Victoria Garcia Velador
Victoria Garcia Velador “Tia Victoria,” 69, of Gilroy, died July 9, 2003, in Elkhart, Ind., after an extended Illness.
She was born Dec. 23, 1933, on Rosanna Street in Gilroy to Trinidad and Mary Acosta. She was the wife of the late Martin Velador. Victoria had recently moved to Indiana with her son, Robert.
Mrs. Velador was raised and educated in Morgan Hill and moved to Gilroy to raise her family. Victoria and her late husband were members of “The Family Linkage Foster Care” in Gilroy for more than 12 years. Victoria was always willing to open her home to anyone in need. Mrs. Velador was employed at Gilroy Foods for many years, and also worked at Orchard Supply Hardware in Gilroy.
She has four daughters, three sons and two stepsons: Vickie (Ron) Honey of San Jose, Suzanne Garcia-Trujillo (John) of Susanville, Sylvia Garcia-Dutra (Frank) of Morgan Hill, Sandra Garcia Fortino (Gordy) of Gilroy, Adolph J. Garcia (Linda) of Parkhill, Okla., Robert J. Garcia of Elkhart, Ray B. (Bev) Garcia of Hoopa, Marty Velador, George Velador both of San Jose; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rachel Estrada of Morgan Hill; and her brother, Guadalupe Silva (Julia) of Morgan Hill.
The father of her children, Ramiro Garcia of Gilroy and many nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was preceded in death by sisters Delfina Torres, Helen Martin, Rose Ortiz and a brother Johnny Acosta.
Vigil Service will be at 7 tonight, July 15, at Habing Family Funeral Home. Services begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The family asks that any donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Richard D. Manning
Manning was born in Childress, Texas, on Dec. 14, 1916. He was premature and kept in a shoebox in the oven after his birth.
He married Dorothy Pauline Pruitt, July 18, 1936. They moved to California with hopes of the American Dream. They lived in Santa Clara County for almost 70 years. They owned the Morgan Hill Ready Mix plant, later trading it for the Morgan Hill Motel. He later added apartments and a trailer court. He built several housing tracts in Morgan Hill and Gilroy. Manning Avenue in Gilroy is named after him.
He was a member of the Masconic Lodge for almost 50 years and was a Shriner. He served in the Army during World War II. He took great pride in the military and the country he loved. He always honored his country by wearing flag pins, flying the flag, and enjoyed gardening, roses, birds, John Wayne memorablia, western attire, his cowboy boots, buckle and bollo tie collection.
He is survived by his second wife, Estelle Scott Manning. They lived happily at Woodland Estates with their kitten, “Little Richard.” He took pride in his family, Michael and Deanna Manning of Yorba Linda, the Rev. Mark and Dottie Stewart of Gilroy, Patty and Tim Nickolson of Redding; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, today, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 17720 Monterey St., Morgan Hill.
A graveside service took place at 10 a.m. today, July 18, at Oak Hill Memorial Park, San Jose.
Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Richard Manning
Richard D. Manning, a longtime resident of Morgan Hill, died July 13, 2003. He was 86.

Ronald Cressy
Ronald Cressy died July 24, 2003, at his home in Morgan Hill after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born October 14, 1941 to Vernon and Mae Cressy in Yankton, S.D., he married Mary Ann Knutson of Hartington, Neb., in 1962. Ron served in the USAF from 1961-83, retired as a captain and settled in Morgan Hill. He then worked for ADAC Laboratories for 10 years.
Ron will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary Ann; children Steven and Michelle; six grandchildren; his mother, brothers and many friends and relatives.
His father and infant son preceded him in death. Internment will be Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery
in Gustine. A memorial luncheon will be held Sunday, Aug. 3 at 1 p.m. at the home of Bob and Shirl Branaugh at 979 Oak Manor Way, Pleasanton. Please RSVP 925-461-8558.

Jesse Lewis Warrick Jr.
Jesse Lewis Warrick Jr., a retired master sergeant, state employee and businessman died in the arms of his sons and grandson on Friday, July 25, 2003, at North Bay Hospital in Fairfield. He was 84.
Mr. Warrick was married to Nell Warrick for more than 60 years, raising three sons Jesse III of Fairfield, Gregory of Morgan Hill and Russell of Morgan Hill. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Warrick, or “Two Gun” as his close friends called him, was born in Seigo, Texas, Aug. 11, 1918. He attended Texas A&. in 1937, where he played baseball.
In 1938, Mr. Warrick joined the Army Air Corp where he served a distinguished 22-year career, retiring in 1960. During his Air Force career, he traveled the world including stops in New Guinea, Europe, Guam and Japan, serving as an aviation logistics sergeant. There were many tales told to his three sons about aborigines, catching and wrestling 5-foot kangaroos and meeting headhunters in the jungles of New Guinea.
Prior to his retirement, he was awarded the highest peacetime award for heroism, when he pulled an injured airman from a burning C-124 Globemaster that had crashed just outside Travis Air Force Base. Choosing to downplay the incident, Mr. Warrick never mentioned the crash to friends or family. It was several days later, that Air Force officials found out his actions and awarded him with this distinguished award along with a parade in his honor.
After retiring from the military, Mr. Warrick took on a second career as a correctional officer for the state of California, retiring from the Vacaville Medical Facility in 1977. While working at the medical facility, he served as president of the California Correctional Officers Association, representing the interests of the officers to prison officials and state government officials and lobbyists.
In 1975, prior to his second retirement, Mr. Warrick and his wife, Nell, started a CB radio business. Once retired from the state, he and Nell traveled the western states in their 30-foot trailer, selling radio equipment at state fairs and CB jamborees. For the next 28 years, he continued the CB radio business in a small shop at home. His son Jesse continues his business today.
Mr. Warrick had been a Mason and a Shriner for more than 50 years and just last year, he participated in the Shriner’s annual parade. His other interests were gardening, fishing and golf. He was an accomplished golfer, playing on the correctional officers golf team for more than 15 years.
He was one of those unforgettable characters; raised during the depression, fought in two wars, traveled the world, having multiple careers, a great memory, quick wit, and was a wonderful brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his three sons, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and brother Bill Warrick.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 1600 Union Ave., Fairfield.
