June Eckett

June Eckett of Morgan Hill died April 8, 2004, at the age of 73 in San Jose.

June retired from Santa Clara County. Her strong will lost the battle with diabetes. She was known as “Mom” or “Grandma” and “Junebug” to all that have known and met her.

Some of her greatest joys were reading, knitting and crocheting, playing cribbage with Grandpa, bingo, spoiling her grandkids, eating chocolate-covered cherries, holding Allie and Abbie (twin calico kitties), and talking to Caesar (Grandpa's great dane) and her squakin’ yellow Tweetybird. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her “special warm and unique love” by all of her family, friends and pets.

The heavens have welcomed their most beautiful angel.

She was the beloved wife of 48 years to Robert Steven Eckett; loving mother and best friend to Robin Julene Eckett; cherished grandmother “Mama” to Calvin Calhoun, Xavier Bonton, Cameron Bonton, Napoleon Bonton; loved by former son-in-law Christopher Bonton; and stepgrandma to Daniel Zavala, Marla and Michael Devos.

Arrangements were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

She recently became Assemblyman John Laird’s alternate on the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee, was a member of the South County Democratic Club, a Morgan Hill City Hall volunteer, member of Council on Aging, Senior Advisory Committee, Madrone Mobile Estates Activity Committee volunteer, assisted with city Redevelopment Agency campaigns, was a longtime supporter of Dungeon of Fear (a local Halloween attraction) and donated a great deal of her time to helping underprivileged and troubled children through various community organizations including Community Solutions, Community Action Group, ChildSpree and Toys for Tots. Marie also was an LVN (a nurse).

A Certificate of Recognition will be read by Mayor Dennis Kennedy at the April 21, City Council meeting. Family and friends are invited to the meeting or watch the presentation at 7 p.m. on Charter Cable Channel 17.

Edward D. Seghieri

Edward D. Seghieri, a Morgan Hill resident for 52 years, died April 14, 2004, while surrounded by loved ones. He was born March 2, 1922, in San Francisco.

Retired from the Post Office in 1982, he spent his time helping those less able from delivering “meals on wheels,” to driving the elderly without means to doctor appointments. As a member of countless clubs and organizations, he constantly donated his time and resources to various functions.

When, during this same time his beloved wife, Madelyn, was struck with a cruel disease, he personally and lovingly cared for her until he physically was no longer able. After her death in 1995, not a day went by that she was not in his thoughts. Partners in love and life for 49 years, they are together again, to spend eternity in God’s embrace.

He will be greatly missed by a sister, a son, two grandchildren and many others.

A memorial service took place this morning, Tuesday, at St. Catherine’s Church followed by a short graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery. A celebration of life took place at the Woodland Estates clubhouse following the services.

Arrangements were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

Raymond J. Castro

Raymond J. Castro, 45, died April 12, 2004, at San Jose Medical Center.

He was born in Hollister and graduated from San Benito High School and most recently lived in Morgan Hill. He worked in the picture framing industry and enjoyed art, woodworking and music.

He is survived by his soul-mate Jane Marchetta of Morgan Hill; his mother Angela Castro of San Juan Bautista; brother Jeff Castro and wife Marcelle; and nephew Nolan, all of Hollister.

Arrangements have been made for cremation at Grunnagel-Ament Nelson Crematory.

Billy Ray Robertson

Billy Ray Robertson, born Jan. 7, 1932, in Huntsville,  Texas, died April 17 after a six-month battle with cancer.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and best friend. He was a family man and a good friend to many people. He was the rock we all leaned on. Bill was survived by his wife of 54 years; three children; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

We will all miss him so very much, family members said. Life will not be the same without our rock.

Bill retired at the age of 56 after working for Lockheed for 30 years. He was a jack-of-all-trades and kept busy building and remodeling houses for himself and others. He was an intelligent man who had a philosophy that if someone else could do it, he could too. He loved to hunt, fish and go off-road in his Jeep 4x4.

Services were today, Friday, at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
