Mary Moreno Puppo
Mary Moreno Puppo, a lifelong resident of the Santa Clara Valley, died March 11, 2004, following a long illness.
Mary Moreno was born in Santa Clara. As a child she moved to Morgan Hill with her parents, who were immigrants from Spain. She attended Burnett Elementary School and Live Oak High School. After graduation she became a buyer for the Sears Department Store in San Jose.
Mary Puppo and her husband, Victor, were farmers in the Coyote area, where they had orchards of prunes, pears and apricots for more than 50 years. They also enjoyed a residence in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. She was a charter member of the Riverside Golf Club and served several terms as president of the Women’s Golf Club. Over the years she was involved in many activities and enjoyed organizing numerous charity golf tournaments, but the main focus of her life was her family.
Mary Puppo celebrated her 80th birthday on Christmas Eve.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Victor C. Puppo; children Vickie (David) Leutz and Richard J. Puppo; grandchildren John Dauberg, Richard V. Puppo, Brian Puppo and Lindsay Ann Leutz; and great-grandsons Nicholas and Jack Dauberg.
She was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Moreno and the sister of the late John R. Moreno and Ann Bonaccorso.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, March 17, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church under direction of Johnson Funeral Home. A committal service followed at Oak Hill Cemetery
in San Jose.
Eliseo Garcia Corrales
Eliseo Garcia Corrales died March 10, 2004.
Eliseo, originally from San Antonio, Texas, moved to the Bay Area in 1972, later settling in Morgan Hill.
He was the loving father of Janie and her husband Armando Torres, Rosalinda Corrales, Robert Corrales and Sylvia and her husband Julio Velasquez; grandfather of Yolanda Martinez, Vivian Martinez Armando Torres Jr., Aaron Russell Torres, Rodney (Maria) Villarreal, Michelle (Lorenzo) Ochoa, John Greg Rodriguez, Stephanie Rodriguez, Gabriel Anthony Ortega, Elizabeth Corrales, Robert Corrales Jr., Robert Corrales III, Nicky Renee Corrales, Cristiane Corrales, Rose (Carlos) Castaneda, Samantha (Carlos) Casteneda Jr., Julie (Mike) Alejos, Mathew, Christian, Mark Alejos, Julian (Dianza) Velasquez, Destiny (Amanda) Velasquez, Diane (Ruben) Mermea, Tiffany (Ruben) Mermea, Jr.; great-grandfather of Nathen (Samera) Villarreal, Chrisphter, Christina Castillo, Brook Ashlyn Ochoa, Isac, Zirene Johndrea Rodriquez, Josiah Rodriquez and Amaris Guerra, Destiny (Jesse) Corrales; brother of John Corrales; and longtime companion of Margaret Leahy. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 15, at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy.
Jennie Perreira
Jennie Perreira died in Morgan Hill on March 16, 2004. She was born May 5, 1928, in Youngstown, Ohio.
She was the loving wife of Freeman Perreira of Morgan Hill; dear mother of Susan Perreira of Modesto, Julie Pusateri and son-in-law Nick of Morgan Hill and Rebecca Bruffy of Modesto; dear grandmother of Jonathan, Nicholas and Daniel Pusateri of Morgan Hill and Amy Bruffy of Modesto; and loving sister of Evelyn Mills of Alameda.
She was a retired registered nurse and an alumna of San Jose Hospital. She graduated from nursing school in 1949.
Vigil Service takes place at 4 p.m. today, March 19, at Johnson Funeral Home, with visitation at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass takes place Saturday, March 20, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine Church. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy.
The family asks that any donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Cancer Society.
Stephanie Hurtado
Stephanie Hurtado died Saturday, March 13, 2004, in Gilroy after a lengthy illness. She was 25.
Stephanie was a graduate of San Andreas High School and Gavilan College. Upon completion of studiest at Gavilan, she entered her career as a teacher’s assistant at San Martin Child Development Program for Santa Clara County. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Hollister and The Rock Church in Morgan Hill.
“She enjoyed life and being with family, going to the beach, dancing, watching sunsets and traveling,” her husband said.
She is survived by her husband Aldo Hurtado, of Hollister; parents Refugio and Minerva Franco, also of Hollister; parents-in-law Aureliano and Eva Hurtado; grandmother Minerva Garcia, of Gilroy; brothers Jose and Jaime Garcia; sisters-in-law Gaby Vallejo, Monica Ford and Lorena Scalmanini, all of Hollister; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass was Thursday at St. Benedict’s Church in Hollister. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home in Hollister.
Troy Martin Jacobson
Troy Martin Jacobson died March 12, 2004, in Chicago Ill. He was 39.
Formerly a resident of Morgan Hill, Jacobson had lived in Clancy, Mo., for the past nine years working as a truck driver. He was a member of the Harley Owner’s Group, ABATE, and the Montana Police Association.
He is survived by his wife, Jill of Clancy, Mo.; daughter Katrina Briann Jacobson of Helena, Mont.; brother Jay (Karin) Jacobson; sisters Julie (Mario) Gutierrez and Vicki Jacobson (Mark Apolinar); and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Monday at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, Downers Grove, Ill.
Donald Raymond Peterson
Donald Raymond Peterson died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002. He was 79.
A resident of Morgan Hill for 18 years, Peterson was born August 26, 1923, in Valley, Neb. He moved to California with his parents in 1934 and graduated from San Jose High School. During World War II he served in the Coast Guard and was honorably discharged in 1945. He then enrolled at San Jose State and upon graduating, began a 31-year career in education with his one and only employer, San Jose Unified School District. He was an elementary school teacher, vice principal and led Hester and later Washington Elementary Schools as principal.
He retired in 1980 and began volunteer work with the San Jose Police Department and continued to be an avid sports fan. Upon moving to Morgan Hill in 1984, he became an active member of the San Martin Presbyterian Church, where he did volunteer work and was in the choir.
Peterson is survived by his wife Mary Peterson; sons Cliff Peterson and his fiancé Lovinia of San Jose, David Peterson and his wife Mary Ellen of Morgan Hill, Eric Peterson and his wife Janet of Shoreline, Wash., and Jim Peterson and his wife Annette of Pleasanton; his sister Doris Worthington of Groveland; grandchildren Kim Chavez, Jeff, Matthew, Andrew, Emily, Eric, Stephen and Sarah Peterson and Anna Marie Palermo; and great grand children Brandon Peterson, Jaden Chavez and Harley Bahre-Palermo.
A memorial service will be held at the San Martin Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Jan. 12.

Deborah June Ondriezek
Deborah June Ondriezek died March 11, 2004, at Los Gatos Community Hospital, with her husband, children, family and friends at her side.
Deborah June Burke, known as Debbie to her friends and family, was born on July 27, 1957, to Lorraine and John in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Debbie attended elementary school in Aracata for three years and finished grade school in San Jose. She graduated from Pioneer High School in 1975. Debbie attended San Jose State and graduated with a bachelor’s of science in speech pathology and audiology in 1979. Debbie achieved her master’s degree in 1981.
She loved jazz dance and according to her brother Dan, she was the last of the disco queens. She just loved disco music. In high school and college, Debbie was a vibrant part of McJunken Dance Studio’s senior group - the head teacher of the studio took them out to entertain various organizations. Debbie sewed all of her own costumes for the recitals.
Debbie met the love of her life, David Ondriezek at The Parlor in Campbell in 1980. They got married on Sept. 20, 1986.
During the following years, at hospitals and clinics throughout the Santa Clara county, Debbie worked with children and people with head injuries. She was a fabulous speech therapist who helped many people overcome speech problems due to head injuries and strokes.
Her first child, Matthew, was born in 1990 with her daughter, Monica following in 1992. Debbie and her kids were very active in the local Las Madres group and later in the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Debbie loved to take pictures and her photo albums were her expression for her love for life. She also loved arts and crafts - family members will always cherish the many handmade gifts they received at Christmas and on birthdays over the years.
Debbie was a member of South Valley Community Church where she attended services and Bible studies.
Debbie is survived by her husband, David; son Matthew; daughter Monica; sister Danita, twin brother Daniel, and brothers John, Jerry and mother Lorraine.
Debbie was preceded in death in 1990 by her father John.
Services were Wednesday, March 17, at South Valley Community Church in Gilroy. Burial was at Gavilan Hills Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
A fund has been established for the children at Wells Fargo Bank, 273 E. Tenth St., Gilroy.
