Louis “Louie” Sandoval

Louis “Louie” Sandoval died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at Stanford Hospital. A native of Mendota, he was 50.

Mr. Sandoval moved to San Jose in 1956. He worked in fields and orchards for many years and met his wife, Stella. He then attended body shop trade school and started working in the body shop field. He and his family moved to Gilroy in 1987. He owned and operated L&M Body Shop in Campbell and San Jose until 2002 when he retired.

He was a member of Cry Out Christian Fellowship in San Jose, Gilroy Hispanic Chamber of Commerce where he was president in 2001 and 2002, past chairman of the Hospitality Committee of the Gilroy Garlic Festival and a board member of the Gilroy Gang Task Force and the Restore Justice Program in Gilroy. He will not only be missed by his family but by the entire community. His passion was working with the youth of the community.

He was the loving husband of Stella Sandoval of Gilroy; dear father of Louis, Monica, Lorenzo and Lucas Sandoval, all of Gilroy; grandfather of Tatyana, Breanna and Louis Jr. Sandoval, all of Gilroy; brother of Guadalupe Sandoval of San Jose, Hilda Paiz of San Jose, Sylvia Gonzales of San Jose, Elvia Sanchez of San Jose, Sammy Sandoval of San Jose, Tony Sandoval of Brentwood, Rosa Guerrero of Yucca Valley, Elida Sikora of San Jose, Alice DePiano of San Jose, Richard Sandoval of San Jose, Berta Bargas of Yucca Valley, Ninfa Sandoval of Scotts Valley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leonardo and Aurora Sandoval, and his brother Arnulfo Sandoval.

Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 21, at South Valley Community Church. Burial took place at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.

Arrangements were made under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.

The family asks that any donations be made to the Cry Out Christian Fellowship Building Fund, 476 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose, CA 95123.

Virginia Susan Santymire

Virginia Susan Santymire, 51, of Livermore, died Jan. 16, 2005, of complications from a kidney transplant.

Born in Denver,  Colo., she graduated high school in 1971 and married Albert Santymire on Nov. 12, 1971, in Denver. Always active in church activities and social events, she also enjoyed hand crafts and visiting the ocean. She lived in San Martin from 1993-2003 when she moved to Livermore.

She is survived by her husband Albert Santymire of Livermore; parents David and Addamae Brown of Lakewood,  Colo.; son Jason Santymire and wife of Fresno; grandsons Jadon, Cason and Jonathan Santymire of Fresno; brother Robert Brown of Farmington, N.M.; sister Patricia Brown and family of Lakewood; one aunt; one uncle; and seven cousins.

Services took place Jan. 19 at Discover Church in San Martin, where she worshiped with her family for 10 years.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be made to Christ’s Church of the Tri-Valley.

Julia Delgado

Julia Delgado died Friday, Jan.14, 2005. She was 77.

Julia lived in San Jose 40 years before she came to Gilroy in October 2002. She worked at food processing canneries in San Jose and Gilroy. She enjoyed cooking, family gatherings and shopping. Being surrounded by her children was the highlight of her life.

She is the loving mother of sons Felix and wife Norma, Javier and wife Donna of Modesto, Armando of San Jose, Arthur of Gilroy; daughters Gloria Aguilar and husband Ray of Gilroy, Delia Centeno and husband Richard of Gilroy, Anita Ramirez and husband Julian of San Jose; grandmother of Sandra, Ray, Jaime, April Ann, Charlie, Jackie, George M., Elena Ann, Irene, Christina, Paul, Monica, Javier Jr., Felix, Michael, Anita, Julian, Adam, Vinca, Monise, Moses; great-grandmother of 12; dear sister of Manuel Delgado and his wife Francisca, Celestino Delgado and his wife Maria Elena; many nieces, nephews from Mexico, cousins and good friends from San Jose and Gilroy.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brothers and sister.

Vigil Service will be at 7pm Jan. 19 at Habing Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 9:30am Thursday at the funeral home followed by Mass at 10am at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Gilroy.

Joe Fortino Sr.

Joe Fortino Sr. of Gilroy, died Jan. 13, 2005.

Joe enjoyed fishing, swimming, bowling, boxing and working with his hands. In the 50's, Joe owned Liberty Club, Club O.K. and Club 14-0, after which he went to work for Atlas Pools where he worked as a foreman until his retirement.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law Margaret, son Jim and his wife Pat Fortino, son Joe and his wife Peggy Fortino; grandchildren Gordon, Sandy, Tim, Andrea, Lieutenant John, Michelle, Mike, Keri, Amanda, Carolyn, Joe and Renee; great-grandchildren Amy, Ashley, Johnny, Jacob, Jessica, Lukas, Niko, Jenna, Daniel, Anthony and Dominic; brother to Frank and Ruby, Ron and Maxine, and Louise Fortino; nephew to Louise Nacarrato and Juanita Gallo. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Freda Fortino, son Robert Fortino, and brothers Sandy and Al Fortino.

Memorial services take place at 6:30pm on Thursday, Jan. 20, at Habing Family Funeral Home.

The family asks that any donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Jerry A. Boffilo

Jerry A. Boffilo of Morgan Hill died Jan. 13, 2005. He was 96.

He was born Oct. 1, 1908, in Irisna, Italy, to Porsia and Cesare Boffilo. As a young boy of 16 years, he traveled on a wooden ship to America where he met up with his father, settling in Summit, N.J. He worked in New York’s garment industry in his 20s and also was a taxi driver. He owned an Esso gas station until joining the U.S. Army in his 30s, becoming an artillery specialist. He became a union carpenter after leaving the service. Moving to California, he worked for the City of Cupertino, becoming the city’s first street department superintendent.

After retiring, he bought a cherry orchard on Half Road in Morgan Hill. He loved his cherry orchard, working it from early morning to dusk. He then retired from farming, sold his orchard, and moved to Woodland Estates where he lived the remainder of his life tending to his yard and his many fruit trees.

He is survived by three sisters; daughter-in-law Rhonda Boffilo; great nephew Gary Della Vecchia; and great-great nephews, Ryan Alter and Tyler Della Vecchia; and several other nieces and nephews.

His wife, Marion, and his only son Cesare preceded him in death.

Arrangements were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

Patricia Cabagua Cabatu

Patricia Cabagua Cabatu, 80, died Jan. 9, 2005, in Gilroy.

She is survived by her daughter Marilyn and her husband Wilfredo Asanon of Gilroy; grandsons Rodel Cabatu of the Philippines and Mark Asanon of Gilroy; sister Francisca Farinas of the Philippines; and cousin Myrna Cabana Garces of Stockton.

Vigil takes place at 5pm Sunday, Jan. 16, at Habing Family Funeral Home. Services take place at 9:30am on Monday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home followed by 10am Mass at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.

Art Ochoa

Art Ochoa died Jan. 22, 2005.

Art was born on Aug. 14, 1964. Most of the Ochoa family has lived in Morgan Hill for 35 years.

He is survived by his parents Ismael and Emma Ochoa; sisters Cecilia Ochoa, Elizabeth Gamez and Delia Duarte; brothers Ismael Ochoa Jr. and Richard Ochoa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Ida Ochoa.

Services were today, Jan. 29 at Hillcrest Funeral Home in El Paso,  Texas.
