Rodney Gale Willard passed away on Oct. 19, 2005 in Davis. Born in Woodland on July 20, 1953 to Dale Willard and Alma Lee Willard, he was 52 years old. Willard was raised and attended school in Winters.
Rodney was an avid basketball fan and loved to read.
He is survived by his mother, Alma Lee Jones; daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Mark Overgaard; granddaughter ,Kendall Overgaard; brothers Dale Ray Willard, Marty Willard and Austin Veliz; sister, Tina Minges; 10 nephews and nieces: Jeffery Shane Willard, Weston Willard, Marty Willard Jr., Benjamin Veliz, Christian Minges, Zachary Minges, Jessica Minges, Tyler Veliz, Jarret Veliz, and Katie Veliz. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles: Randall and Barbara Swink, Dale Swink, Dwayne and Carla Swink, Lynn and Josie Swink, Glenn and Bonita Gay, Mark Swink, and Geraldine Willard; numerous cousins and friends including Kimberley and Jr. Galabasa, Benny and Connie Willard, Todd, Ryan, Adam, Michelle and Amy Gay, Randy Swink, Phillip and Sue Swink, Janell and Rick Garcia, Nicholas and Kelly Swink, Aaron and Diane Swink and Jason and Laura Swink, Sherry and Phil Robertson, Lenial and Sheryl Stankewitz, Delane and Carla Swink, Robert and Kathy Swink, Macario and Joemar Dagdagan, the Gillespie family and the Shirley family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Willard; grandparents, Delbert and Zella Mae Swink, Walter “Heavy” Willard and Bessie Younger; uncles Laverll Swink and Uncle Jiggs, and cousin Bruce Willard.
Christian Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. at the Winters Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at Discovery Worship Center at 315 Edwards Street in Winters.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Food Closet, 512 First Street, Winters and to the Discovery Worship Center, 315 Edwards Street, Winters.
Jean Griffin Davis passed away after a short illness on Nov. 2, 2006 at her residence in Modesto. She was born in Napa on Aug. 12, 1921 to John D. and Grace Judy Griffin, a descendent of Yolo County pioneer families Griffin, De Vilbiss, Judy and Dafoe. The family home was in Richmond. After the death of her mother, she moved to Winters to live with her aunt and uncle, Loretta and Jack Vasey. She graduated from Winters High School in 1939 and attended College of Pacific in Stockton.
Jean joined Ralph N. Davis in marriage on Jan. 3, 1942. They farmed in Thornton and Esparto until Ralph became associated with Wells Fargo Bank, which resulted in several changes in residency. Upon Ralph’s retirement from the bank, they made their home in Woodland until 2003 when they moved to Modesto to be near family. Jean is remembered for being a super homemaker and talented seamstress.
In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by daughter, Diane Jardine and Jim of Prescott, Arizona; son and daughter in law, Michael and Trish Davis of Arnold; twin brother David Dean Griffin and his wife Joanne of Pleasanton; grandson Thomas Grande of Redmond, Oregon; one great-granddaughter; aunt Mary Lou Judy of Sacramento; sisters-in-law, Claire and Edith Davis; cousin Betty Coman of Winters and other cousins. Services were private.
Gerald Ball passed away peacefully on Nov. 2, 2006 with loved ones around him at the age of 86.
Born March 26, 1920 in Oakland, Gerry was a Contra Costa County and Yolo County resident, moving to Pleasant Hill in 1948, to Walnut Creek in 1958, to Winters in 1968, and to Woodland in 1978.
Mr. Ball’s parents were Wilfred Ball and Gladys (Voice) Ball, both Californians. He was a proud veteran serving in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he attended UC Berkeley, where he met Margery Ellen Nelson, who he married on June 20, 1945. After nearly 60 years of marriage, Margery passed away May 26, 2004. She was his lifelong partner and was deeply missed.
Mr. Ball loved to dance, have fun and was graced with a positive attitude which helped him endure challenging medical and physical issues. His successful professional career was highlighted and supported by his unflinching moral and ethical values which he practiced in all endeavors. These qualities have had a profound impact on all who came in contact with him. He worked for the California Packing Corporation, the Fire Underwriters on the West Coast, and as vice president of a manufacturing firm in San Francisco, before purchasing an almond and apricot ranch in Winters and successfully farmed it for over 10 years.
He was also a golf enthusiast and served as president of both the Contra Costa Country Club and the Yolo Fliers Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Shafa, his son Robert Ball; his grandchildren Casandra, Vanessa, Merwan, Alejandro, Daniel and Amanda; and his nieces, Lizanne Haygood and Debbie Boland; and his brother, Wilfred Ball Jr.
The family requests any memorials in Gerry’s name be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Respecting the wishes of Mr. Ball, no services are scheduled. A gathering will be held in his honor celebrating his life, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Chateau II, 2726 Pleasant Hill Road, Pleasant Hill, 94523. All are invited.
William H. Cranston passed away on Nov. 3, 2006. Born on Feb. 2, 1921 Northern California to Nellie Roe Preston and Ivan Cranston, he was 85.
When he was young, Mr. Cranston spent much time with his parents in the Sierras camping and fishing. As a young adult, he hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from Lake Tahoe to Yosemite. He received a bachelors degree from California Maritime Academy in 1942, and served as a merchant marine in WWII. He married Virginia (Ginger) Inman and had two daughters, Monica and Linda. He was a devoted and caring family man who enjoyed farming his own small orchard in the Santa Clara Valley hills. He was a multi-talented craftsman who could build and fix most anything. He spent many years restoring an old turn of the century Los Gatos cottage, and was also an avid gardener and trout fisherman.
Mr. Cranston worked as an engineer for Modern Ice and Cold Storage in San Jose after leaving the merchant marine industry. He never lost his love for the High Sierras and spent all summers with the family at Meeks Bay, Lake Tahoe. After raising his family, he became an avid traveler, enjoyed the tropics in the winter and stayed at his home at Meeks Bay, Lake Tahoe in the summer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ginger, who passed away in 1983. His second wife of 10 years was Elna Ross of Sacramento, who passed away in 1995. They lived for 10 years in Penn Valley and traveled together to Hawaii, New Zealand and Australia. Bill continued to travel with friends, going to Africa, the Cook Islands, Hawaii, and Tahiti.
Mr. Cranston is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Linda Cranston-Tolin and Robert Tolin of San Luis Obispo, and Monica Cranston and John Wallace of Winters; grand children, Garrett and Kaitlyn Tolin, of San Luis Obispo and Matt and Scott Wallace of Winters.
A private family gathering has been held. There will be a Celebration of Life in the Spring of 2007 at Meeks Bay, Lake Tahoe. All friends are invited. For information call 795-4171. Georgia “Juanita” Humphrey passed away on Nov. 7, 2006 in Woodland. Born on July 13, 1918 in Keota, Oklahoma, she was 88 years old.
Mrs. Humphrey worked as an licensed vocational nurse at Alderson’s Convalescent Hospital for 25 years. She was a graduate of Sacramento City College and a member of Woodland United Fellowship.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean (James) Coelho of Woodland; grandchildren, Jimmy Coelho, Jason Coelho, Maureen Colombara and Michael Olivera; friends, Diane Hancock, Trudy Best and Mary Wilder.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hofferd Humphrey; brothers, Elmer Garton, Woodrow Muncy, Levi Muncy, Olin Muncy, Kenneth Muncy and Jack Muncy; and sisters, Oleta Rodgers and Freda Martinez.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Winters Cemetery, with Carl Morgan of the Woodland United Fellowship officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Humphrey’s name to the Woodland United Fellowship Building Fund, 240 N. West Street, Woodland, CA, 95695.
Isabel Aguilera Carrion passed away Nov. 13, 2006 in Turlock, California. She was 91 years old. She was a native of Santa Rosa, arriving on Jan. 24, 1915 just weeks after her parents arrived in California from the Hawaiian Islands via La Calahorra, Espana.
Mrs. Carrion was raised in Vacaville. She married Guillermo “Willie” Carrion on April 14, 1933. They moved to Winters in 1940 and lived on the corner of Railroad and Anderson for 58 years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Della Marie and her husband “Willie.”
Mrs. Carrion was a member of the Winters PTA, Eastern Star, California Almond Growers and Club Iberico de Espana. She was a Room Mother and Den Mother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting with her knitting machines, gardening, singing ,dancing and building anything. She loved having family and friends over to the house for a good party. She always made things happen.
Mrs. Carrion will be remembered by friends and family as a fiery, full of energy lady on Railroad and Anderson. She shared her rose garden with Youth Day events, proms, graduations and for any one who would want a fresh bouquet of flowers. Many Youth Day floats were assembled in her garage or her barns. Mrs. Carrion will also be remembered for her kind heart, her passion for life, her love of family, her fantastic sense of humor and her ability to always fix anything.
She is survived by three children, Priscilla Yandell of Long Beach, Betty Ann Ireland of Turlock, and Bob Carrion of Flagstaff, Arizona. She had seven grandchildren and 11 great grand children, and delighted in having a gold charm bracelet that included 18 charms.
A celebration of Mrs. Carrion’s life will be held at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main Street, Vacaville, California on Friday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. Internment will follow at the Winters Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to the Winters Healthcare Foundation.
Ruby Viola Storz, of Esparto, died at Stollwood Convalescent Hospital in Woodland, on Thursday, Oct. 20, at age 83.
Mrs. Storz was born March 23, 1922, in Winters. She was a lifelong Yolo County resident. She attended grade school in Winters and graduated from Winters High School in 1940. She was a mother for 64 years and a housewife for 53 years. For 25 years she helped maintain the books for the family’s petroleum business. She was a member of the Countryside Community Church in Esparto and an elder of the church for a while.
Survivors include Mrs. Storz’s daughters, Nancy Ender, of Salmon, Idaho and Debbie Walters, of Folsom; grandchildren, Ron Lewis, of Winters, Cary Beckwith, of Woodland and Hans Holmquist, of Folson; two great-grandchildren, Ron and Freddie Lewis, of Winters and her brother, Toby Scott, of Esparto.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Frederick Alvin Storz; daughter, Maria Beckwith; son, Phillip Storz; parents, George and Ruby Scott; sisters, Lois Wonderoth and Lena Polglase; brothers, Lester, Floyd and J. C. Scott, and her great-grandfather, Winfield Scott, founder of Scottsdale, Arizona.
A graveside service is scheduled for noon, Saturday, Oct. 29, at Capay Cemetery, with Reverend Pamela Anderson officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the service at Countryside Community Church, 26479 Grafton Street, Esparto.

Betty Lou Gordon of Dunnigan died in Davis Thursday, Oct. 6 at age 67. Mrs. Gordon was born Aug. 17, 1938 in Colusa. She had been a Yolo County resident for 45 years. She was a 1957 graduate of Colusa High School. She has been a homemaker for 48 years and volunteered at her children’s school when they were younger as a room parent.
Survivors include Mrs. Gordon’s husband of 48 years, George Gordon Sr.; her daughter Terry (Gordon) Wilkinson and her husband Greg of Dobbins; her sons, George Gordon Jr. and his wife Jamie of Silver Springs, Nev., Mike Gordon and his wife Trish of Sacramento and Tom Gordon and his wife April of Woodland. Other survivors include her sisters, Nancy Borges of Crescent City, and Sally Martin of Sacramento; and her brother-in-law Bill Gordon and his wife Margaret of Williams, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Everett Gordon of Sacramento, Kristian, Kasi, Kourtnye and Kohlby Wilkinson of Dobbins, and Clay and Rachel Gordon of Woodland.
Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her parents, H. Edmond and Atha (Sweet) Heitman; her in-laws, Bill and Lucille Gordon; her sister, Janet Sicard; her uncle, Hubert and aunt Helen Heitman; uncle Adolph and Aunt Janet Stoll; and uncle Fred Heitman.
Memorials or donations in Mrs. Gordon’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Stroke Association.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Oct. 14 at Kraft Bros. Chapel in Woodland. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors in assisting the family with arrangements.
