Byron Royer

Byron Royer died April 16, 2005, at St. Louise Hospital in Gilroy. He was 85.

He was born in Dark County, Ohio and grew up in Bradford, Ohio. Mr. Royer worked in Dayton until joining the U. S. Army/Air Force to fight in World War II. He was in the 8th and 9th Air Force and spent four years in Europe.

After the war, he married his sweetheart, Noreene, whom he had met while stationed in England. They relocated to  Washington, D.C., where their children, Roger and Darcy, were born. Mr. Royer spent his career with Burroughs Corp. and retired in 1985 after which the couple moved to Gilroy.

He loved to listen to good music, take care of his roses, play with his pets and be a super grandpa.

He is survived by his loving wife, Noreene, his bride of 59 years; son Roger and his wife Randy of Grand Rapids, Mich.; daughter Darcy and her husband Chuck of Morgan Hill; grandson Clay and his wife Sherrie; granddaughters Devon and Kendal; great-granddaughter Alexis; sister Ruth; sister-in-law Helen; nephew Phil and wife Patty and family; and many relatives in England, Canada and Australia.

He was truly a gentle soul and will be greatly missed by his family and many dear friends.

A private memorial is being planned.

Arrangements were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.

Janice M. Delmue

Janice Marie Delmue died April 26, 2005, at St. Louise Regional Hospital.

She was born in  West Virginia, and was a long-time resident of Morgan Hill. Jan worked as a waitress at the Capri and later as a wine hostess for Pedrizzetti Winery until her retirement. Jan enjoyed watching crime shows, musicals, and old westerns, especially John Wayne movies. An avid reader, Jan also enjoyed crocheting, tole painting and spending time with friends and family.

The family would like to thank everyone for their gifts, cards, support, and prayers during this difficult time.

She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Delmue of Morgan Hill; son David Delmue of Morgan Hill; daughter Dena and son-in-law Darrin Kehler of Gilroy; son Buzz Silva of San Jose; grandchildren Buzz Silvia Jr., Melanie Silva, Brianna Delmue, Veronica Herchkorn, David Lee Delmue, Nicholas Delmue, Wendy Delmue, Melanie Delmue; and several great-grandchildren.

Janice was preceded in death by her daughter Lorrie Delmue Fairless.

A Celebration of Life takes place at 11am on Tuesday, May 3, at  Johnson Funeral Home.

Monnie Lappen

Monnie Lappen died March 14, 2005, in Gilroy, after a long battle with cancer and other complications. She was 59.

She was a native of California and lived in San Martin for the past 26 years.

Mrs. Lappen was very family oriented and continued favorite family traditions in her home. She was a member of the San Martin Presbyterian Church for 25 years where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and sang in the choir. She became a member of the Gilroy Presbyterian Church in 2003, where she became very active in the congregation and the Bible group. She served on several committees in the early ’80s including the San Martin Planning and South County Airport Task Force. She took pride in being involved in her small town.

She will be missed and remembered most for being a superior woman in all that she did. She was a very good friend to many and was very generous with her time and talents.

She is survived by her husband, Rick Lappen; daughter Sara Costello; son Matthew Lappen; stepchildren Tamera Lappen and Todd Lappen; mother Mollie Sinclair; brothers Casey and Mark Howard; and sister Jane McKellar. She loved being a “Grammie” to her nine grandchildren, spending quality time with all of them as much as she could.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm Sunday, May 1, 2005, at the Gilroy Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are by Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.

Her family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Gilroy Presbyterian Church.

Frank A. Barbosa

Frank A. Barbosa, 79, died in Gilroy on April 22, 2005.

He worked many years as a tow truck driver and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Born in Los Angeles, he attended St. Mary's Church in Gilroy where he lived for over 50 years. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Mary Helen Barbosa of Gilroy, Frank Martin Barbosa Jr. of Gilroy, Marshall Barbosa of Gilroy, Phyllis and Tito Hernandez of Gilroy, Daniel Barbosa of Gilroy and Corrine and Ignacio Arias of Hollister; brothers and sister John Barbosa of Santa Maria, Phillip Barbosa of Bakersfield and Linda Barbosa of Reno, Nev. He also is survived by 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona, who died in 1991, and his twin brother, Ray, died in November 2004.

Friends can pay their respects from noon until 9pm today, April, 26, at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home in Hollister. Vigil Service will be at 7pm

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Wednesday, April 27, at Old Mission San Juan Bautista in San Juan Bautista. Friends can gather at the funeral home at 9:15am for a procession to the church.

Interment and graveside services will follow at San Juan District Cemetery with military rites being performed by the VFW from San Juan and Hollister.

Persiliana G. Robles

Persiliana Gonzalez Robles, 79, died April 20, 2005, at St. Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy after an illness. A native of Barranca de Santa Clara, Jalisco, Mexico, she had lived in Gilroy since l989. Previously she made her home in Watsonville where worked at frozen food processing plants.

She is survived by a stepson Manuel Robles of Fresno; stepdaughters Anita Gitmed of San Martin, Susanna Tidwell and Ramona Robles, both of Gilroy; a brother Manuel Gonzalez of Santa Ana; a sister Maria del Refugio Gonzalez Alvarez of San Martin; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Robles, in l986;

Friends are welcome at Mehl's Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., (Highway 152) on from 5-9pm today. Vigil Service at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday at 10:30am at St. Patrick's Church, 721 Main St., Watsonville, with burial following at the Valley Public Cemetery.

Hanzel Ione Auchue

Hazel Ione Auchue, 87, of Morgan Hill, died at home in her sleep from complications of cancer Sunday, April 17, 2005.

She was born May 8, 1917, in Ogden, Utah. She and her family migrated to California by way of Alberta, Calgary, Canada, to San Francisco and Mountain View. She spent 77 of her 87 years in California, and the last four in Morgan Hill.

Her move to Morgan Hill filled her life with joy. She loved the green of winter and spring, and she loved the flowers and trees. Many complained of the heavy afternoon “breezes,” but she loved to sit and watch the trees sway in the afternoons. She loved her bingo games and those who frequently played.

Her family was an integral part of her life. As the family grew and established individual identities, she was the “glue” that held the family together, and made sure that the love and contact continued. She was a loving wife to two husbands, a fantastic mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her daughter Jeannette I. Pacchetti of Santa Rosa; son Eugene J. Pacchetti of Morgan Hill; stepdaughter Peggy Myers of Salinas; sister Lenora Ridenour of Forest Grove, Ore.; sister-in-law Myrtle Liversedge of Auburn, Wash.; grandchildren Laurel Ann Davis, Cynthia Marie Short, Gary Wayne Seavey Jr., Phillip Matthew Seavey and Jill Bohnen; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Torquato J. Pacchetti, and her second husband, Lavern F. Auchue.

Cremation was under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home. Interment services for immediate family only takes place Friday, April 29, at Alta Mesa Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be sent in Hazel’s name to the Cancer Foundation.
