Janice L. Brown

Janice L. Brown died Friday, May 20, 2005, in Morgan Hill.

Born in Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Brown enjoyed playing slots, pranks, being in the middle of a good fight, a good meal, shopping and spending time with her kids. She also loved riding the ferry along Coney Island. She really lived life.

She is the mother of Ida Elizabeth  Johnson Ferro and her husband Jose of Merced; grandmother of Brandy Pereira Juarez and her husband George of Morgan Hill, Ligia Fandrey and her husband Robert of Morgan Hill and Anntoinette Ferro and Nick Fuentes of Merced; great-grandmother of George Joseph Juarez of Morgan Hill, Karlie Elizabeth Juarez of Morgan Hill and Phillip Emery Ferro of Morgan Hill; sister of Evelyn Burton and her husband William of Bellvue, Kent.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emitt Emery Brown, and many brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be at 1pm Thursday, May 26, with funeral service at 3pm at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.

Ruby Mae Williams

Ruby Mae Williams died May 9, 2005, at home with her family at her bedside. She was 91.

Ruby was born on March 3, 1914, in Ardmore, Okla., to William and Rachel Collins. She moved with her family to Gilroy in 1946. Ruby enjoyed planting her vegetable garden and tending to her flowers. Her family loved her homemade apricot jam and fried pies. She had many interests, but dedicated her life to caring for her family.

Family members said they will miss her every day and will cherish her memory always.

She is survived by loving siblings Ruth Gardner of Dover, Okla., Juanita Colbert of Hayward and Jim Collins of Houston, Mo.; children Geri Mathus, Charles Butler and Leo Butler, all of Gilroy, and Jessie Hawkins of Santa Clara; grandchildren Ron Powell, Mike Powell, David Rutjes, Natalie Baker, Paul Butler, Kevin Metz, Debbie Butler and Charles Butler Jr.; great-grandchildren Anthony Rutjes, Sean Powell, Brooke Powell, Emily Powell, Brent Butler, Sherelle Butler, Amanda Baker, Justin Baker, Lindsay Baker, Chris Butler, Jacob Butler and Patrick Butler; and great-great-grandchildren Jessica Metz and Justice Rutjes.

Ruby is preceded in death by husbands Jess Butler, Dean Boyer, Salomon Brewer and Willard Williams; siblings Donnie, Onnie, Lorene, Jack, Charlie, Leona and Naomie; and grandson Steven Butler.

A celebration of Ruby’s life took place March 13, at Habing Family Funeral Home. Entombment was at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.

Richard Calvin Dyer

Richard Calvin Dyer died as a result of an automobile accident in Paicines on May 19, 2005. He was 48.

Mr. Dyer was born in Chico, and moved to San Martin from Huntington Beach just two years ago. He worked in floor restoration for many years, served in the Air Force from 1974-76 and attended St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hollister.

He is survived by his parents Cal and Erma Dyer of Buhl, Idaho; daughter Khristin Dyer of Huntington Beach; and his wife, Linda Dyer of Huntington Beach.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Amber Rose Dyer.

Private family internment will be at West End Cemetery in Buhl, Idaho.

Arrangements and cremation were made through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory in Hollister.

Marguerite E. Chisum

Marguerite E. Chisum, born Aug. 22, 1910, died May 12, 2005, in Morgan Hill.

She is survived by her nieces Elaine Butler, Bonnie Chisum and nephew Charles Chisum.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ike.

Arrangements were by  Johnson Funeral Home.

Marc Nelson Tolin

Marc Nelson Tolin died on May 30, 2005, following a long illness; may he find peace at last. He was 55.

Marc was a resident of Morgan Hill and an avid record collector and history buff.

He is survived by his father Malcolm Tolin, mother Evelyn Bradford, stepfather George Bradford, and sisters Nancy Tolin and Donna Schultz.

Memorial services take place at 2pm on Tuesday, June 28, at  Johnson Funeral Home.

Robert H. Schwartz

Robert H. Schwartz, 86, of Morgan Hill died June 15, 2005.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Peggy; his loving children Donna and her husband Tom Hawkinson of Pleasanton, Randal Schwartz and his wife Diane of Salinas, Jan and her husband Jimmy Ghiorso of Discovery Bay, Barbara and her husband Jim Randleman of San Jose, and Rick Schwartz and his wife Tricia of Gilroy; grandsons Graham, Ryan, Daniel, Eric, Mike, Matt, Robby and Davey; and their dog Megan.

Schwartz met his wife while attending Colorado College where he was a semi-pro baseball player and graduated with an engineering degree. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Schwartz served in World War II as a naval aviator in the South Pacific. His favorite hobbies were golf and tennis.

Memorial services take place at 11:30am on Thursday, June 30, at the Morgan Hill Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the Valley in San Jose or Caregivers at Tonga United Methodist Church in San Mateo.

Yvonne (Filice) Colombano

Yvonne (Filice) Colombano died at her home in Gilroy Saturday, June 11, 2005. She was 91.

Mrs. Colombano was born in Morgan Hill and moved to Gilroy as a child with her family. She graduated from Gilroy High School then owned and operated a beauty shop in Gilroy and Morgan Hill. She and her husband owned and operated The Gilroy Stationery Store in the 40’s.

They moved to the Bay Area, where she attended classes at U.C. Berkeley and Oakland Junior College. She became a real estate salesperson, then started working in medical practices until she started at Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame as a Unit Coordinator, where she worked for many years until she retired and moved back to Gilroy.

She was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, Retired Public Employee’s Association, Senior Citizens Club, Women in Touch II, Senior Friends, Senior Center, Associate member of South Valley Hospital, and a volunteer in the Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Gilroy.

She is survived by nephews, Leroy, Robert and Gary Filice of Salinas, Gerald W. Filice, Esq. of Somerset, Ronald W. Filice, D.D.S., of Danville, and David Filice of San Jose; niece, Carol Velarde of Pinole; sister-in-law, Marjorie M. Filice of Somerset; and 10 great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Colombano was preceded in death by her mother and father, Angelina and Domenic Filice; son, Jon Colombano; brothers, Carmen, Joseph, David and Clarence Filice; and sister, Eva Sinacore.

There will be a memorial Mass celebrated at 2:30pm, Sunday, June 26, 2005 at St. Mary’s Church, Gilroy.

Arrangements under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.

The family would appreciate memorials to the Italian Catholic Federation for Cooley's Anemia, 25 Denio Ave., Gilroy, CA 95020.
