Jim Trelut
Jim Trelut, husband to Lynda, father to Alex, son to Isabel and brother to George Trelut died Oct. 2, 2003, at age 57.
Cancer got him, but not until the very end. He lived a life of integrity and honesty and he got through the last four years the very best he could.
Jim was born in San Francisco and was a 49er fan through thin and thick and thin again. He loved his Serra High School classmates of 1964 as they were friends for life. San Mateo was his home until he left to finish college in South Lake Tahoe where he accumulated more experiences, friends and a wife. Of that time, he particularly liked telling friends about his lighting job in the theater at Sahara Tahoe and his favorite story of running 41 Elvis shows.
Gilroy has been home since 1974 where Jim built a human resource department for Nob Hill Foods. The “dean of boys” truly loved the job best when he was able to creatively help employees with work problems.
In retirement, Jim found great pleasure racing formula Mazdas at Infinion Raceway. He looked forward to golf on Thursdays with his buddies who counseled him on the finer points of retirement as well as the game. He had a life-long love of numismatics.
Jim spent a tour in Vietnam that made an indelible impression on him.
A Frenchman in spirit all his life, Jim always celebrated Bastille Day. He tried unsuccessfully to learn French and settled for drinking French wine instead.
Jim also leaves sister-in-law Carol Trelut and family; sister-in-law Chris Bevilacqua and husband Don and family; brother-in-law Michael Bonfante and wife Claudia and family; and cousin Pat Hegerhorst and husband Carl.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers any donations be made to the Gilroy Foundation or St. Joseph’s Family Center of Gilroy. No matter what, remember him as “a nice guy” because that’s what he wanted.
A memorial services took place Monday at the Gilroy Presbyterian Church, under direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.
David Troy Vickery
David Troy “Hoss” Vickery of Gustine died Oct. 2, 2003 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock. He was 80.
Mr. Vickery, a native of Winfield, Ala., had lived in Gustine for 33 years. He was a self-employed mechanic for 40 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Martin and was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Newman and a past member of the Masonic Lodge in Alabama.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Vickery of Gustine; children Troy W. Vickery Sr., David R. Vickery and Kathy Soesa, all of Gustine, Jimmey E. Vickery of Ceres, Luther R. Vickery of Woodville, Dorothy L. Gomes of Modesto and Judy Evans of Crows Landing; stepchildren Linda Smith of Sacramento and Beverly Donovan of Gustine; sister, Bertie Davis of Winfield, Ala.; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service took place Oct. 4 at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Gustine. Burial was private.
Services were under the direction of Hillview Funeral Chapel in Gustine.
The family asks that any donations be made to the American Heart Association, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, CA 94010.
Gaspar Marion
Gaspar Marion died Oct. 6, 2003, in Gilroy.
Marion was born in Switzerland, 96 years ago.
Marion came to the San Francisco in the early 1900s with his father. He worked in San Francisco in the restaurant business. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
Marion came to Gilroy in 1935 during the depression at the suggestion of Yobo Urjevich whom he met on a fishing trip in Quincy. He was hired by the late George Milias Sr. to manage the bar at the then Milias Hotel at Sixth and Monerey streets in Gilroy. He worked at the restaurant as a bartender for 55 years. Urjevich managed the restaurant. During his career at the hotel, he met many famous people including, Bing Crosy, Betty Grable, Will Rogers, Joan Blondell and Herbert Hoover. Gaspar was a horse player, it was his one passion. He was a member of the American Legion Post 217 in Gilroy.
He was the husband of the late Vivian Marion.
Marion is survived by stepsons Don Littlejohn of Gustine, Leonard Littlejohn of Tennessee, Mary McNeff of Michigan; grandchildren Donna, Debbie, Michelle and Shannon Littlejohn, Steve, Doug, Jan and Diane Littlejohn, Mary, Bill, Mark McNeff, and Susan, Brenda, Cynthia, Michael and David Espinoza and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.
The family would appreciate donations to help with funeral expenses.
Agnes Fletcher
Agnes Fletcher, 86, of Union City died Oct. 1, 2003, at Washington Hospital in Fremont, due to heart complications and Alzheimers.
She was born Dec. 30, 1916. to Bert and Mattie Grinage in Concordia, Kansas. She came to California in the 1940s and settled in King City. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, Eugene, of El Reno, Okla.; daughter Nanci of Salinas; grandson Frank Leuck of Eugene, Oregon; sister, Kathryn Sebree of Hebron, Neb.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a dear family friend who Agnes called her second daughter, Edith Tarr.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Lee, in May 1980, a sister and a brother.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at First Methodist Church in Morgan Hill. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Candelaria Serros
Candelaria Serros died Oct. 11, 2003, in Gilroy at age 97. She was a resident of San Martin.
She migrated from Mexico to Kern County in 1920. In her late 20s, she married Seberiano Serros in Fresno. In 1930 they moved with their family to Mendota and to Santa Clara County in 1940. She has lived in San Martin since 1960. The family had a Produce Stand at the Berryessa Flea Market from 1962 to 1975. They retired and continued with foster-parenting until the late 1980s. She loved to crochet, garden and care for her pets.
She is survived by her children Helen (David) Cruz, Robert (Eudelia) Serros, Dolores (Ed) Lewis, Ruben (Gloria) Serros, Salvador Serros and Timothy Serros; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Seberiano Serros; a granddaughter, Jenifer Martine-Lohr; and great grandchildren, Bryan and Kevin Lohr.
Visitation was Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was Thursday at St. Catherine Church.
Esther M. Krupczak
Esther M. Krupczak died Oct. 14, 2003, in Gilroy
Esther was born in Mason, Texas. She was 66 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Krupczak.
She is survived by her childrenDarlene Friend of Hollister, George Krupczak Jr. of Gilroy, Tina Barcelone of Gilroy and Scott Krupczak and Mark Krupczak, both of Morgan Hill. She is the grandmother of David Anthony Krupczak, of Morgan Hill, and Jennifer Barcelone, of Gilroy. Mrs. Krupczak is also survived by her brothers Billie and Jimmie Baker, both of Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were under direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.
