Madelene G. Beattie

Madelene G. Beattie, 85, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, in Morgan Hill.

She is survived by her children Diane and Tom Beattie; grandchildren Tiffany and Troy Beattie; sister Luella Wachholz; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service takes place at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Advent Lutheran Church 16870 Murphy Ave.

Rae Skeels Parker

Rae Skeels Parker died Sunday, April 4, 2004, after a long illness. She was born Feb. 24, 1930, in San Jose.

She is survived by her children Jeffrey (Kathy) Parker, Jennifer (Chuck) Giffin, Stephanie Parker Olvera, Robert (Kathy) Parker; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and sisters Jean Pinard and Bobbie (Hal) Ryan.

She was preceded in death by her son Randal Parker.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at Johnson's Funeral Home.

Dolores E. Sosa

Dolores E. Sosa, 76, died March 31, 2004. A longtime resident of Morgan Hill, she was the wife of the late Francisco A. Sosa, who died in 1990.

She left her sons Lewis, Victor, Frank Jr., Abel, Richard, Fernando, John and Angel; and daughters Francis, Cecelia, Norma, Anita, Velia, Margaret (who died in 1992), Victoria and Leticia.

The Sosa family lived on the former Spaich Ranch at Richmond Avenue and Santa Teresa Boulevard.

Vigil Service was Monday, April 5, at  Whitehurst Funeral Chapel in Los Banos. Funeral Mass was this morning, April 6, at St. Joseph’s Church on Center Avenue across from the funeral chapel.

Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery in Morgan Hill.

Masuo ‘Mas’ Minami

Masuo Mas Minami of Morgan Hill entered into Nirvana on April 2, 2004, at the age of 82 years. He was a native of Pocatello, Idaho.

Minami served the community as a member of the Senior Citizens Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Valley Transportation Authority and the Morgan Hill Japanese-American community. He was recognized by the Mt. Madonna YMCA as Volunteer of the Year and by Meals on Wheels, Brown Bag and the Community Action Group for his volunteer work helping seniors.

He was a soldier in the Army Military Intelligence Service, a cartographer for the HM Gousha Map Co., and an engineer for the Santa Clara County Transportation Agency. He was a Little League coach, Cub Scout leader, swim team dad and community volunteer.

After meeting in the Gila River internment camp, he married Jitsuko Hamamoto and settled in Morgan Hill.

Aside from his wife, he is survived by children Don, Linda and Gordon; grandchildren Sean and Ava; and sister Fumiko Yoshimoto of Albuquerque, N.M.

Mas will be missed by his family and friends.

Friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the Morgan Hill Buddhist Church, 16450 Murphy Ave.

Arrangements were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

John Gerhard Lamb

John Gerhard Lamb died April 3, 2004, after a short battle with lung cancer. He was 74.

A former resident of Morgan Hill and San Jose, he lived in Sierra Vista, Ariz., at the time of his death.

Born in Longmont,  Colo., Mr. Lamb worked the railroad line as a teen and joined the U.S. Army in the 1950s to ultimately become a 1st lieutenant. Upon discharge, he and his wife, Camilla, moved to Westport, Conn., where he began a 34-year career with IBM.

After moving to Morgan Hill in 1978, Mr. Lamb became active in many educational and civic duties. He served as president of both the Live Oak Foundation and Booster clubs. He was also nominated as Morgan Hill Citizen of the Year. He was a founding member of Frazier Lake Airpark in Hollister, where he spent part of his 22 flying years as a private pilot.

Mr. Lamb’s passions included education, flying, photography, classic Thunderbirds, RV travel, foreign travel, big band music and any excuse for hosting a great party. While living in Sierra Vista, he helped found the local Youth Orchestra and donated his time to help build a music program in the local schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Lamb moved to Sierra Vista in 1997, and Mrs. Lamb died shortly thereafter. He is also preceded in death by his father Adam Lamb and his mother Emma Louise Gerhard.

He is survived by his partner of six years, Harriet Yount; daughter Heather Lamb of Tucson, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law John D. and Cindi of Redondo Beach; and grandson John Joseph. He also had a large extended family and many friends.

A private memorial service will be held.

Elizabeth (Bette) Rice

Elizabeth (Bette) Rice died April 6, 2004, peacefully at home in Morgan Hill.

She is survived by her children: Cheryl, Jim, Carol, Kevin and Spencer; Grandchildren: Matt, Nichole, Angela, Sean, Tara, Katie, Lynda, CJ, Kyle and Alyssa and great-grandchild Amy.

A memorial service celebrating Elizabeth’s life takes place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at  Johnson Funeral Home.

Jose Jesus Guerrero

Jose Jesus Guerrero died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, in Gilroy. He was 73 years old.

He was born March 3, 1929, in Robstown,  Texas and lived in Gilroy for more than 30 years. Jose was a Catholic and a member of St. Mary Church. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jose will be dearly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years Albertha Cano Guerrero; daughters and spouses Antonia (Henry) Zapata, Blanca (Daniel) Suniga, Nora G. Lopez (Jose Vasquez); sons and spouses Jose Guerrero, Albino Guerrero, all of Gilroy and Ricardo Guerrero of Stanfield, Oregon; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brothers Antonio Guerrero of Dallas,  Texas, Guadalupe Guerrero; sister Consuelo Oballe of Robstown,  Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jose was preceded in death by his father, Jose Maria Guerrero; mother Eusebia Borjas Guerrero; infant daughters Albertha and Consuelo Guerrero; sisters Jovita Segovia, Maria Carmen Garcia and Maria R. Alvarado.

Vigil Service was Thursday at Habing Family Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was this morning, Jan. 3, at St. Mary Church followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery, Gilroy.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Rudo of Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, Dr. Carrillo and staff of South County Dialysis and Dr. Samuel Wu, nurses and staff of Saint Louise Regional Hospital. The family asks that any donations be made to the Kidney Foundation.
