Josephine L. Garcia

Josephine L. Garcia died on Sept. 4, 2004, in Morgan Hill.

She was born in  Texas on Sept. 18, 1903. Josie lived a long and healthy life as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Josephine will always be remembered as a strong, inspirational angel of God.

She leaves behind her daughter Sue Valenti; grandchildren Jim, Kenny and Corinne; great-grandchildren Anthony and Jimmy; sister Delfina Hernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass was Friday, Sept. 10, at St. Catherine’s Church followed by interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

Beryl C. Henry

Beryl C. Henry, a Hidden Valley Lake resident, died Sept. 7, 2004, in Clearlake. She was 74.

She was born Feb. 6, 1930, in MI. She was a former resident of Morgan Hill for 18 years, and a 14 year resident of Lake County.

Beryl is survived by her husband, Jerry C. Henry; sons Robert M. May of Sunnyvale, Fred M. May of Gilroy, James C. May of Middletown; daughters Robbie C. Zampa of Napa, Barbara A. Morales of Cameron Park; stepsons Randy Henry of Park City, Utah, and Stanley Henry of Rochester, WA.; stepdaughter Candace Tanaka of Bend, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Arrangements made by  Jones & Lewis Clear Lake Memorial Chapel in Lower Lake.

Juan Carlos Tarin

Juan Carlos Tarin, born Feb. 13, 1987, died Aug. 17, 2004.

Carlos enjoyed being on the phone, loved life itself and enjoyed listening to his favorite music. He liked to take things apart and put them back together. Most of all he loved his family, his mother, stepfather, brothers and sisters. He always found the time to say “I love you.”

Juan is survived by his mother Juana Clyde; stepfather James Clyde; brothers Tereso and Junior; sisters Conception and Priscilla; stepsisters Gabby and Destiny; grandmother Conception Tarin; nieces, nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Francisco; uncles Mike and Domingo; and cousins Danielle, Lorenzo Jr. and Francisco Jr.

Juan Carlos also was known as Juan Carlos Barrios.

Funeral Mass was Aug. 25 at St. Catherine Church. Internment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy.

Services were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

Ted Floros

Ted Floros died Sept. 5, 2004, in Gilroy after a brief illness. He was 79.

Mr. Floros was a native of Gilroy where he was a rural letter carrier for more than 35 years in the Gilroy and San Juan Bautista areas. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Ted was a life member of the American Legion and was very active in Legion activities. He was in the Past Commanders Club of California, a life member of the VFW Post 6309, a member of Anavicus, the 40 and 8 Club and the Gilroy Elks Lodge 1567.

Mr. Floros is survived by his wife, Edna, of Gilroy; sons Gary Floros of North Carolina and Gregg Floros of East Lansing, Mich.; stepsons Stephen and Cliff Brabant; and grandchildren Laura, Rhett, Susan, Patrick and Tony Floros and Kristin Brabant.

Mr. Floros was preceded in death by his son George Floros.

Services were Thursday, Sept. 9, at Habing Family Funeral Home. Entombment was at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.

The family asks that any donations be made to the Child Welfare Foundation American Legion Dept. of California , 401 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco, CA 94102.

Thomas M. Walker

Thomas M. Walker died at Stanford Hospital on Sept. 11, 2004 after a brief illness. Thomas was born in Biloxi, MS 49 years ago. He is survived by his wife Amy Walker of San Martin, step-father of Eloy and Robert Duran of Morgan Hill, brother of Eddie Walker of MS and is also survived by his cousin April Gambel of Covington, TN.

Thomas was a landscaper in the Santa Cruz area, he was a resident of San Martin. Mr. and Mrs. Walker were active in the Heart to Heart Ukraine Ministry and in March they went there to work on a orphanage. As a result of the trip, 25 Ukraine orphans will be coming to the United States to be considered for US adoption. Six will be in the Gilroy area and the rest will be in various parts of the country.

He was a member of the South Valley Community Church and was also involved in the Prison Fellowship Ministry.

Funeral Services will be Sept.23, 10:30am at South Valley Community Church.

Tom's family would like everyone to bring a single flower to the services. Burial will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart to Heart Ukraine Ministry in his memory are preferred and appreciated. Arrangement by Habing Family Funeral Home.

Shirley Louise Wright

Shirley Louise Wright, a long time resident of Cupertino died Sept. 8, 2004. She was 69.

Mrs. Wright was born in Dodge City, KS., on May 24, 1935, and grew up in San Francisco. After moving to Redwood City and attending Sequoia High School she met and married Jim Wright. Shirley had many friends from Morgan Hill. They will remember her for her sharp wit, her love of a good joke and her kindness to those in need.

She is survived by her loving husband Jim; children Mike and his wife Robin, Tim Wright, Debra Wright-Tawney and her husband John and Chris Wright and his wife Patti; two grandsons; three stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services were Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Los Altos Chapel of Spangler Mortuaries

The family asks that any donations be made to the American Heart Association, 1 Almaden Blvd., Suite 500, San Jose, CA 95113-2214.

Kenneth Harlan Sr.

Kenneth Harlan Sr. died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Hazel Hawkins Hospital in Hollister. He was 84.

Born in San Martin, he grew up and lived in San Juan Bautista on School Road and worked in civil service at Beale Air Force Base in Yuba City and had lived in Lucia in Big Sur where he was a ranch foreman on the Moore Ranch.

Mr. Harlan also lived in Pacific Grove and came back to San Juan Bautista 35 years ago.

His first wife, Audrey Janean Harlan, died in 1990. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific and was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church in Hollister.

He is survived by his wife, Inez Lopez Harlan of San Juan Bautista whom he married in 1991; children Linda Harlan of Morro Bay and Kenneth Harlan Jr. of Gilroy; grandson Weston Harlan of Gilroy; and brothers Lloyd Harlan and Gilbert Harlan, both of San Juan Bautista.

Memorial services take place at 4pm Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Hollister 7th Day Adventist Church on Sunnyslope Road.

Arrangements and cremation were by Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory. Interment will take place at the San Juan District Cemetery in San Juan Bautista.

The family asks that any donations be made to The American Cancer Society c/o Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home, 363 7th St. Hollister, CA 95023.
