Daniel P. Hegglin

Daniel P. Hegglin died at home in Morgan Hill on Jan. 13, 2005, after a long illness. He was 63.

A native of Chicago, Hegglin was a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked in the nuclear power field for many years, traveling the world. Later, he worked for an international construction company as a project manager. For enjoyment Dan liked to hang glide, hike and spend time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Karen; son Douglas and his wife Kathleen; daughter Suzanne and her husband Dave Brown; stepdaughters Melissa and her husband Mark Dean, Rebecca and her husband Tim Pasquinelli, and Sarah and her husband Joe Simon; and grandchildren Eliza, Eric, Evan and Ethan Dean, and Gabriella and Reece Pasquinelli.

A memorial service took place Jan. 20 at Morgan Hill Bible Church. Services were made under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

Jose “Lalo” Hernandez

Jose “Lalo” Hernandez died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, in San Jose.

His biggest enjoyments were the Beatles, Giants and 49ers, but most important to him was spending time with his grandsons, family and his many friends. He proudly worked for United Technology Corp. for more than 18 years.

He is survived by his children Gabriel Hernandez and Jarrod Hernandez, both of Gilroy; grandchildren Gabriel Jr., and Julian, their mother Dolores Garcia who is expecting a granddaughter next month, Layla and her mother Serena Fuentez; siblings Ted Hernandez and his wife Ortencia, Jose Hernandez and his wife Stella, Lupe Hernandez, all of Gilroy, Bert Hernandez of Santa Monica, and Frank Montalvo and his wife Theresa of  Texas, Maria Hernandez, Margaret Eglinton and her husband Richard, Susie Salas and her husband Carlos of Whittier, Esther Castaneda and her husband Frank of Gilroy, Peggy Hernandez and her fiancé Jess Sanchez, Terry Heredia and her husband Robert all of Gilroy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Theodoro and Angelina Hernandez; brother John Hernandez; Godson Carlos Vaca; and his children’s mother Theresa Salgado.

Funeral services took place Jan. 21, under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Brian Nathaniel Enos

Brian Nathaniel Enos, 19, died Jan. 20, 2005.

Brian was born on June 9, 1985. He lived in Morgan Hill since one week before his first birthday in the same home. He attended Paradise Valley Elementary, Britton Middle School and Live Oak High School. He graduated from Live Oak in 2003.

Brian played basketball for Britton and Live Oak. He was extremely patriotic and helped found the Patriot Club at Live Oak. He recently worked for Sprint after working at Reebok for over two years. Brian enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid poker player.

Brian will remain lovingly in all of our hearts forever. He touched so many lives with his bright and shining smile that will never be forgotten, family members said.

He was the beloved son of William and Frankie; brother to Tori and Katie; brother-in-law to David; loving and devoted uncle and godfather to Andrew, his “Turtle;” grandson to Joe Oaks and Delia Oaks and to Robert and Joan Enos.

Brian also is survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members and countless devoted friends.

Vigil service took place Monday at  Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral Mass takes place at 11am today at St. Catherine’s Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the “Brian Enos Memorial Fund” at Wells Fargo Bank in Morgan Hill. Donations will be used for a scholarship in Brian’s name.

Tony C. Talerico

Tony C. Talerico died Jan. 17, 2005, in Morgan Hill at the age of 93. He was a native of Spokane, Wash.

He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Talerico; loving father of Thomas Talerico and his wife Debra; devoted grandfather of Andy, Keith and Erin. Dear brother of Santa Monaco, Sam, Frank and Felix Talerico; and dear uncle of numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Felix Talerico.

Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 21 St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Interment followed at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of Lima Family Erickson of San Jose.

Harry M. Sakai

Harry M. Sakai, a longtime resident of Morgan Hill, 83, died Jan. 18, 2005, in Gilroy.

He was the beloved husband of Yuki Sakai. He also is survived by his brothers and sisters Tillie (Ichiro) Katsura, Sumi (Tom) Kusayanagi, Metcko Nakamoto, Fred (Margie) Sakai, Bob (Hiromi) Sakai. He is lovingly remembered by family and friends, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral Services took place at 2pm on Friday, Jan. 21, at the Morgan Hill Buddhist Annex.

Arrangements were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

Lili Beatrice Ferguson

Lili Beatrice Ferguson died Jan. 16, 2005, in Morgan Hill. For many years, Lili battled Alzheimer’s disease while supported by her devoted children. Her youngest daughter, Joan, was especially helpful in providing care and assistance.

Lili had a wonderful and infectious sense of humor. Her favorite times were when she was surrounded by her children. Sometimes she would spontaneously hug them, then sing a few lines of one of her favorite songs. They would roll their eyes and complain about the tune, then they would laugh, and hug and kiss her. Lili had that kind of effect on everyone.

Lili lived most of her life in Hillsborough and San Mateo. Her interests included socializing, travel and art. Lili sold real estate for 20 years on the Peninsula, and raised four wonderful children there.

Valery (husband John) Lytle, Joan (husband Matt) Love, Steve (wife Sandra) Ferguson, and Keith (wife Claudia) Ferguson, were with their mom at her bedside when she left this world.

Family graveside services took place at Mount Hope Cemetery.

The family asks that any donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

James H. Thomas

James H. Thomas, 74, died Jan. 14, 2005, at his home in Pacific Grove.

He was born March 25, 1930, in Hackette, Ark.

He and his late wife, Glenna F. Thomas (1932-2000) had retired to Pacific Grove 12 years ago after a long career as a residential building contractor and real estate broker in Santa Clara County. Before coming to Pacific Grove, they lived in Saratoga for 27 years. He came to California in 1948, was married in 1950, and began his building career in 1954.

Mr. Thomas was the youngest of 10 children and a veteran of the U.S Army.

He is survived by his only son Randy D. Thomas (born in 1956) and his wife Debbie; twin grandchildren Trevor and Tara; brother Harlon E. Thomas of Morgan Hill; and sister Pauline Garner of Santa Cruz.

Funeral services took place Jan. 19, at Hillside Evangelical Free Church. Interment followed at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Arrangements were made under the direction of The Paul Mortuary of Pacific Grove.
