Eleanor Frances Evans
Eleanor Frances Evans died December 6, 2002, in Morgan Hill. She was 88.
She was a member of St. Catherine Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jeff of Gilroy; daughter Kathleen Parker; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur James Evans; her daughter Patricia Hall; and a grandson John Patrick Hall.
A Memorial Mass will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at St. Catherine Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the St. Catherine Parish Building Fund.
Jack Donald Miner
Jack Donald Miner died Dec. 6 in Oakland. He was 80.
A former resident of San Martin, Jack was in the Merchant Marines for more than 45 years. He was a very charitable person, giving to many causes.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Miner of Oakland; sisters Martha Kwoyers of Grass Valley and Patricia Ramberg of Ohio; children Kathy Anderson of Fremont, Marjorie Mead of Castro Valley, Bruce Miner of El Cerrito, Bryan Miner of Fremont; stepson Dave Bendahan of Sacramento; five granchildren; and one great-granchchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at Johnson Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Gavilan Hills Cemetery, Gilroy.
Frederick I. Anderson
Capt. Frederick Irving Anderson (USAF) died Dec. 4, 2003 surrounded by his family in Morgan Hill. He was 83.
Anderson was born Jan. 23, 1920, to John Victor and Adeline (Finn) Anderson in Sterling, Colo. He was the loving grandson of William Finn, a veteran of the Civil War and co-founder of Wichita, Kansas.
Anderson attended Texas A&M where he majored in aeronautical and electrical engineering. He married the love of his life, Florence Kuhn, in Salt Lake City on Feb. 27, 1943. He valiantly served his country during World War II and the Cold War where he flew and navigated B-17s, B-25s, B-29s and B-47s. After numerous assignments and transfers he began his aeronautical and electrical design career with Boeing and later Lockheed Aircraft where he was assisted in the design of the B-52 Bomber and the C-130 cargo plane. Later he transferred to Lockheed Missles and Space as a nuclear and reliability engineer in which he was involved in the safety design of Polaris submarine nuclear power systems. As well, he contributed to the design of various submarine firing missiles.
While carrying out his military duties and professional career he was also the loving and supportive father of eight children which included one set of twins and triplets. Family and friends all looked forward to his wonderful meals that included large picnic outings. During any free time, he enjoyed reading, collecting stamps and his beloved clocks.
His example of kindness, devotion and love to his family and friends will live in our hearts and lives forever.
Anderson is survived byhis wife, Florence Kuhn Anderson; sons John (Donna) Anderson, Hazen (Dana) Anderson, Richard ( Angie) Anderson, Robert Anderson; daughters Frances (Pat) Merricone, Julie (Mike) Rauschnot, Mary (Hal) Cooksey, Georgia (Louis) Chadwick; and grandchildren Tracy Diaz, James Anderson, Ben Chadwick, Natalie Chadwick, Juliana Preece, Matthew Chadwick, Daniel Chadwick, Ryan Anderson,Christina Anderson,Michael Rauschnot,Kaitlyn Rauschnot, Marc Rauschnot, Hillary Anderson, Kyle Anderson, Nicole Cooksey, Jackie Cooksey, and Scott Cooksey; and Arthur Finn
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today, Dec. 9, at Johnson Funeral Home. Services will begin 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec.13, at Larkin Funeral Chapel in Salt Lake City, Utah. Internment will follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
Matilda ‘Tillie’ Agler
Matilda “Tillie” Agler, 85, died at her San Martin home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Agler was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. She moved to the South Valley at the age of 2. She was a Gilroy High School graduate. She married her husband June 7, 1941, and worked as the community services director at Gavilan College from 1960s through the 1970s. She was a member of the Wheeler Hospital Auxiliary and the sewing group of both Wheeler and South Valley hospitals, and chartered other clubs of the area. She also was a member of Women in Touch and of the San Martin Presbyterian Church.
She was the loving wife of Bill Agler of San Martin; loving mother of Jo Ann Agler Ayres of Concord and Bill Agler of Boise, Idaho; grandmother of Ellen Agler, David Agler and Matthew Ayres; daughter of the late Gustav and Lillian Brodersen; sister of Iver Brodersen of Fullerton and the late Marvin Brodersen.
Private family services will be held under direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.
James E. Terry
James E. Terry, 82, Hill, died Dec. 5, 2003, in Salinas,
Formerly of Morgan Hill, Terry had lived in Boise, Idaho, the last three years. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Morgan Hill, a veteran of World War II, and retired from Ford Motor Co. as a metal finisher when the plant closed.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Morgan Hill; children Jim “Buddy” Terry of San Martin, Sue Hebison of Boise, Bill Terry of Pleasanton and Rick Terry of Morgan Hill.
He was preceded in death by his son John Terry.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Alden Wagganer Funeral Chapel in Boise.
Local arrangements were by Habing Family Funeral Home.
Arley Wendell Heinze
Arley Wendell Heinze of Morgan Hill died Dec. 12, 2003. He was born Feb. 11, 1914.
Heinze earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in science education at San Jose State University. He taught science, agriculture, chemistry and physics in secondary schools for 40 years.
He earned the American Farmer Degree in F.F.A. while in high school. He was elected state president of F.F.A. in Wisconsin. He was also elected state president in California for the Agriculture Teacher Association. He was awarded the California Agriculture Star Teacher award in 1961. He was a member in Portage, Wisc., of DeMolay. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II
He was a life member of the American Legion, DAV life member, salutatorian of his high school graduating class and earned freshman honors at the University of Wisconsin. He was a member of the Gilroy Chapter-Sirs, Gilroy Elks Lodge, member and organizer of the Clean City Boasters of Morgan Hill; member of the Chapter of Golden State Mobilehome Owners League.
He was a member, helped organize and was first president of Live Oak High School Agriculture Advisory Board and member, organize and first president of Live Oak High School’s Agriculture Boosters. He also was an organizer and developer of the Live Oak Agriculture Farm Laboratory.
He served as membership chairman and treasurer of Windmill Residents Association and was an elder and past treasurer of Morgan Hill Presbyterian Church. He was an organizer and membership chairman of Caught Again, a watchdog group of Morgan Hill city government.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Marlaise Heinze son Ed Heinze; daughter Ruthie Galvan; brother Louis Heinze; sister Kathryn Argabrite, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In March of this year Marlaise and Arley celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary.
He was preceded in death in 1978 by Ruth Heinze, his wife for 42 years; and daughter Becky, who died in 1979.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the Presbyterian Church 16970 De Witt Ave.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Presbyterian Church or to a favorite charity.
