Marjorie Mitchell Ingraham (née Marjorie Frances Mitchell) died at her home in Fair Oaks, California on July, 20, 2005 after having suffered a series of strokes. She was born in Calexico, California on March 15, 1923, attended school in Los Angeles, worked as a draftsman/engineer building mine sweeps during WWII, and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1948. She lived with her husband in Winters in the dome house at the end of Holmes Lane from 1981 to 1995.
She is survived by her husband (John Ingraham of Fair Oaks), her daughter and son-in-law (Catherine and Thomas Vigran of Fair Oaks), her son and daughter-in-law (Thomas and Luanne Ingraham of Fort Collins, Colorado) and six grandchildren (Anna Vigran, Lisa Vigran, Dana Vigran, Ian Ingraham, Elena Ingraham, and John Ingraham).
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis, 27074 Patwin Road, on September 24 at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Charles Robert Brown died Sept. 1, 2005, at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento. He was 58 years old.
He was born in Sacramento on Oct. 15, 1946, to Charles and Jane (Gregg) Brown. He attended area schools, graduating from Winters High School in 1964.
A professional truck driver, Brown was employed for 35 years by Albright Trucking of Woodland, and Valley Farm Trucking and Antonini Trucking, both of Yuba City. He retired in 1995.
He is survived by his sons, Martin Brown of San Francisco and Eric Brown of Yuba City; stepson, Ronnie of Colorado; a sister, Carolyn Childress of Woodland; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jane Brown.
A celebration of life service for Brown will be held at a later date, his family said. Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting with the arrangements.

Vernon Hough Jeffery died in Fairfield, California on September 6, 2005, at age 82, after suffering a brief illness. Mr. Jeffery was born in Vacaville, California on September 25, 1922. He worked at Binex Business Systems, Jeffery Milling, which he co-owned with his father, and American Modoc, which he co-owned with George Cances. Mr. Jeffery was a founding member of Valley Evangelical Free Church in Vacaville, was a School Board Member of the Vacaville Christian Academy, was on the Board of Directors for the Mt. Gilead Bible Conference, and was a finical administrator at the Valley Church. He also worked with his sons at Jeffrey Soil Stabilization.
At the age of 25, Mr. Jeffrey was the mayor of Winters and was involved in Sea Scouts. In 1959, he was named Winters’ Citizen of the Year. Mr. Jeffrey loved boating, fishing and traveling. He also liked playing tennis and pool. For 25 years, Mr. Jeffrey had a passion for the building, growth and expansion of the Valley Church, and he loved being surrounded by his family and friends.
Mr. Jeffrey is survived by his wife of 10 years, Susan Jeffrey, his sons, Ashley Jeffery ,of Vacaville, and Philip Jeffrey, of Coos Bay, Oregon, his stepsons, David Hightower, of Winters, and Mark Bradstreet, of Fairfield,  Pennsylvania, his step-daughter Dawn McCary, of Warrenville,  South Carolina, his 19 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service and burial will be held at the Valley Church in Vacaville, and will be officiated by Dr. Raleigh Galgan. Contributions may be sent to the Valley Church Building Fund at www.valleychurch.com and/or the Mt. Gilead Bible Conference 13485 Green Valley Road, Sebastopal, CA, 95472.

A. Ramona Rothe, age 77, passed away suddenly following a short battle with cancer on October 25, 2005. She was born on November 25, 1927 in  Texas. Ramona married Courtney W. Rothe, he preceded her in death on May 20, 1998.
Ramona was employed for 40 years as a Word Processing Supervisor with Safeway grocery store. Most recently she had been working as a receptionist at Covell Gardens. She was very active in the Davis Community Church and also with the Davis Senior Center where she was a member of the Nostalgics singing group. She was also very involved with the Friday afternoon dance group at the senior center. Ramona loved driving and she would drive all over the state of California, she loved dancing and was an extremely energetic person. Her family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the many friends from the Davis Senior Center and the Davis Community Church for their selfless acts of service in assisting Ramona during her brief battle with cancer.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Kilpatrick of Woodland, California; children, Patricia Lennert (Don) of Lavon,  Texas; Pamela Lynch (Don) of Plains, Montana and Jill  Johnson (Loren) of Davis, California; grandchildren, Courtney Rippee; Logan Rippee; Allison Johnson; Jeanette Fechner; Briand Fechner; Kristin Lake (Dan); 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 3 sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 3 p.m. at the Davis Community Church located at 412 C Street, Davis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Davis Community Church or the Davis Senior Center.

August “Gus” Bonillo passed away on Oct. 27, 2005, in Winters, surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old.
Born on March 25, 1919, in San Francisco, he was a longtime resident of Winters.
He is survived by his loving daughter Diane, and her husband Bill Chave, of Winters; sons David, and his wife, Donna, of Davis, and Gus, of San Jose. He was a devoted grandfather to Christopher, Jolene, Aaron, Darise, Micha, Nicole and Joseph; also six great-grandchildren.
The family invited friends to join them for a service of remembrance on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. in his home at 8834 Halley Road, Winters.
Inurnment will be private.

James D. Phillips Sr., age 64, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly while recovering from a recent open heart surgery. He was born on Aug. 18, 1941 in Wynne, Ark. To Mitchell H. and Florence O. (Gaither) Phillips. He married V. Rita Sanders on March 5, 1960 in Reno, Nev.
At a very young age, James’ family moved to Winters where he was raised and graduated from Winters High School. He served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. Throughout his life he loved tinkering with trucks and any small mechanical item. He worked as a parts manager for Ochoa Brothers of Woodland. He was a very loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow and was particularly interested in watching their various sports activities, he was proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. James was the type of individual that would do anything to help anyone, he was always very considerate of others.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Phillips of Woodland; children, Bonnie Sunderland (Robert) of Woodland; Sherry Trapp (Stephen) of Chicago; Frank Phillips of Woodland; William Troy Phillips of Reno, Nev. and James Phillips Jr. of Rapid City, S.D.; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald B. Phillips.
A viewing was held on Dec. 15 at Wiscombe’s Davis Funeral Chapel. A private interment took place in the Winters cemetery.

Margaret Esther Walker Geerts of Winters died on Friday, Dec. 16, 2005 at Stollwood Convalescent Hospital. She was 92 years old.
Born in Colorado on July 24, 1913, Mrs. Geerts spent 75 years living in Winters. She had been a homemaker for 73 of those years and was a member of the Calvary Baptist church.
Mrs. Geerts is survived by her son, Albert Lester Geerts and his wife Patricia of Winters; sisters, Marie  Taylor of El Sobrante, Evelyn Drawborn of  Texas; Esma Estrada and her husband Alex of Winters; and a brother, Ernest (Bud) Walker and his wife Jimmie of Sacramento. She is also survived by grandchildren, Cindy Cole, Ben Geerts and his wife Debbie of Winters, Tim Geerts and his wife Jennifer of Woodland and great-grandchildren, Jenny Antrim and Chris Cole both of Woodland; Travis Janel and Justin Geerts of Woodland, and Keith, Aaron and Skyler Geerts.
Mrs. Geerts was preceded in death by her husband Alfonso Geerts, parents Arthur and Flossie Walker, sisters Violet Davis, Ruth Wagnon, Mildred Rayborn and Louise Fields.
A private burial was held in the Winters cemetery. McNary’s Funeral Chapel of Woodland is in charge of the arrangements.

Romaine “Violet” Hughes, born July 8, 1912 in Denver, Colorado, passed away at her Winters home Sunday, December 4. She was 93 years old.
A Winters resident for the last 60 years, she was the loving mother of 8 children, 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by one daughter and her parents.
Per her wishes, a graveside service was held at Winters Cemetery on Friday December 9.

Dick Romney, of Etna, passed away on Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, after a long and happy life. He was born in 1927 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He and his wife, of 56 years, Joanne, chose to make their home in the Scott Valley after living in Winters for 25 years. Before their move, Dick loved vacationing in the Trinity Alps, bird hunting and sport fishing. An outgoing, people-loving person, Dick was an avid member of the Scott Valley Car Pals, the Etna Lions, and a regular for morning coffee at the Etna Deli.
His lifelong love of cars in particular, and all things automotive, led Dick to a career in the truck equipment industry. He founded and ran Pac Power, Inc. in Dixon, for many years. Dick was president of the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA).
He served in the Army, 7th Infantry, in Korea and graduated with a bachelor of science in business, from the University of Utah.
Dick is survived by his wife, Joanne; son Rick and his wife, Jiley Romney and their children Dustin, Jamieson, Jordan and Kaely Romney; daughter Cathy and her husband Alan Zimmerman and their children, Ben and Dan Zimmerman, and Dick’s brother, George J. Romney, and his wife, Joanne.
A Veteran’s service will be held on Friday, Dec. 9, 2005 at noon at the Ft.  Jones Cemetery, followed by food and refreshments at 4736 So. Kidder Loop.
In lieu of flowers, the Romney family requests that donations be made to Dachshund Rescue in Dick’s name.
