Anthony Costa

Anthony Costa of Fresno died May 20, 2003, after a difficult battle with lung cancer. He was 75. Costa, born in Fresno, lived from 1966-73 in Morgan Hill’s Paradise Valley community. While a SouthValley resident, he was an active member of the San Martin Lions’ Club and the San Martin Horseman’s Association. He returned to his native Fresno 20 years ago.

A retired District Principal Auditor who had enjoyed a long and successful career with the California State Board of Equalization, Mr. Costa had, in retirement, also represented taxpayers as a licensed Enrolled Agent. As a young man he served both in the Merchant Marines and in the U.S. Army.

In his spare time Mr. Costa enjoyed tending a fruit and vegetable garden, rebuilding cars and tractors, reading and spending time with his family. His loving and honest nature will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Anthony Costa is survived by his wife, Toni of Fresno; children Michelle Costa of Cambria, Kim Costa of Oakland and Kevin Costa of Gilroy; granddaughters Brandi and Vanessa Rodriguez of Gilroy, Jasmine and Jenelle Costa of Morgan Hill and Natalie Rodriguez of Cambria; grandson Danny Boswell of Fremont; niece Dena Gorski of San Jose and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Valerie L. Costa, who died in a 1982 plane crash.

A celebration of Costa’s life was held May 23, at Northwest Chapel, Fresno. Private graveside services at Mount Hope Cemetery, Morgan Hill, will occur soon.

The family asks that any donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Richard H. Barrow

Richard H. Barrow died June 4, 2003, in Corning. Richard was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., on May 28, 1937, to the late Mary and Hudson Barrow of San Martin.

Richard joined the Air Force in 1954 and after 10 years in the service returned to Morgan Hill where he worked for PG&E for 33 years until retirement in 1995. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Fish and Game and Elks Lodge and was an avid sports enthusiast, loved to fish and always ready to enjoy a good laugh.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Debbie Barrow; daughter Janet Mauzey of Red Oak, Okla.; sons Ricky Barrow of Wilburton, Okla., and Brian Kiefer of Corning; granddaughters Desiree, Sarah and Rainey Mauzey and McKenna Kiefer; grandsons Casey Barrow and Chase Kiefer. He was the brother of Marilyn Peterson of San Martin and uncle to Beverly Castillo, Steve, Johnny and Shawna Pacheco, Julie Armstrong, Carrie Statford and Christie Castle. He also is survived by several great nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at  Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Corning. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to a favorite charity or St. Elizabeth Hospice, 1425 Vista Way, Red Bluff.

Raul Muniz Jr.

Raul Muniz Jr., 47, died Monday, June 9, 2003, in Modesto of cancer. He was a Gilroy native.

Raul was raised in Gilroy. He attended Gilroy High School. After school, he went to trade school to be a certified welder and worked for General Electric, San Jose, for many years. Moved to Modesto six years ago. He enjoyed riding Harley-Davidsons and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Modesto.

He is survived by daughters and their husbands, Stacie and Danny Soto of Gilroy, Melanie and Benny Soto of Gilroy and Amber Muniz and her fiancé Danny Sandoval Jr. of Gilroy. He was the grandfather of Mariah, Marcus, Raeann, Nathaniel and one grandson due in September, Benny Jr. He is the son of Raul Sr. and Josephina Muniz of Modesto; brother of Mary Muniz Guevara and her husband Kelly of Santa Nella, Ruben Muniz Sr. of Gilroy, Alfred and his wife Joann Muniz of Gilroy, Phillip Muniz Sr. of Gilroy, Abel Muniz and Roy Muniz both of Modesto. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services were this morning, June 17, at Habing Family Funeral Home followed by burial at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.

Kenneth Paul Carlton

Kenneth “Ken” Paul Carlton died Friday, June 13, after a lengthy battle with ALS (Lou Gherig’s Disease).

Ken was born Dec. 9, 1936, to Bertha (Fisher) and Ruel Carlton in Reedly. He attended Live Oak High School. He then began his career with IBM, where he retired after 34 years.

Ken married Barbara Jean Atchley on July 5, 1957. They moved from Morgan Hill to Longmont,  Colo., in 1965. They relocated to Tucson, Ariz. with IBM, but ultimately kept Longmont as their home. They retired to Lake Havasu, Ariz. He then enjoyed working part-time at the London Bridge Golf Course and as the park manager at Sunset Mobile Home Park.

An avid fisherman, he spent time with his good friend Bob Erwin along the Colorado River in Lake Havasu. He enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren along the shoreline of any lake or river. Most of his free time included hunting, golfing and flying his Cessna airplane. Ken and Barbara also traveled and enjoyed music and reading.

The last few months of Ken’s life were full of love and smiles from the very caring staff of Boulder County Hospice.

Ken is survived by his wife Barbara; son Tom and wife Rhonda of La Veta,  Colo.; daughter Karen and husband Mark Zuege of Longmont; grandchildren Sarah Zuege of Colorado Springs, Calvin Carlton of La Veta and Jason Zuege of Longmont; brothers Vernon of San Jose, Larry and wife Sue of Spokane, Wash., and Steven and wife Pam of Missoula, Mont. Ken had a special fondness for Barbara’s sisters, Theda and husband Bob Rumery, Wanda and husband Frank Taitague, Shirley and husband Ron Rodrigues, Faye and husband Jack Bullard and brother Lewish and wife JoAnn Atchley. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ken is preceded in death by both parents and his sister Judy Trevino of Vacaville.

A memorial service will be Saturday, June 21, at 10 a.m. at the Ahlberg Funeral Home in Longmont. There will be a cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be sent to Hospice Care Boulder/Broomfield Counties or the ALS Association - Rocky Mountain Chapter in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

Charles Chamberlain

Charles “Chuck” H. Chamberlain of Carmel died at Community Hospital in Monterey. He was 73.

Chamberlain was born on Jan. 24, 1929, in Colorado. He lived 65 years on the Monterey Peninsula and also in the Sacramento area with his daughter Christy and many places around the world while serving in the US Army for 22 years. He received the Bronze Star, Gallantry Cross with Gold Star (Vietnam), National Defense Service and Army Commedation Medal.

He worked for Monterey Savings and Loan for 10 years in real estate development and as a branch manager. A partner with his brother Pat in Chamberlain Brothers Transport and with his daughter Christy in a retail business.He was and active member of the Pacific Grove Heritage Society and the Pacific High School Alumni Association. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family and will be remembered for his great charm, laugh, and spirit.

Chamberlain is survived by his wife, Susan Farris Chamberlain, of Carmel formerly of Morgan Hill; daughter Christy  Jones of Fair Oaks; grandson Charlie D. Chamberlain of Salem, Oregon; mother Louise Orchard and stepfather John Orchard of Auburn; brother Ken Chamberlain of Auburn; and stepbrothers Jack Orchard, of Carmel and Neil Orchard of Rancho Cordova.

He was preceded in death by his former wife Lorraine Chamberlain, father Charles Chamberlain, son Jeff Chamberlain and brother Pat Chamberlain.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Hacienda Carmel. Arrangements are under the direction of Monterey Cremation Service.

The family asks that any donations be made to Pacific Grove Heritage Soceity, 605 Laurel Ave., Pacific Grove, CA

Mildred E. Richman

Mildred Eloise Linville Richman of Thompson Falls, Mont., died Oct. 21, 2002, at Evergreen Hot Springs Nursing Home, Hot Springs, Mont. She was 93.

She was born Feb. 20, 1909, in San Francisco, attending schools in California. On July 21, 1935, she married Daniel Levi Richman and lived in Morgan Hill as a farmer’s wife, then becoming a veteran’s widow in 1963.

After living in Morgan Hill for 52 years, she moved to Thompson Falls in 1989 to be with her daughter and family. She enjoyed traveling during her retirement years to Israel, Europe, Canada and throughout the United States.

Mildred is survived by her sister Edna Yancey of Central Point, Ore.; daughter Darlene Glover of Thompson Falls, Mont.; grandson Jack Glover and wife Jenny of Superior, Mont.; great-grandson, Danny Glover of Helena, Mont.; great-granddaughter Tabitha Glover of Thompson Falls; step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, her husband and a son.

Services were today, Nov. 6, at  Johnson Funeral Home followed by burial at Mount Hope Cemetery.
