Robert Joseph Frey

Robert Joseph Frey died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at the age of 64.

Bob was born on Sept. 21, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the second oldest in a large family. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1958, which led to a life of military precision and determination, along with an unsurpassed fascination for military history. Afterwards, Bob started his career at IBM Corp. in 1964, where he met and fell in love with Mary Ellen. They married in 1976, and moved to Morgan Hill in 1977. His charisma, good humor and acceptance will be missed greatly. We love you, Dad.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (”Heart of My Heart”); daughter Alison (”Missy”) and her fiancé Matt Ashworth, Eileen (”Leeny-bean”), Elizabeth (”Libber”), Lesley (”Leslita”); son Robert Joseph Jr. (”Roberto”); brothers Jack, Jim, George and Larry; and sisters Mary and Noreen.

He was preceded in death by his father Norman; mother Irene; brother George; and sister Noreen.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am today, Feb. 1, at St. Catherine’s Church.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be made to St. Catherine’s Reach Out or Live Oak Emerald Regime, P.O. Box 273, Morgan Hill, 95038.

Services were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

Mary Bridget Weinberger

Mary Bridget Weinberger, 87, died with her family at home on March 2, 2005.

Mrs. Weinberger moved to Gilroy in 1966 from Alberta, Canada. She was a graduate of the first LVN class at Gavilan College and worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Wheeler Hospital for 20 years. She was a native of County Limerick, Ireland, and the oldest of 14 children.

She was a member of St. Louise Hospital Auxiliary, Gilroy Community Seniors Advisory Board, Adams 4-H Leader, Lord’s Table Volunteer and Women in Touch. After retirement she traveled throughout the United States with her husband in their RV. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Wife of 57 years to the late Gary Weinberger; mother of Ann Weinberger Hayes and her husband, Jeff Collins of San Jose, Kathy Weinberger Dudgeon and her husband Tim Dudgeon of Hollister, and the late Mary Elizabeth Weinberger; grandmother of Elizabeth Dudgeon Pirie and her husband Michael of San Ramon, Margaret Dudgeon Garza and her husband James of Santa Rosa, and Ann Mary Dudgeon of Santa Rosa; great-grandmother of Cora Celeste Pirie of San Ramon, and Cameron Garrik Loughry of Santa Rosa. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Elizabeth Weinberger.

Memorial Services take place Saturday, March 12, at Habing Family Funeral Home.

The family asks that any donations be made to Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital or Gilroy Community Seniors.

Carmen Francis Filice

Carmen “Geezil” Francis Filice, 85, of Gilroy, died March 2, 2005, at his home under the loving care of Gloria, his wife of 63 years.

Mr. Filice was born Oct. 7, 1919, in San Francisco.

While serving in the Army during World War II, he married Gloria Bozzo and after his discharge started his 27-year stint at the Gilroy Dispatch working his way up to general manager and sports columnist.

In 1967 he and his son-in-law Everett Littlejohn, began their partnership at Gilroy Printers and Office Supplies, retiring in 1994. He was very active at St. Mary Parish, Sierra Club and Elks Lodge serving as Exalted Ruler in 1976. He was instrumental in the first city of Gilroy Parks and Recreation Commission, helping to develop Christmas Hill Park as the prototype for future city parks.

Aside from his wife, he survived by his children Patti Littlejohn and her husband Everett of Gilroy, John Filice and his wife Kim of Gilroy, and Toni Rinde and her husband Knute of Hollister; grandchildren Kristann and Mark Mangano, Michelyn and Frank Delgado, Tiffany and Richard Helmly and Wendy and Tony Solorio; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gabriel and Almeda Filice, his brother Stanley Filice, and great-grandson Ryan Mangano.

Funeral Mass was Friday, March 4, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial was at St. Mary Cemetery under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home

Jess Barron Perez

Jess Barron Perez died March 1, 2005, from a short illness at the Oasis Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico, at the age of 67.

Mr. Perez, a native of El Monte, had been a Santa Clara County resident living in Morgan Hill and Gilroy most of his life until he moved to Hollister in 1997. He was a graduate of Gilroy High School, was a veteran who served with the U.S. Navy, a member of the International Brotherhood Of Teamsters, San Jose local, the Knights Of Columbus and the Benevolent and Protective Order Of Elks of Gilroy.

He is survived by his spouse, Mauricia Perez; children Anita Torrez (husband John) and Vivian Gonzalez ( husband Ruben) both of Gilroy, Alexis Perez-Santiago (spouse Santos), Marrissa Nunez (spouse Fausto), Magali Sotelo, LeeRoy Sotelo, Felicia Perez, Natasha Perez, Michael Jess Perez, Jess Alex Perez, Gavin Fletcher, and Celeste Fletcher, all of Hollister; grandchildren Janae Torrez-Battle, Danielle Torrez, Cheryl Gonzalez, Michele Gonzalez, Chaylen Gonzalez, Allyssa Perez and Clarissa Nunez; siblings Eusebio Perez Jr., Marguerite Lopez and Lupe Sembera of Southern California, Manuel Perez, Jess A. Perez, Linda Sendejas, and John B. Perez of Gilroy; Rachel P. Sanchez of San Martin, Rudy B. Perez of Utah, Edward B. Perez of San Jose and Vivian A. Perez of Stockton.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation well be held from 3 to 5pm, Monday March 7, at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St., Hollister. Friends are invited to assemble at 6pm Monday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2121 Sunnyslope Road, Hollister for funeral services that begin at 7pm.

Family and friends will gather Tuesday morning at the church for a ceremony beginning at 11am. Interment will follow at 2pm at San Joaquin National Cemetery, Santa Nella, with military honors.

The family asks that any onations be made to the San Benito County Child Protective Services, Attn.: Foster Care Program, or to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Scholarship Program c/o the mortuary.

Antonio C. Lopez

Antonio C. Lopez, 92, died March 3, 2005 in Gilroy.

Antonio enjoyed living life to the fullest, especially having his family near him.

He is survived by his children Tony Lopez and his wife Maria, Ernesto Lopez and his wife Rosie, Alfred Lopez, Minerva Aguilera, Rudy Lopez, Norma Aguilera and Jesse Lopez and his wife Nora, all of Gilroy; and grandchildren Norma, John, Ernie, Jr., John, Rosie, Alfred, Jr., Judy, Maria, Steve, Tonya, Rudy, Jr., Sarah, Kenny, Jr., Karyssa, Kasandra, Ruben, Jesse Jr., and Roy.

Visitation will begin at 9 am Wednesday, March 9, at South Valley Community Church, 8095 Kelton Dr., Gilroy. Services follow at 10 am.

Arrangements are under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.

Jessica A. Snyder

Jessica “Jessie” A. Snyder died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at her home. Jessica, 77, was a native of San Juan Bautista.

She was the mother of Zack T. Snyder and his wife Dannie of Gilroy; grandmother of Zachary T. Snyder Jr. of Gilroy; step-grandmother of Shawn Headley and his wife Akemi of Ft. Bragg,  Calif., and Nicole Headley of San Jose.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland, in 1997.

Funeral services take place at 10am today, March 5, at Habing Family Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Church, followed by a burial at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.
