Gary Vernon Calvert
Gary Vernon Calvert of Gilroy died during the early morning at home on Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, from a long bout with cancer, which he fought valiantly until his last breath.
Gary was born on May 3, 1951, in Casper, Wyo. He was an active member of the South Valley business community, president of ASCO Air and recently worked for Prime Mechanical of Morgan Hill. He was a member of the Gilroy Rotary, and an active member of Advent Lutheran Church where he was energetically involved in the youth program. Gary had a zest for life and lived everyday to the fullest. He was a private pilot, marathon runner and former Army and Air Force pilot serving in Korea.
He is survived by his wife, Beth of 23 years; children Christopher, Amanda, Daniel and Ryan; parents Walt and Mardelle of Colorado, sisters Teresa Cordova and Sharon Linnebur; mother-in-law Ann Price; sister-in-law Sherry Quick; and Paul and Sandy Otellini.
He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service takes place at 1pm Thursday, Dec. 30, at Advent Lutheran Church.
The asks that contributions in lieu of flowers be made to the American Cancer Society.
Frederick William Stukey Jr.
Frederick William Stukey Jr., 58, of Morgan Hill and former resident of Goshen, N.Y., died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Kaiser Hospital in San Jose.
Mr. Stukey was the son of Frederick W. and Jean Johnson Stukey. He was born Oct. 2, 1946, in Goshen.
He was a graduate of Goshen Central High School, Orange County Community College and Rochester Institute of Technology.
He retired from IBM where he worked as an electrical engineer for 25 years.
At the time of his death he was employed by Hitachi in San Jose.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Goshen and was a former elder.
His loving wife, Lisa Mathews Stukey; and his loving mother, Jean Johnson Stukey, survive him.
A celebration of life takes place at 7:30pm Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Johnson Funeral Home.
Frank Everett Alvernaz Sr.
Frank Everett Alvernaz Sr., 57, died Dec. 16, 2004, in Gilroy after a lengthy illness.
Frank was born in San Jose, but lived in Morgan Hill for many years.
He worked in law enforcement and security most of his life.
An old-time cowboy at heart, he enjoyed ranching, team roping, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children Lynne Steed and husband Fred Steed of Morgan Hill and Frank Alvernaz Jr. of Morgan Hill; grandchildren Shaylyn, Kayla, Mason, Amanda Rae, Shelby and Logan Steed of Morgan Hill, and Dustin Alvernaz of Morgan Hill; sisters Pat Drake and husband Bill of San Jose, Diana Smith and husband Jim of Morgan Hill; brother-in-law Bill Hessling of San Jose; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the loving son of the late Frank and Margaret Ellen Alvernaz.
Siblings Cheryl Hessling and Edward Alvernaz also preceded him in death.
Services were Dec. 22 at Johnson Funeral Home.
The family asks that any contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Viron B. Bowen
Viron B. Bowen died Dec. 26, 2004.
Viron was born in Corinth, Miss., and was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He lived in California for the past 60 years.
He worked for Ford Motor Co. as a painter for 30 years.
He loved life and loved giving.
He received great enjoyment in giving what he could to people.
He leaves behind a daughter Linda (Steve) Morioka of Hollister; son James Bowen of California; stepson Gerald Dew of California; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years.
Visitation takes place from 11am-noon on today, Dec. 31, at Johnson Funeral Home.
Service follows at noon at the funeral home.
Interment will be at t Mount Hope Cemetery.
Frances Rachel Gales
Frances Rachel Gales, a longtime resident of Morgan Hill, died Dec. 20, 2004.
She was born Feb. 3, 1929, and was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She is survived by sons Steve Gales of San Martin, Mike Gales of San Juan Bautista, Dan Gales of San Juan Bautista and Jerry Gales of Morgan Hill; grandsons Larry, Marc, Steven, Kalan, Daniel Jr., Colton and Tyler; and great-grandchildren Emily, Noah and Benjamin.
Interment will be at a private ceremony at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery
in Gustine.
Dorothy Elsa Hermann
Dorothy Elsa Hermann died Dec. 24, 2004, at her family home in Gilroy.
Mrs. Hermann, born and raised in Seattle, Wash., moved to California in 1947.
She was co-founder of National Fiberglass Corp. based in Gilroy.
Other business ventures include The Cutting Horse Restaurant in San Juan Bautista, where she was co-owner for 17 years.
She is survived by her children Lehanna R. Boyd of Gilroy, John Hermann of Hillsboro, Oregon, Deborah Lekberg of Mechanicsberg, Penn. and Dorian Mackay of Placerville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her beloved pets.
The family will have private services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the local SPCA.
Arrangements were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.

Frank Peter Basile Jr.
Frank Peter Basile Jr., 55, of Gilroy, died Dec. 15, 2004.
Frank worked at Monterey Mushrooms for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary “Libba” Basile, and their children Anthony and Angela.
