Martha C. Dauberg

Martha C. Dauberg died March 2, 2003.

Martha was born in Scammon, Kansas, on May 11, 1908. She moved to California in 1924. She worked at Coast Radio for many years. In school, Martha won a state champion spelling contest.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Raymond, of Morgan Hill. Ray and Martha met at a dance at the Morgan Hill Grange Hall. They married and spent their lives together on a beautiful ranch on Watsonville Road. They enjoyed many years of golfing, traveling and were involved in Eastern Star.

She is also survived by her brother, Loren Atkinson of San Bernardino and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at  Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.

Arrangements were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

Sam Peery

Sam Peery died March 1, 2003, at his home in Gilroy of natural causes.

A native of Payson, Utah, Peery was 68 years. He had lived in Morgan Hill for 17 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Saints, Morgan Hill Second Ward.

Peery is survived by son Ryan and Lea Peery of Morgan Hill; daughters Jill and Shane Barado of Novato, Pam and John Maxfield of Salt Lake City, Utah, Susie and Russ Cutler of Everett, Wash., and their mother Nan Peery of Morgan Hill. He also is survived by brother Dale and Linda Peery of Spanish Fork, Utah, eight grandchildren and well as nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services will be held at Payson Cemetery in Payson.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.

Mia Verona

Mia Verona of Morgan Hill died in the early morning of March 3, 2003, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on Feb. 20, 1948, in Korea and came to California in 1972. She was married to Sam Verona in March 1973. They have lived in Morgan Hill since 1977. She was the owner of Creekside Cleaners in Morgan Hill since 1991.

During her last 28 years of kidney dialysis, Mia faced her challenges with an enthusiasm for life and a “never-give-up” attitude. She was a very special person.

At Mia’s request, there will be no public services. However, within your own family, Mia wanted all to remember her by sharing a memory and a prayer for her. At a later time, her husband Sam will take her ashes to be with his family in Montana.

She is survived by her husband, Sam; son Michael; mother Son Bi Lee; sister Sang Young Kim; brother-in-law Kyung Su Kim; nephews Peter and John Kim; niece Susan Sung; sister-in-law Kathy Stowell; and other family members in Korea.

Mia was well known at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, and appreciated the wonderful care she was always provided. Mia requested that any donations on her behalf be made in Memory of Mia Verona for Kidney Dialysis Projects to: El Camino Hospital Foundation, 2500 Grant Road, Willow Pavilion, Mountain View, CA 94040.

June Claire Dauberg

June Claire Dauberg of Morgan HIll, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, after a long illness. She was 82.

Mrs. Dauberg was born in Smith, Nev., and moved to Morgan Hill, at age 7 where she lived for the past 75 years. She spent the last six months in the care of her daughter, son-in-law, and husband in Sonora.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and granchildren as well as golfing with her husband and friends in Morgan Hill and Gilroy. She was also a life member of the Manzanita Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star of Morgan Hill.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Leonard Dauberg of Morgan Hilll; son and daughter -in-law Gary and Marilyn Dauberg of Morgan Hill; daughter and son-in-law Paula and John Schwartz of Sonora; grandchildren Lance Neufeld of Tracy, Dayna Neufeld of Newark, Laurie Salter of Gilroy, Pam Alosi of Idaho, David Schwartz of San Francisco, Jana Schwartz-Stein of Santa Rosa, and Tom Schwartz of Scotts Valley; great-grandchildren Connor Neufeld of Tracy, Kurt and Christopher Salter of Gilroy, Jessica Alosi of Mackay, Idaho, Eric Lumley of Mackay, Idaho, Senya Stein of Santa Rosa and Ethan Schwartz of San Franciso; and sister-in-law, Betty Robershotte of Mesa, Ariz.

Mrs. Dauberg was preceded in death by her brother Jac Robershotte of Gilroy and her sister Ellyn Merrick of Salinas.

A memorial service takes place at noon Saturday at Morgan Hill Methodist Church, 17175 Monterey Road.

The family asks that any donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 553 Pilgrim Drive., Suite C, Foster City, CA.

John R. Brannon

John R. (Jack) Branon Sr., 68, died Feb. 28, 2003, with his family at his side.

Born April 26, 1934, in Fairfield, Vermont, Branon was a graduate of Saint Michael’s College in Winooski, Vermont. After service in the Army he moved to California. He was a retired Realtor, founder and owner of Branon Realty and was a longtime resident of Morgan Hill. Jack was one of 10 children born to E. Frank and Mary Branon of Fairfield.

He is survived by his wife Sally; sons John Jr. and Todd; brothers the Rev. Phillip Branon of South Hero, Vermont, Ralph Branon of Burlington, Vermont, and Paul Branon of Acton, Mass.; and many relatives and close friends across the country.

He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Barry Branon, Francis Branon, Charlene Branon Cosgrove, Robert Branon, Rosemary Branon and Charles Branon.

Jack will be buried in Fairfield later this year.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to Saint Andrews School Capital Campaign Fund, PO Box 2789, Saratoga, CA 95070.

Rosemarie Contreras

Rosemarie Contreras, 52, died March 3, 2003, in San Jose. She was a resident of Morgan Hill.

Rosemarie enjoyed helping elderly people. She was a support for persons needing to receive dialysis treatment. She liked her plants and was known to have a green thumb. Among her greatest loves were her animals, especially her dog, Sonny.

Rosemarie will be missed by many.

She is survived by her loving brothers and sisters Mickey Contreras of San Jose, Pablo Contreras of Bremerton, Wash., Francisco Contreras of Waukegan, Ill., Delores Contreras of Campbell, Edward Contreras and wife Mickey of Morgan Hill, Angel Contreras of Glendale, Ariz., Ramon Contreras of Henderson, Nev., and Tom Contreras and wife Joey of St. Helen; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gumecindo and Marcella Contreras.

A memorial service was at 1 p.m. today, March 7, at  Johnson Funeral Home.
