Florence Cynthia Trimble
Florence Cynthia (See) Trimble, age 92, died Dec. 29, 2002, in Gilroy.
Florence was born on July 22, 1910, in Barnard, Kan., to Florence Coralin (Purinton) and Rev. Joseph Northrop See. She graduated cum laude from Kansas Weslyan University in 1932, and began her teaching career. She married John Trimble on June 10, 1934, in Evanston, Ill., where he was completing his ministerial training.
The couple served churches in Kansas, Wyoming and Iowa before moving to California with their five children in 1948. In California they continued their ministry in Tranquility, Fresno, Farmersville, Poplar and Tipton. They moved to Gilroy in 1970 following her husband's retirement, where Mrs. Trimble was a reading resource specialist in the Morgan Hill Unified School District until her retirement in 1978. She continued teaching English as a Second Language until last year. She worked unceasingly to provide shelter for homeless people in the Gilroy area.
She was honored with numerous awards, including the Northern California-Nevada United Methodist Church Bishop’s Award; the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission Toni Sykes Award; the JC Penney Golden Rule Award; and recognition from the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, California-Nevada United Methodist Women, and three presidents of the United States. She was one of the recipients of President Bush’s 1,000 Points of Light awards. The Gilroy Methodist Church named its new education building for her, and the Gilroy Dispatch dubbed her “the Mother Teresa of Gilroy.”
Florence was a life-long activist. She inspired others with her continual constant benevolence.
Survivors include son Ray Trimble and his wife Mary of Morgan Hill; son Mark and his wife DeAnna Rafanelli of Sacramento; daughter Mary Trimble of Sacramento; and son Joe Trimble and his wife Pat Leake of Daly City; grandchildren Teresa and Ben Hernandez of Morgan Hill with great-grandchildren, Cristina, B.J. and Cristian; Andrew Trimble of Virginia; Diana Trimble of Carmichael; and Judi Trimble of Galt; Julie Caspersen and Eric Schultz, and Janine Caspersen of Sacramento; Janel Brynda of Daly City, and John and Desiree Brynda, currently at Beale AFB with great-grandchildren Sebastian, Cyan and Cynthia. She also leaves three dear nieces Gladys Church, Mildred Law and Alice Bamberger in Kansas, and their families; and a multitude of friends across the country.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John R. Trimble, and a son, Paul LeRoy Trimble.

Margaret Virginia Shepard
Margaret Virginia Shepard, 89, a longtime resident of Sunnyvale, died April 12, 2004.
Virginia was born Oct. 30, 1914, in Oklahoma. She was one of eight children. Virginia was a retired school teacher. She enjoyed tutoring special needs children. Her many hobbies included playing the piano, singing and gardening. She was an avid golfer in her later years, she also enjoyed traveling and was a longtime member of a church quilting group.
In her earlier years, while ranching in Colorado, she was a champion for improving the water system and the education of children in the area.
Virginia was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Sunnyvale and will be missed by all in her community.She is survived by four sisters and a brother; children Shary Goulart of Morgan Hill, Martha McClelland of Lexington, Mich.; Calvin Lamberson of Twain Harte, Carl Lamberson Jr. of Reno; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
A visitation with family and friends takes place 5-8 p.m. today, April 16, at Johnson Funeral Home. A memorial service takes place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Mission City Memorial Cemetery
in Santa Clara on April 19.
Martha B. Moore
Martha B. Moore died April 9, 2004, in Saratoga. She was 88.
Born April 2, 1919, in Machali, Chile, Mrs. Moore was the wife of the late Paul Moore. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Gilroy, Past Noble Grand of the Unity Rebekah Lodge of Gilroy, Fidelity Rebekah Lodge #25, Past Noble Grand of Pocahontas, Ogareeta, Chapter 53, Magnolia Chapter #45, Order of Eastern Star, Gilroy and Past Chaplin of the Gilroy Grange.
Martha graduated from the University of Chile as a dietician, giving lectures here in the South Bay both to expectant mothers and Spanish-speaking audiences. She also worked as a lab assistant at U.C. Berkeley.
Arrangements were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.
Daniel E. Lujan Sr.
Daniel E. Lujan Sr. died April 12, 2004, in Morgan Hill.
Daniel was a hod carrier in and around Gilroy for over 30 years. He was raised in Gilroy and attended Gilroy schools.
He is survived by his fiancé Rosemary Carranza; children Daniel Jr. and his wife Beatrice Lujan of Morgan Hill, Arlene and her husband Anthony Guerra of Gilroy, Annette Lujan, Virginia Lujan, both of Morgan Hill, and Elizabeth Lujan and Danella Lujan, both of Gilroy.
Daniel is the son of Thomas Sr. and his wife Arlene Lujan of Gilroy; stepfather of Joey, Arturo, Linda, Jina and Brian Carranza, all of Gilroy. He also is survived by 16 grandchildren, brothers, sisters and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Jr. and granddaughter Sapphire Santiago.
Vigil Service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 19, at the funeral home, then to Gavilan Hills Memorial Park for burial.
Joseph James Murphy
Joseph James Murphy died Sunday, April 10, 2004, in Morgan Hill at the age of 26.
Upon completing high school, Joseph had enlisted and served with the U.S. Coast Guard prior to studying and graduating from the Police Academy at Evergreen Valley College.
His favorite book was the Bible and among his preferred verses were “To obey, to be ready for every good work; to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle and showing humility to all.”
He was the very dearly beloved son of James and Hedda Murphy. He also is survived by his sisters Janine Murphy, Cindy Tinetti and their children.
Viewing takes place at 6 tonight at Habing Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Los Gatos Memorial Park Cemetery, 2255 Los Gatos-Almaden Road, in the same cemetery near his very esteemed and cherished girlfriend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to Living Water Fellowship, 985 30th Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95062.
Mark Santos
Mark Santos died April 11, 2004, at his home in Gilroy at the age of 35.
“Markie” was born and raised in Gilroy. After graduating from Gilroy High School he attended West Hills Community College in Coalinga. He most recently owned and operated R&M Santos Excavation with his father. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Gilroy. Mark enjoyed mountain biking, BMX, hot rods and RC cars. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and son “Marky.”
He is the father of Mark J. Santos; son of Roger and Kathy Santos; brother of Leanne Santos and her husband Leon Haygood; and grandson of Nancy Ciacco, all of Gilroy; nephew of Alfred Ciacco, Jim and his wife Pauline Lemberger and Dorothy Chiesa, all of Gilroy, Charlie and his wife Betty Elder of Cupertino and Farrel Martin of Hollister; greatnephew of Walter “Buzz” Walsh; and uncle of Beau and Timmy Haygood, all of Gilroy. He also is survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents Elmer and Flora Santos and Frank Ciacco; and his greataunt Margaret Walsh.
Services including Funeral Mass were Thursday under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Gilroy.
A trust for Mark's son has been established at the South Valley National Bank in Gilroy.
Amelia Hernandez-Rubio
Amelia Hernandez-Rubio died Monday, April 12, 2004, at her home in Gilroy. She was 75.
A native of Mexico, Amelia enjoyed knitting, arts, and crafts but mostly she loved to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be loved and missed forever.
She is survived by her husband, Jesus Rubio of Gilroy; children Rosario and her husband Jose Castaneda of Gilroy, Juan and his wife Evangelina Triana of Gilroy, Alicia and her husband Pifanio Avila of Phoenix, Elvia and her husband Juan Galvan of Gilroy, Miguel and his wife Rosaura Rubio of Gilroy, Delfina Rubio of Gilroy, Maria de Jesus Rubio of Gilroy and Lilia and her husband Jesus Ibarra of Gilroy; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Burial was this morning, Friday, at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park in Gilroy under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.
