Arthur Patrick Hunt

Arthur Patrick Hunt, 80, died Monday at Pacific Hills Manor, Morgan Hill, after short illness.

He was born and raised in Bakersfield. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He served at the same time with his six brothers, receiving the Purple Heart and a citation from the president for having all brothers in the service at the same time. He served six years overseas before returning home to Bakersfield. He moved to Morgan Hill in the 1950s and has been a resident ever since. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Gilroy. He was a reserved police officer for the Morgan Hill Police Department and head mechanic for Aristocrat Trailer of Morgan Hill in the 1960s and 1970s. He worked as a master mechanic for GTE for many years unit his retirement in 1988.

He was the loving husband of 58 years to Gladys Hunt of Morgan Hill; father of Arthur Percy Hunt of Morgan Hill and George W. Hunt and his wife Caroline Morales of Hollister; grandfather of Scott Michael Hunt and his wife Christy of Morgan Hill and Shyliene Marie Hunt of Gilroy.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and six sisters.

Graveside service will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery under direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.

Janice N. Shivers

Janice N. Shivers died Oct. 19, 2003, in West Jordan, Utah.

Born June 6, 1916, in Salt Lake City, Utah, she was the daughter of Carl and Inez Knowlton Nelson. She married Robert Elvin Shivers on Sept. 19, 1946, in Salt Lake City.

Janice was very close to all her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

She is survived by daughters Carole M. Watson of West Jordan and Stephanie E. Shivers of Salt Lake City; son R. Dennis Shivers of Gilroy; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother Richard K. (Noreen) Nelson, Salt Lake City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and son, William E. McHenry.

Friends and family may call Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal West Jordan Mortuary, 1861 W. 7800 South, West Jordan, Utah. Interment will take place in San Jose.

Patricia Francis Boegel

Patricia Frances Gardenhire Boegel died Oct. 17, 2003, due to complications from a battle with pulmonary hypertension.

She died peacefully surrounded by close family.

Pat was born in Stockton on Aug. 22, 1943, the third of three daughters to Lillian and Vernon Gardenhire. In 1948, the family moved to Crete, Neb., where they lived for nine years. In 1957, the family relocated to Oakland, where she attended Bishop O'Dowd High School and Holy Names College. Pat held a bachelor's degree in political science, a California teaching credential and a master's degree in Education. She began her long teaching career in 1969 at St. Clement School in Hayward. Her career in education included teaching at St. Clement, Our Lady of the Rosary in Union City, St. Barnabas in Alameda, St. John in San Lorenzo, St. Felicitas in San Leandro and finally, at St. Catherine in Morgan Hill.

On Oct. 9, 1976, she married Kenneth Francis Boegel at Our Lady of the Rosary. They lived in Union City had two sons.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, who lives in Union City with their two sons, Nathan and Jeremy. Kenneth is the principal at St. Matthew Elementary School in San Mateo. She also is survived by her mother, Lillian, of Union City and sisters Sandra Erle and Sister Judith Lynn, DC. In addition, she is survived by many relatives and friends who loved and cared for her deeply, especially in these last few months.

She is preceded in death by her father, her mother-in-law (July 2003) and many other relatives who loved her.

She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine Church at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22,

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to be made to the Patricia Boegel Scholarship Fund at St. Catherine School. Donations can be made payable to: St. Catherine Catholic School, 17500 Peak Ave., Morgan Hill, CA 95037.

Albert E. Chipman

Albert E. Chipman, 80, of Morgan Hill, died Nov. 21, 2002, at his home.

Albert served in the U.S. Navy for 32 years. He was aboard the USS Sicard when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Among many of his medals are the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Polly, of Morgan Hill; children Sandra Randall of Vacaville and Terry Sherwood of Pioneer; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; stepchildren Sandy Kloster of San Jose, Linda Starek of San Diego and Ted Kloster of Gilroy; four stepgranddaughters; and two stepgreat-grandsons.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Nov. 25.

Interment was at San Joaquin National Cemetery, Gustine.

Arrangements were under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home.

Juanita Martinez

Juanita Martinez, a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003.

Juanita was born Dec. 14, 1922, in La Flora County, Okla. She was 13 when her family moved to Morgan Hill. It was here that she met and married, on May 23, 1946, rancher Joseph Martinez, her husband of 53 years. Juanita stayed busy working with Joseph in the Martinez Brothers Plastering business, and because of her great love for people worked as a nursing aide for the Morgan Hill Rest Home.

The loving mother of two daughters and one son, she is survived by Jackie D’anna-Burt of Sacramento and Thomas Martinez, wife Dana, of San Jose.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister Minnie Hastings; and several nieces and nephews.

Characteristic of her abiding concern for others, Juanita always made time for her family and for others. She was loved by all and known by everyone as “granny.” Juanita's love for people is a reflection of her great love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, known today as Shadow Mountain Baptist Church and remained an active and supportive member throughout her lifetime.

Services were Thursday, Oct. 9, at Shadow Mountain Baptist Church. Interment, under the direction of  Johnson Funeral Home, was at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Emma Juliann Snyder

Emma Juliann Snyder born July 14, 2003, died Oct. 25, at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital.

She was the daughter of Scott and Dawna Snyder; sister of Jenna, Jacob and Joshua; granddaughter of Mel and Kathy  White of Salinas and Gary and Lynette Snyder of Thousand Oaks.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1790 E. Dunne Ave.

Arrangements were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.
