed away on Aug. 2, 2003, in Sacramento after a lengthy illness.

He was born on April 5, 1921, in Memphis, Tenn.

Chet graduated from North Phoenix High School and soon after, joined the U.S. Navy.

He was at Pearl Harbor stationed on a destroyer, the USS Hulbert when the Japanese attacked on Dec. 7, 1941.

His ship later went to the Aleutian Islands.

He was sent back to officer’s training at Northern Arizona University and the University of New Mexico.

Chet and Marguerite Gormley were married while he was attending the University of New Mexico.

They moved to Colorado and were working on a farm when he was called back into the Navy for the Korean War.

After he was discharged, they moved to Arizona where he received his teaching credentials and began a long career as a high school and junior high teacher of science and mathematics.

The desire to have a farm had led them to Nebraska where Chet raised pigs while also teaching.

They had a 100 year-old house and 80 acres.

After three summers spent in Laramie, Wyo. while Chester got his masters degree in physics and chemistry, the Duprees moved briefly to Albuquerque, N.M., then on to Antioch in 1969.

Chet taught and played lots of golf in Antioch.

Upon retiring from teaching, Chester and Marguerite settled in Pioneer for a number of years where they both sold real estate and enjoyed life in the foothills.

He was an accomplished wood sculptor and reading was also one of his favorite activities.

A trip to Ireland, England and Scotland was a special highlight for the couple.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marguerite Durpree, five children and eight grandchildren; Barbara Dupree of Vineyard Haven, Mass., and her two children, Joshua Elsasser and Jessica Elsasser; Thomas Dupree of Rancho Murieta; Diane and James Dupree Dempsey of Oakdale, and their two children, Alexandra and Thomas; James and Mary Dupree of Carmichael, and children Matthew and Elizabeth; William and Lauri Dupree of Cameron Park and children Michelle and Robert; brother, Dr. Henry Dupree of Walnut Creek and many other loving relatives.

Chet was cherished as a father, husband, friend and educator.

He will be missed by all those that knew him.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. at the clubhouse at Murieta Village, 14751 Poncho Conde Circle in Rancho Murieta.

All are welcome.

Private Inurnment will be at the National Veteran Cemetery in Gustine.

Arrangements are being handled by the All Faith Crematorium of the North Sacramento Funeral Home, 725 El Camino Ave., Sacramento.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to The Wanderer of the Sacramento Library.

Ruben Gabriel Tellez

Ruben Gabriel Tellez, 20, died on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 in Roseville.

He was born on March 30, 1983 in Fountain Valley.

Ruben worked for a year as a server at Thunder Valley Casino.

He liked music, rap, playing the piano and talking to people.

Upon his death Ruben was a bone and tissue donor.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Marilyn and Daniel Robinson of Jackson; father, Randall Tellez of Orange County; sisters, Monique Anne Perez of Orange County and Serena Tellez; grandparents, Samuel and Susan Moreno of Twentynine Palms, Mary Tellez of Orange County and Jean I. Robinson. He was the nephew of Robert Tellez, Ronnie Tellez, Richard Tellez and Bonnie Tellez, all of Orange County; and aunts, uncles and cousins of the Moreno family of Twentynine Palms.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Chapel in Pine Grove.

Inurnment will be private.

Arrangements are being handled by Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Chapel Youth Department, 18400 Ridge Road, Pine Grove 95665.

Gladys Russell

Gladys Russell, 77, died on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 in Jackson.

Mrs. Russell was born on Nov. 21, 1925 in Shanghai, China.

In 1948 she married Earl Russell then worked for Pacific Bell as a telephone operator in the Oakland and Pleasanton areas from 1949 and retired from there in 1985. Gladys lived in Dublin from 1960 until she moved to Pleasanton in 1967.

After her retirement, she moved to Amador County and made her home here for the past 18 years.

She enjoyed drawing, painting, traveling and sewing.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Earl Russell of Pine Grove; sister, Barbara Fernandez of Dublin; granddaughter and her husband, Christina L. and Ted Momen of Bell, Mo., and great-grandchildren, William, Joseph, Jacob and Susan Momen, all of Bell, Mo. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Curtis and brother, Donald McGregor.

A private family service will be held. Inurnment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.
