Lorrie Delmue-Fairless

Lorrie Delmue-Fairless died March 2, 2005, at her home in Green Valley, Ariz., She was 45.

A native of Morgan Hill, attended P.A. Walsh Elementary and Britton Junior High School where she was lead clarinetist in the school marching band. She graduated from Live Oak High School.

Delmue-Fairless was a gifted artist and musician. She enjoyed needlework projects and collected Gone with the Wind memorabilia.

Lorrie is survived by her husband, Dan; daughters Brianna Delmue and Veronica Herchkorn of Idaho; parents Robert and Janice Delmue of Morgan Hill; brothers David Delmue of Morgan Hill and Buzz Silva of San Jose; sister and brother-in-law Dena and Darrin Kehler; nieces and nephews, Buzz Silva Jr., Melanie Silva, David Lee Delmue, Nicholas Delmue, Wendy Delmue and Melanie Delmue.

A memorial service will be at 1pm Saturday, April 2, at  Johnson Funeral Home

In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made in Lorrie's memory to the World Wildlife Fund or a favorite charity.

Monnie Lappen

Monnie Lappen died March 14, 2005, in Gilroy. She was 59.

A native of California, she lived in San Martin for the last 26 years.

She loved being a “Grammie” to her nine grandchildren, spending quality time with all of them as much as she could.

Monnie was very family oriented and continued favorite family traditions in her home.

Monnie was a member of the San Martin Presbyterian Church for 25 years where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and sang in the choir. She became a member of the Gilroy Presbyterian Church in 2003, where she became very active in the congregation and the Joy Bible Study Group.

She served on several committees in the early 80's including the San Martin Planning and South County Airport Task Force. She took pride in being involved in her small town.

Monnie will be missed and remembered most for being a superior woman in all that she did. She was a very good friend to many and was very generous with her time and talents. After a long battle with breast cancer and other complications, she rest in peace with her Heavenly Father.

She is survived by her husband, Rick Lappen; daughter Sara Costello; son Matthew Lappen; stepchildren Tamera Lappen and Todd Lappen; mother Mollie Sinclair; brothers Casey and Mark Howard; and sister Jane McKellar.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Gilroy Presbyterian Church.

A memorial services will at 2pm Sunday, May 1, at Gilroy Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are through Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.

Manuel ‘Manny’ Martinez

Manuel “Manny” Martinez died March 20, 2005.

Manuel was encouraging to all who met him, especially to his family. His smile and green eyes will never be forgotten. He was coming out of a valley and God chose to take him home, but we will see him again.

He was a kind and loving dad to Evangel, Breaenne and Artie; oldest son of Larry and Henrietta Martinez; fiancé of Katalina Sandoval; brother of Laurena Basada (Terry), Lawrence Martinez (Christina), and Victor Dominguez (Dean); and grandson of Matias and Victora Martinez.

He also leaves a memory of love to his four nephews and three nieces, uncles and aunts, and all his primos and primas.

He was preceded in death by his baby sister Angelina and his Grandma Helen.

The family asks all those who knew Manuel “Nano,” to join them as they celebrate his life and his memory today, April 5. Visitation takes place from 3-5pm at  Johnson Funeral Home. Services follow at 6pm at Victory Outreach Church. Burial is private.

Mary Ann Hopf

Mary Ann Hopf of Gilroy died March 27, 2005.

She enjoyed sewing along with other crafts, yard duty at El Roble School, and spending time at the beach. She will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband William J. Hopf Jr.; children Dionne Powell of Gilroy, Amelia Simpson of Gilroy, Kenny Hopf of Gilroy, and Christine Laza of Tracy; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother Steve Calderon of San Jose.

Memorial Mass was celebrated April 1, at St. Mary Catholic Church.

Arrangements were made under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.

Helen ‘Jody’ Bennett Lucine

Helen “Jody” Bennett Lucine died March 20, 2005, in Gilroy.

She was born Oct. 2, 1927. She graduated from Palo Alto High School and St. Luke’s Nursing School, San Francisco, pursuing a nursing career at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia, Palo Alto Medical Clinic, UCSF and The Lahey Clinic in Boston.

Jody met her surviving husband, Dr. Andrew Lucine in Philadelphia and they married in the Stanford Chapel, Palo Alto, in 1957, beginning nearly 48 memorable years filled with love, respect and admiration of her many talents. She learned cooking from many “masters” including her mother Dorcas, her mother-in-law Ray Lucine of Philadelphia and certain members of Cordon Bleu, Paris.

She successfully carried out numerous weddings including those of her daughters, Helen Rachel, Anne Merrill (Didi) Howard and her son Albert Andrew.

Over the years, Jody has endeared herself to many people, especially her son-in-law George E. Howard III; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Colombet Lucine and four other “daughters” who think of and refer to her as “Mom,” Mary Wickershem of Gilroy, Padi Romero of Santa Cruz, Melany Dudas of Watsonville and Deanna Van Ooy Besvold of Long Beach.

She is survived by her older brother John Francis, his former wife, Polly, their daughter Erica Bennett Leary; and her younger brother Stephen Williams Bennett, his wife Linnea and their children Leslie, Merrill and Price. Jody also is survived by grandchildren Brandon and Travis Johnson, Catherine and George E. Howard IV and Katelin and Rachel Lucine.

She is preceded in death by her parents Merrill and Dorcas Bennett, and her mother-in-law Ray Lucine.

Friends are invited to a memorial service at 7pm on Monday, April 4, at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be made to Nursing Education Fund, Saint Louise Regional Hospital Foundation, 9400 No Name Uno, Gilroy, CA 95020.

Janet Carol Snapp

Janet Carol Snapp died April 2, 2005, at the age of 70. She was a San Jose native.

She enjoyed football, baseball, camping and casino visits, and was very devoted to children through Pop Warner Football for 23 happy years.

She was the loving mother to Kenneth Eggers of San Martin, Karen Eggers-Sanford of Salida, David Snapp of Los Banos and Daniel Snapp of Gilroy; devoted grandmother of eight; and sister to Jerry Sand of San Jose.

John Snapp, her husband of 30 years, died earlier.

A funeral service will be at 2pm Friday, April 8, at Oak Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel of Roses, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose.
