Marie C. Turturici

Marie C. Turturici died May 10, 2003, in Gilroy at the age of 88.

She was born Sept. 8, 1914, in San Jose. Marie retired from Greyhound Lines after many years of service.

She was the loving sister of Leanore MacLellan, Sal Turturici and Jo Pfeifer; loving sister-in-law of Marian Turturici, the late John MacLellan and the late Frank Pfeifer; dear aunt and Godmother of Michael and Anne MacLellan and Kathleen and Zachary Schroeder, Diane and David Hubble, Marilyn and Roger Tillery, Steve and Barbara Pfeifer and Joseph and Kathy Turturici; great-aunt of 13; and great-great-aunt of 11.

A visitation will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at St. Catherine Church with Funeral Mass at 5 p.m.

Private intermnet will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1715 S. Bascom Avenue, Suite 100, Campbell, CA 95008.

Charles E. Reed

Charles E. Reed, 73, died May 10, 2003.

Charles served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a tool maker at Litton Industries and construction superintendent.He was a resident of Morgan Hill for 41 years.

He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Reed of Morgan Hill; devoted father of Jane and Anthony Goularte, Nancy and Jim Whalen, Mike and Debbie Reed, Kim and Darrell Clayton and Bill Nolan; and loving grandfather of Courtney and Amber Whalen, Michael and Christian Reed, Shane, Tasha and Jacqueline Clayton and Tricia Goularte.

A memorial services will be at 11 a.m. May 16, at the First Baptist Church, 305 W. Main Ave.

Grace Mary Tomasello

Grace Mary Leonti Tomasello, born June 1, 1924, in Corona, died May 13, 2003, in Gilroy.

Upon the death of her mother at an early age, Grace was raised by her aunt, Teresa Puliafico. Grace graduated from Live Oak High School in 1944 and was married to John Joseph Tomasello on Sept. 5, 1948. They lived in San Francisco, where her children were born, and moved to Gilroy in 1959. She worked for Filice and Pirrelli Canning Co. for more than 20 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the local Sons of Italy Chapter. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Her interests included gardening, cooking Sunday meals for her family, playing bingo at the Senior Citizens Center and at Gilroy Healthcare, and watching movies.

Mrs. Tomasello is survived by her son and his wife, Sal and Annie Tomasello of Gilroy, her son and his wife, Frank and Carol Tomasello of Fresno, her son and his girlfriend, John Tomasello and Linda Stites (and her daughter Laura Miller) of Gilroy. She is the grandmother of Melissa and Chip Beardsley, Mark Tomasello, Joe Tomasello and Rick Tomasello and great-grandmother of Andrea Tomasello and Jacob Beardsley.

Mrs. Tomasello was married to her late husband, John Joseph Tomasello, for 32 years, before he died in 1980. She is the daughter of the late Paulina Puliafico and Frank Leonti and the sister of the late Rose Bozzo.

Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy, followed by Vigil and Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church. The Mass will be celebrated by her nephew Father Vince Mesi, pastor of the Mission in Santa Barbara. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary Cemetery, Gilroy.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family asks that any donations be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life (Gilroy) or the Gilroy Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, 8170 Murray Ave. Gilroy, CA 95020.

Mary Louise Keig

Mary Louise Keig died Wednesday, May 14, 2003.

She was born in Casper, Wyo., on Jan. 24, 1924 and moved with her family to California in 1935. Mary Louise graduated from UC Berkeley in 1946 and later earned a teaching credential from San Jose State.

In Morgan Hill she was a longtime member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church. There she trained and scheduled lay readers and lectors; she was active in outreach activities and served as senior warden on the St. John’s vestry.

Mary Louise was a longtime member of the Morgan Hill Branch of the American Association of University Women, and served one term as president. From age 11 she was an avid fan and student of opera and served one year as president of the San Jose Opera Guild. For many years she was a docent for in school opera programs.

Mary Louise is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bill Keig; sister Catherine Long; children William Edmonds, Cathy, Carol and Leslie; and grandchildren Margaret, Elizabeth, Ryan and Douglas.

Friends are invited to attend a burial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the St. John the Divine Building Fund, 17740 Peak Ave., Morgan Hill 95037.

Arrangement were made under the direction of Byrgan and Co., Los Gatos.

William D. Gansberger

William D. Gansberger, 60, died May 12, 2003, at his San Juan Bautista home.

A native of Hollister, he had lived all his life in San Benito County and was a member of The Sheetmetal Workers’ Union Local 104. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association. Gansberger was an avid duck hunter.

His is survived by his partner, Darlene Anger of San Juan Bautista; son Michael Gansberger of San Martin; brother and his wife, Bob and Debbie Gansberger of San Juan Bautista; grandchild Kaitlin Gansberger of San Martin; nephew Donald Gansberger of Biloxi, Miss.; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son David Gansberger who died in 1988.

A celebration of his life took place May 18 at the San Juan Bautista VFW Hall.

Arrangements and cremation were through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory. Private family inurnment is planned.

The family asks that any donations be made to the Visiting Nurses’ Association or Ducks Unlimited c/o Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home.

Mary Grace Leonard

Mary Grace Leonard, 79, of Morgan Hill, died May 15, 2003.

She was born in Gunnison,  Colo., on March 9, 1924, to Harry and Bridget Vader. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II for two years. She was a member of Hope Rehabilitation, Gateway Center, Special Olympics and St. Catherine Parish.

In 1946 she married Arnold L. Leonard to whom she was married for 49 years until his death in 1996. They moved to California to start their life together. They worked on several cattle ranches in Willits, Oakdale and San Simeon, before settling in Morgan Hill in 1953, where they raised their family. She worked at the James Boys Ranch, Pedrizzetti Winery Tasting Room and Kirigin Cellars Tasting Room.

She also was preceded in death by a son Arnold Lee Leonard Jr.

She is survived by her children Mike Leonard of Morgan Hill, Kay Boyce of Morgan Hill, Sandy Ponzini of Hollister and Stephen Leonard of Morgan Hill; brothers Chuck Pressler of San Jose, Harry Vader and Hugh Pressler, both of Gunnison, and five grandchildren.

Funeral Mass was at 1 p.m. today, May 20, at St. Catherine Church. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Gilroy.

Services were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.
