Virginia Helen Hansen

Virginia Helen Hansen, 61, of Morgan Hill, died Friday, April 8, 2005, at her home surrounded by loved ones.

Virginia (Ginny) grew up in the Lansing area where she met and married Bryce Hansen in 1961. They lived in many Michigan cities (Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, Elk Rapids and Holland) before moving to San Jose in 1980.

Ginny loved her family. She was a wonderful mother and she raised her children with great love and compassion. She was always there to catch you when you fell, encouraging your dreams, inspiring your happiness and holding your hand, helping you through it all. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and always felt at home whenever she was. Her best times were when her children and grandchildren were by her side.

After her diagnosis with breast cancer in 1999 she had a “can-do” spirit and wasn’t going to let it beat her. Through it all she was always willing to help anyone in need.

Ginny was one of the founding owners of CCS (Corporate & Commercial Services) in San Jose for 12 years before successfully selling the business. She continued a leadership role in the firm until December of last year.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Bill Friedmann; son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Ellen Hansen; son and daughter-in-law Russell and Monica Hansen; granddaughters Ashley Fr-iedmann, Kayla Hansen, Jillian VanVonderen; grandsons Nick Friedmann, Bryce Hansen, Jacob Hansen, Matthew Friedmann and wife Julie Friedmann, Griffin VanVonderen, Angel Gonzalez; great-grandson Austin Friedmann; mother Luella Wahl; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Mary Wahl.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bryce Hansen, and father George Wahl. Services will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Hospice of the Valley or the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Alfred Lamont Lawrence

Alfred Lamont Lawrence Sr. died April 9, 2005, at his home in Gilroy. He was 62.

He was a native of Richmond. Mr. Lawrence was a dedicated employee of the Union Pacific Railroad for over 42 years. He has been a lifetime resident of Santa Clara County.

Mr. Lawrence is survived by his beloved wife, Rita, of Gilroy; children Monty Lawrence of Monte Sereno, John and wife Darlene Lawrence of Gilroy, and Brad Lawrence of Gilroy; grandchildren Haley, Cassidy and Leighan; siblings Glennette Lawrence of Gilroy, Robin Montano of Sunnyvale, and Kandi Crowder of San Jose; parents Glen Lawrence of Corning and Retha Rentfro of San Jose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services took place April 15, at Habing Family Funeral Home. Burial was at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.

Darol L.  White

Darol L.  White of Gilroy died April 7, 2005, in San Jose, after a short illness. He was 66.

He was born on July 28, 1938 in Scottsdale, Ariz. Mr.  White was the oldest child of the first mayor of Scottsdale. He graduated from Scottsdale High School and moved to the Bay Area 35 years ago. He was a well-known breeder of German shepherd dogs and an acclaimed judge who traveled around the country for the American Kennel Club. Mr.  White moved to Gilroy in 1977 and was very active in St. Mary’s Church as Eucharist minister, Lay-Carmelite and Saturday night usher. He was past-president of the Serra Club of Gilroy, a member of the Gilroy-Morgan Hill California Republican Assembly Treasurer and steering committee member of the Northern California Osage Indian Association.

He is the loving husband of Loretta  White of Gilroy; dear father of Natalie Greenham (Mark) of Clovis, Charlene Kanak (Dave) of Reno, Nev., Connie Beck of Fresno; stepfather of Dawn Troncale (Tony) of Lodi and Dara Unterholzner (Steve) of Manteca; grandfather of Jason, Kenny, Joshua, Tina, John, Michael, Lia and Danny; brother of Marie A. Mastramico and Malcolm L.  White of Tracy, Mary Keltner (Gary) and Janie  White of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; and stepson of Lorraine  White of Paradise Valley. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins; and he leaves many friends including business partner, Rob Westphal of Modesto.

He was preceded in death by his mother Marie, father Malcolm, and sisters Susie and Malaine  White.

Funeral Mass took place April 14, at St. Mary’s Church.

Services were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy.

Laura Jeanne Baker-Hetzer

Laura Jeanne Baker-Hetzer died April 9, 2005, at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz.

She was born July 20, 1959, in San Jose. She graduated from Live Oak High School in 1977 and earned her bachelors degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She was awarded her masters degree from San Jose State University and practiced for more than 13 years as a licensed marriage and family therapist in Soquel. In her profession, she specialized in eating disorders; therapies involving individuals, couples, and groups. She had lived in the Santa Cruz area for more than 20 years, and had also worked as massage therapist at Spa Fitness.

Mrs. Baker-Hetzer had a passion for horses and was an avid dressage student. She loved her registered quarterhorse, Bailey, and worked very hard at mastering the sport of dressage with her riding instructor. She was also a familiar face in the recreational runner’s circles, often seen in Nisene Marks and on the local beaches. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her sense of beauty which she expressed in her garden, her dress and her home.

She is survived by her son Malcolm Hetzer; mother Marie Baker; brother Dave Baker; partner Bill Evans; brother-in-law Earl Boggs; and sister-in-law Margaret Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband Mal Hetzer, sister Janet, and father Richard.

The family requests that any kind acts of charity be made to a trust fund established for her son at Comerica Bank, 30 Rancho Del Mar Shopping Center, Aptos.

Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Jerome Lyson

Ronald “Ronnie” Jerome Lyson died April 10, 2005. He was 70.

Mr. Lyson was the owner-operator of National Polymer in Hollister.

He is survived by his wife Virginia; three of their children Joe, Ben and Betsy; 11 grandchildren; mother-in-law Helen Smith; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his daughters Katy Tamura and Kris Perry.

Memorial service took place April 12, at Abundant Life Foursquare Church in Hollister. Interment was private. Arrangements were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

Alberto G. Badua

Alberto G. Badua died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at his home in Morgan Hill. A native of the Philippines, he was 84.

Mr. Badua moved to Morgan Hill in 1984 from the Philippines to live with his daughter Rebecca and son-in-law, Romie Cortez. He worked as a laundromat janitor and a groundskeeper at the Village Avante for many years. Before moving to the United States he was a Barangay Chairman (captain) for more than 14 years in Esperanza, Umingan, Pangasinan, P.I. He was also a Filipino Army World War II veteran honored by the U.S. government.

He is husband of the late Josefina Badua; and father of Rebecca Cortez, Chita Dela Cruz, Jenette Badua and the late Ronie, Virgie, Virgilio and Danny Badua.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his brother and sisters.

Services begin at 10:30am today, April 16, at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. Funeral mass will be at 11:30am today at St. Mary’s Church,

Burial will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.

Ella Klinke

Ella Klinke, born on Jan. 3, 1906, died peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2005.

She was born in San Jose and died in Gilroy. She was the daughter of Peter and Elin (Anderson) Poulson from Sweden. She went to school in a horse-driven buggy and learned to drive a Motel-T Ford in 1925.

She married John Klinke Sr., in 1936 and was a member of the Almaden Grange and the Santa Clara County Farm Bureau. She was a longtime chicken rancher and harvested prunes.

Ella had a son (John Klinke, Jr.) and a daughter (Elinor Gimenez). She moved to Morgan Hill in 1957 and was a homemaker for about 60 years.

She is survived by her son John Klinke and his wife Ruth, daughter Elinor Gimenez and her husband Tony; granddaughters Ellen Gimenez and Elaine Gimenez and husband Joe Twight; great-granddaughter Karen Munyon; and close family friends Gigi and Daniel Ruta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; granddaughter Heidi Klinke; three sisters; and a brother.

Private gravesides services have been held. Burial took place at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose.
